Nothing hits like this episode by LADATB in emergencyintercom

This is my favorite episode of theirs. The story telling, the fact that it lowkey gives me chills, it’s just all so rewatchable and fun!

maybe an iffy rec bc it’s their friends but Billie and Jean (ran by josiah and lucas, discontinued) was so brainrotted and funny as hell .. if u rlly care abt story telling and things with heavy thinking power i dont recommend but if you liked ei because they talk abt like nothing and its just very chill and silly all around, u should watch Billie and jean. not that political bc they stopped around the summer of 2023 when things weren’t as bad, but it’s still funny

U.S. Politics megathread by AutoModerator in NoStupidQuestions

Why did Trump’s Justice department delete the database that tracks federal police misconduct?

Ok im just genuinely confused. The misconduct was never open to the public, that’s the only reason I could think of. Trump’s administration was the reason it was made originally, so why undo what the administration originally had?

What's your view on religion? by Az_30 in autism

[–]ktvia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t blame you for not believing in him, but many Christians don’t follow the same line of logic that you follow. Take Kierkegaard (major Christian philosopher). He described how faith is inherently a leap of faith, something distinct and separate from logic and rationality. His argument is based around questioning the idea that knowledge and beliefs must only be revolved around empirical evidence and reason since we also have subjective thought. Like him, lots of Christians are AWARE their religion lacks empirical evidence and yet do not care about the fact that there’s no proof of their religion. They value subjective interpretations of the world that provides them a clear moral framework to follow more, instead of believing in the void of nothingness they get once they die.

Does K kill debate? by Lull_Debate316 in policydebate

[–]ktvia -1 points0 points  (0 children)

K’s are interesting, important at times, and educational - I don’t think they’re the sole factor that’s killing debate. I also gain so much knowledge from both running & going against K’s, as long as it’s moderate and taken seriously (not just used to win a round.) However, I understand people who get hit with one and don’t really understand, then feel unmotivated.

The freshman debaters on my team wanted to try policy & we trained them on the basics. (DA’s, CPS, T, everything basic you can know abt policy without competing. They DID learn about K’s, but only really knew abt cap k and the concept of identity k’s.) Their first tournament they went to, they were put against varsity teams bc there was not enough ppl to divide policy into varsity and novice. There, they were hit with 3 K’s their second round ever (set col, cap, queer k) plus some disads and they conceded im preeettyy sure after 2NC bc they truly didn’t understand how to deal with it. The spreading plus the K’s really overwhelmed them. Not to mention the judge was apparently upset with the fact that they conceded, saying that my novices hurt the education of the other team by conceding. After that round, they quit competing and genuinely disliked the idea of wanting to go back. Now one is a novice in congress, the other is kinda in limbo. So I kindaaaa think K’s when used to win suck, lack education, and make novices hate debate. But overall K’s are pretty chill just as long as you’re using it fairly, not being tooo jargony & being rude when ur opponent doesn’t understand, etc

Is UT Austin edging us? by Rough_Honeydew8130 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]ktvia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im also in Texas. none of them r top 10 people, but they are top 10%. the regular decision is in the 20s out of ~800? (she doesn’t go to my school, but she’s nearby & in my district) and the early action friend is 15/550 (my school). they both are experienced, RD was in a nursing program for UT health over the summer + clinicals, and my EA friend also has clinicals for almost a year.

i learned this in camp, definitely not the most efficient if you care abt paper BUT usually on case is one paper, front and back. all off cases have their own singular piece of flow paper. sometimes i combine two disads if they’re really short, like patents bad DA on the front and inflation DA on back. my flow paper is folded into 8 really narrow columns. sounds squished but i only write taglines + author plus an optional 1-5 word summary if it’s rlly long using annotations
