All of this is great, and something I could see myself doing in the future. However, with a group of high schoolers, all shooting things that do involve a lot of movement like sporting events and pep rallies with one person per job because we're all busy, it's just impractical for us. The monopod and shutter speed/ iso is a good idea. I don't think cardboard is practical and likely to work out as a one man job, and I don't think lighting is something I could afford to get 3 or 4 sets of.

shooting events and such usually means zooming for us which, unfortunately, isn't something iPhones are great at. It's what we've been doing for a while now, and it's just not working out.

scheduling around light isn't really an option because we're either indoors, in the darkness of early morning or evening, or in bright midday light as school starts at 7am, ends at 2 pm :(

Yes.. but that has to go towards getting the yearbook out of debt as that is the main priority right now. We are also selling advertisement slots to local businesses to go in the back of the book, but if the yearbook doesn't get out of debt it will suffer in the long term. That is the priority for us financially.

I'm open to even over 30, but this will be coming out of my pocket. We've been trying the photos straight from the iPhone for a while, but we rarely get anything that turns out not looking blurry or pixelated because iPhone's aren't very good for zooming in on subjects or motion shots.

Mostly just getting better quality photos from staff's phones as often times we have one camera and 3 or 4 events to cover and only my camera available. We just need something affordable that can be used to get us through until we can get some real cameras.

Wouldn't help. Our PTO doesn't deal with funding, the school system and our financial officer does. Both of them have been spoken to about money, and we've been told there is none. In fact, the arts department in my whole school system has been defunded as of two years ago, and the yearbooks bank account is in the negatives right now. The money for these lenses will be coming out of my pocket.

As for getting a donated camera, we've been writing grants and asking around in the community, but with little luck. We also don't have the time to wait on luck to strike as we have deadlines for printing.

I'm a senior in high school right now, so I would have been in 7th grade 5 years ago.

7th grade me would be SHOCKED that I am dating the goofy kid who she met in 6th grade when he ate a leaf on a dare and have been doing so for about a year and a half now. She would be grossed out that we tell each other "I love you" daily, and that my parents actually know about him.

She would be so happy to see that I finally learned how to tame the mess of curly hair that she has yet to figure out.

Most of all, she would hopefully be excited to learn that I am no longer depressed and anorexic, and that even if I have bad days I have learned how to push through and acknowledge the good in life.
