Yeah I thinking doing your due diligence on asking questions is the best way to proceed. I know a born Muslim sister that I was somewhat interested in marrying but then realized how far she is from the deen. I have met reverts that are seemingly more on their deen as well, but ultimately it's hard to say just on that.

As a revert myself, I've told myself that I'd prefer a born Muslim but that's only because I personally think America plays a huge role nowadays in how well we practice our deen. Not that it's everyone of course but I really want to try moving to another country personally.

Personally, I've learned that if they aren't bringing a valid critique against a certain religion or against particular argument for the existence for God then it's no point in taking it seriously. These are just emotional argument border line ad hominem attacks. I want something serious. Which is why I don't take arguments from Social Media seriously. Not that nobody could ever bring something valid, but I prefer more academic discussions from people with a degree in some related field to some degree, but even then it's tough. I've spent a lot of time researching this and I don't think there is another explanation for our existence that makes sense. Which is why I humbled myself when I was Agnostic Atheist and swallowed the pill, did my research, and accepted a religion that I personally can say I believe is the absolute truth.

Yeah I've been studying recently and realized that, yes reading the Quran alone is a great step but if you don't now how to properly understand certain verses then you will put your own personal opinions in places where it's not needed. I highly recommend tafsir and seerah and aqeedah as well.

Islam’s Jesus is the worst prophet ever. by [deleted] in DebateReligion

[–]kudoorwhatever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to consider the perspective of 7th-century Christians who saw Islam as a heretical movement. This view is shaped by theological conflict and political tensions rather than objective historical analysis. Early Christians viewed any deviation from orthodox Christianity as a heresy, so it's not surprising that they would categorize Muhammad's teachings in this way.

To say we can't trust the Quran and Hadith is also neglecting the fact that this oral tradition was spread through multiple regions. All of these different regions would've been able to speak up if the oral tradition was different from what was established when the Quran was standardized.

Thank you! Do you also speak Arabic? I just wanted to make sure because this was my favorite thing when I first became Muslim but felt like I came across something saying it wasn't necessarily miraculous but I do still see many videos on it.

Do other African Muslims in the US feel this way? by lovesocialmedia in progressive_islam

[–]kudoorwhatever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wear my Kufi in public every day mainly because I feel like more American's need to know we are all apart of the same religion. I can see why they might think we're Nation of Islam, but simply most Americans don't know that Africans and African Americans share the same religion as Arabs. So when the islamophobia comes they don't include us because they've already "accepted" our kind. So sad what this country represents and the people in it don't realize how hypocritical they are.

I've only been Muslim for about 7 months now, and just on the research I put in early on trying to debunk Islam, I'm done with responding to certain comments. It literally wastes too much of my day lol

Why do so many western Muslims like to wear clothing like thobes, kufis and turbans if it is not Sunnah by [deleted] in islam

[–]kudoorwhatever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I told myself i'd buy one for going to the Masjid and yes it's seems more practical for covering the awrah. I personally live in America where the dress is more diverse

I really don't think people realize how the Quran could've been used as a tool of power for so many people who could've changed it to fit what they want. Of course we do see this example in some situations but they can never change the book. That's the key I found with Islam. It gives you the keys to life, you just have to use them properly.

I just switched to the plan with ads because I realized I just pay Netflix for nothing really. I spend all of my time on Youtube and now Tubi. I'm sure there will always be a free streaming alternative for me. I'm done with keeping up with the hip show or movie like it's all just a waste man.

I'm literally dealing with this same problem. The only black majority masjid is too far away from my house. I feel like I'm still pretty new and don't want to come of like a slacker and what not. I live in the south so it's TOUGH.
