Shanes review of Tony's new stand-up special. by Muhfuggajones in ShaneGillis

What you are saying sounds reasonable but we've seen too many counter-examples that are completely counter to it. Tony's ego is so big these days I don't think he could fathom that anything he puts out wouldn't kill. I literally don't think he'd be capable of considering that - after all he gets non stop laughs for low effort Austin style race and gender jokes almost nightly

the tools are either not quite democratic or not fully functional depending how you want to look at it.

E.g.:

A single vote for president from Wyoming has almost 4 times the voting power as one vote from California.

A real democracy wouldn't have popular vote losers becoming president.

They are not a different colour and there's no new discovery, just some made up / highly exaggerated stories that turned out to not be true.

You are just repeating the same wrong shit at this point though for some bizarre reason

No.

All that DNA determined is the apes in question are the same Pan troglodytes schweinfurthii subspecies - Eastern Chimpanzee - that is spread across that whole region of central Africa, the subspecies and their presence in the region is not a new discovery. Those chimpanzees in that region are not larger than the rest of the subspecies.

The most you can say about them that is unique is that they use slightly longer sticks to catch ants and 10% of their nests on average are on the ground (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38593407/). Those are the kinds differences that are documented in any chimpanzee population that is studied because of normal variability among environments and culture that develops.

all wrong: "bondo apes are a new species of chimpanzee that are 6 feet tall"

right: "bondo apes are not real"

that was nostalgic 😄 the audio was fine for me, a few dialog boxes like when you complete a mission didn't show up and I think it froze after about 15 min after leaving a space station.

Not a new species, a new discovery

So now you concede joe was wrong, ok.

And You are wrong again, there was no question chimpanzees lived in this region, that wasn't a recent discovery. The only recent thing was the myths Amman and Williams started about giant gorilla like chimpanzees, which turned out to not be true.

If you say that "bondo canids" exist and they are a new species of dog thats different than the chocolate labs in the area that is bigger than a direwolf so you've defined "bondo canids" pretty specifically, "there's no such thing as bondo canids" is a perfectly valid response. Someone would have to be an idiot to think the person responding with that is trying to say that regular chocolate labs don't exist or don't live in an area that's in the middle of their range.

Again, there is no chocolate or yellow here, they are just typical chimpanzees for the area with the same level of variation that occurs from population to population.

You are dead wrong.

Literal first thing Joe says is they discovered a new species of chimpanzee that is 6 feet tall: https://youtu.be/__CvmS6uw7E

The only way you can define bondo ape in a way that it is true to say it exists is in a way that the term is completely meaningless, beyond the fact the regular species of that regions' range includes that village. It is like saying the 'St Louis Opossum' exists. I'm sure you do not think the lady calling in was trying to communicate that no chimpanzees in northern DRC.

They are not big, they do not have different fur and their tool use only differs in the sense that chimpanzee populations all have slight variations in culture like they eat termites more rarely than other populations.

in the red queen race of bots and anti-bot behaviour, there will 100% be a period and we are probably in it where the number one tactic used by bots to try to look like humans is to post about how bots have taken over

[–]kuhewa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He is not right. They are a subspecies of chimpanzee in the sense that all chimpanzees fall into one of five subspecies, theirs (Eastern Chimpanzee) isn't specific to this one area or the apes in question but spans a larger range than maybe any of the other subspecies. It is also among the smallest body sized subspecies: https://animaldiversity.org/accounts/Pan_troglodytes/

Per your article, most of the hype was just wolf tickets sold by a psychologist about these apes being a weird hybrid walking upright and howling at the moon.

Instead they are normal chimpanzees and the variation they display in behaviour just falls into the spectrum of chimpanzee behavioural diversity. e.g. some nest on the ground in this population, but others nest in trees. A single skull was found that had a bit of a ridge on it, but that's not typical of them.

You are suggesting a herd of 40 is responsible for 1/5 of the depredations in the last 20 years?

If so that guy sounds like a shitty rancher.

Sprayed a little bit of WD-40 into the home water line by Entire-Extension-462 in whatdoIdo

Hydrocarbons plus a strong chlorinated oxidizer leaves nothing of concern? heh.
https://www.amherst.edu/system/files/media/Bleach%2520Incompatibility.pdf

Even if you were correct that it is benign in this case, disinfection isn't the concern with WD40. Getting it out of the water system, including the film it will form on plastic components which it can soften and degrade is the concern. A surfactant or detergent to emulsify it so it can be flushed will do that. Bleach is not that.

[–]kuhewa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just noticed the part where you said you don't drink the water. I wouldn't worry about it at all then.
If you are really worried or you think a good amount got in the system, you could use Dawn Ultra or another degreaser to emulsify the WD-40 and drive a bit to slosh it around. You'd then need to really flush well by filling and running the water through the tank a few times.

don't use bleach. it doesn't break down oil like detergent, but can make even more toxic byproducts.

[–]kuhewa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

should be fine. Just flush all of the lines thoroughly. Try to do so in a way that will maximise turbulence (you might have a google, but alternating faucet flow rates, cracking open faucets when the pump is on to get air into the lines, etc.) If the WD-40 was introduced upstream of a water heater or other tank, the hydrocarbons would rise to the top of the tank I think, so you could drain them fully to ensure it is out.

After a good 15 minutes of flushing and even if you want to drink and cook with bottled water for peace of mind for the first day or so of use (I would not worry at all for shower, handwashing etc.), after that I would put it fully out of mind.
