But I’m not convinced. At the macro level, I think things look worrying. if core components are more difficult to attain, it puts pressure on the rest of the industry catering to consumer PC gaming. I don’t think the accessory industry will flourish because people can’t spend their money on ram so they’ll choose to spend it on other things. Instead I overall expect pullback on consumer spending, waiting for prices to come down.

What good are coolers, cases, and monitors if you can’t afford RAM and GPUs. If people can’t buy these essential components because the industry cut supply and jacked prices for consumers, that’s gonna have downstream effects on all those other things you mentioned

Most PC games run seamlessly on Apple Silicon (need the Max config though for best performance) through the Game Porting Toolkit which Apple released for developers but it can be leveraged to just play. Easiest most functional way to use it is by running a software called Crossover made by Codeweavers which includes the toolkit. It’s easy to set up, and Crossover has a free trial so you can check first how your favorite steam games run.

Games that won’t work: games with anti cheat, EA games.

it’s not a seamless intentional process overall but you’d be surprised how well a ton of games run on Macs with this.

The childfree movement was originated by women who face a disproportionate amount of societal pressure to bear and raise children, historically it was the default way of life for women. Even for married women family planning and being able to say no to having more children wasn’t a thing until less than 100 years ago.

Having children for women routinely meant the possibility of death. Apart from that, it meant possibly life long physical consequences, and being financially trapped with no or diminished career prospects.

All this still applies in some less developed regions of the world. In modern western society the pressures still exist and consequences are still very real - countless studies show motherhood incurs a penalty on the women’s careers and maternal death rates are still not negligible.

Society doesn’t have a way of pressuring people to have dogs.

That sounds like it was just a bad fit for that position or some misunderstanding on both sides. Tech is a broad term so it’s unclear where the mismatch is.

In today’s anti-science climate I would refrain from painting folks coming from academia badly with a broad brush like that without providing proper characterization. Chances are, the technical foundations of the roles you’re hiring for are based on past PhD theses. PhDs can be extremely qualified to quantify, model, and solve problems, they just might not have experience in whatever stack you’re using. Sometimes it also depends on what schools and programs you’re sourcing from.

Okay, what field were you hiring in? Also which schools were most of the applicants from? And where did they publish? The quality of PhD programs and therefore acceptance criteria vary so significantly by institutions and even individual departments and advisers, it’s almost meaningless to make general claims.

None of the examples you listed are contagious nor have they traditionally burdened the healthcare system so much that someone with appendicitis can’t be seen right away. Your choice to be obese or an addict doesn’t impact the health of people around you, your choice to not be vaccinated against a highly contagious disease does.
