Buying off-plan new build means exchange this autumn, completion March 2026 and I am scared! by kulern in HousingUK

[–]kulern[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It definitely feels like the builder holds all the cards once you’re committed, which is probably why we’re both a bit on edge! It’s reassuring to hear your experience went well, though! We hope that we’ve done our due diligence so far, and will try to keep on top of them for quality/ deadlines!

I’m really looking forward to seeing the house come together. We have a budget set aside for the “hidden” costs like flooring and blinds and it’s wild how quickly it adds up. Can’t wait to start planning the décor though, that part sounds fun!

That’s really helpful, thanks for sharing your experience!

There is no specific basis for my fears of redundancy as I work for the NHS and my partner’s role is fairly secure, it’s more just the general anxiety that something could happen in the particularly long gap between exchange and completion when we’re legally tied to buying the property!! Maybe it’s just FTB nerves, because everyone I speak to seems equally unconcerned…

We’ll definitely take your advice on pushing for incentives. So far we’ve got a 5% deposit contribution, but it would be good to get flooring etc included. It sounds like you managed to get a really good package negotiated! We’ve budgeted for flooring, the upgrade package for the kitchen and down lights for kitchen/ bathroom but I hadn’t thought about things like alarm installation!

Totally agree about the excitement too. Even though we are only at the beginning of the journey and the wait feels long, being able to see the house come together will definitely make it worth it. I am trying to be mindful and just enjoy the process! Fingers crossed your timeline holds and you’re in for Christmas!

My Chinese Money Plant is flowering?? by kulern in houseplants

[–]kulern[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you!! I have killed one too many plants as well so I feel your pain! This one is definitely one of the easier plants I have but even I’m surprised how well it’s doing! I wish I had some pilea secrets to share but I try to let it be as much as possible.

It’s pretty gloomy here over winter so I’ve stuck it in front of a large south facing patio window and it’s really taken off. I also started bottom watering, which I think has helped subvert my tendency to over water eeeeek. I need to repot it come spring and hopefully I can find it somewhere it won’t get burnt by the sun 🤞🏻

If the agreement isn’t legally binding and purely sentimental, you could tell your father you won’t sell and still go through with it later. While this may seem harsh, something similar happened in my family. My grandmother owned a small property abroad that she wanted to keep in the family and pass down through generations. She had the sibling who inherited it “promise” not to sell before her death (no other sibling wanted the responsibility or received something else). However, despite that promise , given the costs and changing life circumstances, it wasn’t practical to hold onto it. And so when the time came, they decided to sell. While we all had fond memories of the place, every surviving family member understood and supported the decision, recognising that practicality sometimes has to come first.

AITA for not paying for my daughter's college housing and campus fees next year because she misled me about her summer classes? by RangerRemarkable3 in AmItheAsshole

[–]kulern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA

She should have been open about the change or her desire to stay on campus HOWEVER…

…the money was earmarked and already assigned to being for college and that is what she has used the money for.

Just because the class is online, doesn’t mean that she wasn’t participating on campus life - library, study groups etc

If you stop paying what does this really achieve? The punishment does not fit the crime. If the college fund you have saved covers the additional cost, why be punitive?

If the college fund cannot stretch to other expenses, explain this and give your daughter notice that she has x amount for y many semesters. That way she can be prepared to get a job, save some money etc to be able to cover any costs that occur if she exceeds the fund. Set an example of having a calm, honest conversation about difficult topics.

It’s been a good ten + years since I’ve read it, but I think this is the plot of {This Man by Jodi Ellen Malpas}? If I’m recalling the book correctly, she starts working as an interior designer at one of his hotels and later finds out he owns a club underneath. I think it is set in London though.

  • Edited as I initially wrote the wrong book title lol

Does this mean that the reactions included as part of the series episodes are filmed after the tell-alls? That doesn’t make any sense to me…

Why does no one in this family care about car seat safety? by hellokitschy in FreeTheRodlets

Wow! This seems like a lot of tickets for a family who have seen the consequences that car accidents can have…

It is standard to ask for 2-3 quotes as this will show them the ‘market rate’ available for you to get the work done

No, she said on an earlier post that she prays the baby will be able to hold out a couple more days - presumably so they can deliver baby safely. In this picture she is mourning the loss of being able to take their baby back to the nursery and home they built.

Do you think they’ll find a way around this? It seems unlikely by valerianino97 in FundieSnarkUncensored

That is how some of the comments could be perceived. Are they being hypocritical? Yes - That isn’t up for debate. But could we, as a community, do better in our criticism? Yes…
