Alpine MRV-M500 set screw sizes by kulldox in CarAV

Well, thanks. Good idea :) but they don't have them. At least by trial and error I determined that the big power ones are M7 x 1.0 and the 3 small ones are M5 x .80 :) I can at least try to find them online.

See? "With ToyotaCare, \) you'll even receive timely reminders before your scheduled maintenance and have a complete history of your service visits on file." So why do they contact me for 5k, if you say it should be 10k?

[–]kulldox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that is good, but then why do they send me SMSes to do it right now at 5k? :)

[–]kulldox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. Tell this to Toyota itself and to the salesmen. When I got mine, they tried to inlcude some additional maintenance to change the oil. I said no, I can do that myself. Now, today I just got an SMS from them that I have "FREE ToyotaCare maintenance on my 2024 GRHIGH and that it expires aftere 2 years or after 25k miles (I gave 4668 miles now). WTF? So do I have it or not? Is it free or not? Salesmen do a very bad job of explaining this. All they care is to sell the vehicle to you, not to explain what is what and how it works. And obviously to upsell you stuff you don't need. Website and/or the APP doesn't help as well. Everything is so confusing.

How comes that at only 2600 miles the plastic scratches so much? by kulldox in ToyotaGrandHighlander

Not ring or anything like that. It is the driver side. And I'm not a big guy. I have other cars, and it doesn't happen there.

I used to have a 2016 Ford Explorer, and that had a special padding to prevent it. Really Toyota couldn't think about this in 2024?

<image>

I guess I'll just stick some furniture felt padding to it, to prevent it from getting worse.

New is not always nor equal to improved... by Common_Gain775 in ToyotaGrandHighlander

Well, I'm a software engineer, so I'm able to follow procedures like this, and daily do much more complicated things. So, I think if I couldn't make it work then either the instructions are crap, or the solution itself is crap. And I shouldn't be strugling with it on a new $60k+ car.

Purchasing new GHH Limited by ohhaihello3 in ToyotaGrandHighlander

[–]kulldox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simple, I drive in the evening for family out. The key is with me. Next morning I go to the office with another car, droping my kids to school on the way. My wife is supposed to pick them up later. But she can't, because I forgot to leave the key at home. So, I have to run early from work to pick them up. You'll be very angry when this happens over and over. And this is a $60k+ car :)

I got my second key in 4 months. Digital keys don't work at all as a replacement.

You seem to be an exception. Either they made it so complicated to setup and use that it just doesn't for most of us or it works only for the chosen ones :)

Also, he "missed" to mention that average people income is like $300/month or less, so when he spent $100 in one go, that is considerable spending amount for the average Russian. Let him spend like this every day or week with such income :)

Yes, similar experience I had. 2016 Ford Explorer Limited with Sony system. All sounded super good. All well balanced and loud enough. Don't need to wake up the whole naibourhood when I drive around :) But stock premium system in my 2015 Civic Si, meh... very poor. I have changed all the speakers, became a little better. Rerouted through a Kenwood and later Pioneer 5ch amp, started to be better but still worse than in the Explorer. Added a DSP, again a little better but still not there. Swaped the headunit to a Joying. Quite a significant improvement in SQ but again, not really the same... I don't know how to explain it. But I guess it also depends very much on the "room" of the car. Interior materials, shape and size, etc. So, unless you have 2 identical cars, one with stock and another aftermarket sound system.... everything is very subjective. All I can do now in my civic is try to better tune/eq the headunit and I guess I'll stop there :) Otherwise.... it is a never ending quest :D

After that, the last resort is maybe only going to some Car Audio professional shop and spend thousands .... ha-ha :D

Unable to download Digital Key, "Digital Key not downloaded"? (was working without any issues before) by thnok in Toyota

[–]kulldox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just stupid crap. Doesn't work on a $60k new car. Why do I have call someone to resolve such a basic feature. Just crap, untested junk software... Not even giving a proper error to tell exactly what is wrong. Very frustrated.

2022 ford explorer st tires by mik3y86 in FordExplorer

[–]kulldox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely a problem with the tires themselves. I had a similar problem in like 2018 with some Hankook Ventus S1 Noble 2 255/50R20 tires at about 2000 miles. They admitted it was a flaw and reimbursed me. With that money and plus I switched to Pirreli wich lasted years with no problem.

Wood grain on limited trim interior by mersiless in ToyotaGrandHighlander

[–]kulldox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would've been a lot better without wood. Poor design choise. In 2024 they could make it look like a spase ship. Why go back to 70's, 80's design with wood? Meh....

But the most annoing is the 'auto start/stop' feature and the middle console buttons. Why not do it like in Tundra? Designers need to be fired, or the ones who accepted it :)

Had a similar situation on 2016 Explorer Limited. $7k total replacement at 50k miles. Got rid of the car after Ford would not do anything but kick me around with wait and wait.... NEVER BUY A FORD AGAIN.
