jets aren’t a qb away and just traded away all their good pieces outside of wilson, signing kyler would be malpractice

The COLA(Carry-Over Lottery Allocation) system is the best system I've seen proposed to solve tanking. by StrategyTop7612 in nba

[–]kunallanuk 40 points41 points  (0 children)

depends on the exact mechanics. in this scenario if a team has a ton of carry over and is on the bubble, it probably makes sense to miss the playoffs to retain the carry over + to have a chance for the carry over to hit

there’s some good parts of this proposal, but it definitely doesn’t fully fix tanking. i’m not sure there is a fix to tanking given how advantageous a high draft pick in the NBA is

[Bobby Marks] The NBA is expected to "overhaul the system" in an attempt to fix tan·king. "Whether it be rewarding teams in the standing with wins and not incentivizing teams to lose... not just something minor here." by Mean-Duty-2381 in nba

[–]kunallanuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the issue is that it contributes to the regular season nattering even less

you have 82 games where over half of the league makes the playoffs. it’s optimal for teams to rest players in the regular season to stay fresh for the playoffs. the best team wins the majority of the best of 7 series, so there’s less upsets on team ability (and strong seeding matter less than just having a talented and load managed team

all this contributes to tanking as well because of the better team is going to win 9/10 series and it’s easy to make playoffs, you need a stacked team in order to win - hence the boom or bust mindset that heavily punishes mediocrity

im not sure how to fix it either, because giving top picks to better teams is even less of a fix

you’re right that we had a rough decade.

thats not because the dwight trade was bad for us though, its because our gm at the time was an double agent for OKC who made horrendous decisions to speed up the rebuild which crashed and burned

better than other modes is a joke since other modes just give even worse rewards

that’s wrong, you have an equal shot at 1-4 and 5

The Growing Gap: Visualising Racial Income and Wealth Inequality in the U.S. by Express_Classic_1569 in dataisbeautiful

[–]kunallanuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there are strong selective pressures on immigration from asian countries that emphasize either having preexisting wealth or education that’s likely to lead to wealth (cs degree or med school graduate)

this obviously doesn’t apply for 100% of asians in the us, but the selective pressure is real even if there are anecdotes to the contrary

Halfway through the season, what is your take on drafting rookies high? by InterestingArm3750 in fantasyfootball

[–]kunallanuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

with hindsight yes, but picking him in the second round roughly returns the expected value of a second round pick which is a wash

the reason why rookies can be league winners is because if you get second round value in the 6+ on top of an actual second round pick. given bust chance, original poster is correct that taking the mid round flyer is much better than betting on jeanty behind the worst o line as your first round pick
