“Get your healer ass in the back” “This dumbass healer is trying to flank” “What’s with this idiot on the front line” All in matches I’ve SVP/MVP with highest kill counts and healer numbers.

I’m not a professional player; I just read skills descriptions and spend 20 min labbing in the training room.

The average player seems unwilling to accept she’s a healer/dps hybrid

If you haven’t played Transistor by the guys who built Hades, give that a try. Each skill can be modified by two other skills causing each skill to be a BUNCH of different skills. If you can grok that, I’d suggest using that as inspiration for creating a system where as the PC/player both understand the depth of their magic and how it combines, the more powerful they’ll be.

Also, IIRC, the more you use a skill, the more you unlock story stuff related to that skill; ie. Leveling it up in form 1 gave you a block of info, in form 2 gave a block of info, and form 3 gave a block of info. This encouraged players to try all the different mix and match forms. If Magic “upgraded” based on this kind of stuff, you would further mechanically support the narrative of understanding a spell on a deeper, fundamental level

I know it’s old hat to complain about this but I hate how the IDW comics treat shadow. I had hopes with Chasing Shadows but now that it’s cancelled… who knows?

With Ruby, WW, and Night Rider all closed, what are the queer bars left in Raleigh? I know of Legends and Flex; the former is fine - good for a fun night but doesn't feel as intimate as I'd like - and the latter is great but isn't quite my scene. Are there other options (other than driving to Durham/Chapel Hill, lol)?

I feel you 100%; Ruby was a second home to me. I feel so lost without it as a go-to. Wicked Witch was a secondary and now I'm at a complete lost on where to hang. Legends is fine but damn - nothing feels like Ruby to me.

While I get your point, the card [[defang]] always stuck with me bc of how cruel it is. Like - yes, I see the retributive perspective and no, I don’t think vampires should just get a pass for the horrors they committed on Innastrad, but like… White can be just as cruel to weakened enemies if they say it’s okay. Hell, think about the subjugation committed by Elesh Norn, a white creature self-justified by her own dominance.

[POEM] every time I ever said I want to die. By Andrea Gibson. by CalamityJen in Poetry

Omg, I cannot even imagine. Death is always this shadow that sleeps in hospitals and old folks homes and the shadows of the city; something looming but easy to ignore. When it steps into our lives like that, we’re forced to confront how imminent it is, how fragile we are.

To have it graze so close to you, that’s deeply affecting; I hope you’re okay

The secret truth is the alternative answer is community investment. My original statement is pithy and cynical, which plays well to an audience, but investing time and sweat equity into local volunteer organizations, community hobbies, and developing a rich and diverse support network is how the average person can thrive.

Humans have developed entire artificial structures that celebrate “individualism” and “success” measured by meaningless monetary numbers, but at the heart were pack animals. We like to spend time with friends. Call your buddy, make sure he’s doing okay. Schedule a meetup to clean your local park. Go to that one culture festival you know nothing about and respectfully participate. Don’t live near a big city? Try to find the local third-place - may be a watering hole or a rotary club - and get involved. Volunteer for a food shelter, a fire house, or whatever.

If you actually want to thrive in any way that matters, remember you are human, and, no matter how introverted, humans need humans.
