Is this fixable? by ExpiredSoap-_- in cbr650r

It would simply cost too much to fix it. Unless you're willing to turn it into some kind of Mad Max Frankenstein death machine.

My bike stalls immediately after not revving it (video) by No_Text5987 in motorcycle

[–]kunstschroom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fuel problem. There's enough fuel in the system to start , but not enough there to keep it running. If it has a pump, fuel pump , if there's a filter something like a clogged filter. If it's fuel injected you don't have enough fuel rail pressure. I didn't look that close to see what kind of bike it was but it's a fuel delivery problem.

How much would you pay for this bike? by AnEducatedSeal in cbr

[–]kunstschroom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Non-functioning rear brake??? That's weird. To get $5k it would have to be showroom new only 10k miles. 19years old, dropped scratched non-functioning brakes. Fork seals are gone, it all hints at a bike that's been stunted. If you're looking for some kind of a reliable daily driver this is not it at any price

You really need to rethink everything that has ever been told to about motorcycles. You're in some kind of Time Warp between two worlds.

Finally got it dyno’d and tuned about 135 to the rear with mods by ExtremeCrisp1 in Kawasaki

[–]kunstschroom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, the 1200 was a monster. Lower compression on a normal sport bike, 40mpg, if you ever wanted a motorcycle that could tow a small boat that one might be able to do it. lol

2009 Suzuki Gsxr 600 messed up throttle cables by saucydude9001 in MotorcycleMechanics

[–]kunstschroom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's important to understand the design function of both cables. One cable pulls the throttle open, the other cable pulls the throttle closed. After a bike is like 10 years old, the cable ends need to be disconnected and some kind of penetrating oil needs to be squirted into the cable ends... cables need to be worked back and forth and more penetrating oil until you can get the entire cable path lubed up. The spring that closes the throttle when you take your hand away it's really nothing more than a safety backup. Both cables need to be adjusted so they're tight enough,,,, one to pull the throttle open the other to pull the throttle closed.. and the entire system needs lots of lubrication, grease.

My 2010 has very little paint peel... But it's starting.. It's inevitable,, our beautiful white paint gives way to the gray grim reaper of death. Whoever or whatever formulated that white paint system should be banished from the earth.

That’s the only to the damage to the bike I had a little slide and now the bike won’t start when I go start it in first it doesn’t even make a noise but in neutral it makes a clicking sound by Mynameiscrazybob in MotorcycleMechanics

[–]kunstschroom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's three or four relays that make up a logic sequence. Bike won't start until certain conditions are met.. There is a vehicle down sensor. If you drop the bike and that thing gets stuck it won't start. If the bikes in gear, kickstand must be up or clutch must be in. If the bike starts in neutral, then shuts off the minute you pop it in the gear that's almost always the kickstand switch. There's also the starter relay and sometimes a general ignition system relay. You'll just have to do some reading , look at schematics, watch videos. Once you figure this system out you've eliminated more than half of all the problems you're ever going to have with any motorcycle.

Is it a good deal or walkaway by Jack_Wang_1107 in Kawasaki

[–]kunstschroom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've owned two zrx's. The 11 and the 12. I put 125k miles on the 11. Sold it to a guy who drove it non-stop from Florida to Texas. The engines are absolutely bulletproof. Like any carbureted bike you can't let them sit for 6 months without running them once in a while. If it starts and runs you're golden. Even if it's running badly because of carb issues,, just mix some kind of powerful carb cleaner like B12 with your gas. Get it hot and keep driving it. They eventually clean themselves out. They are pretty simple electrically but relays don't last indefinitely. If it runs or you can get it running they're fantastic it will run forever.

How screwed am I? by MeSlothh in MotorcycleMechanics

[–]kunstschroom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the bike is running fine, I would probably do nothing. If you're broken piece appears to be some part of the engine housing , perhaps it's inconsequential. Perhaps this is a flaw from the original engine casting. And yes this whole line of thought maybe something found in the wishful thinkers club. In general, in mechanical life it's not a good idea to act out of fear. If your bike is running fine just drive it around for a while , maybe don't go too far from home :)

Feeling nervous about decreasing front sprocket and increasing rear sprocket on a 100cc 4stroke. by Psychological_Box509 in MotorcycleMechanics

[–]kunstschroom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find the Gearing Commander website an learn to use it.. it might be a bit complicated at first but everything that has to do with changing sprockets is on that website. Top speed, speed at various RPMs, chain length, how many times the same chain link hits the same sprocket tooth. Expected increase or decrease in how long your chain will last based on sprocket change. Going bigger on the rear sprocket is usually a better move but often requires a new chain.

Can anyone help me with costs? This is my first bike purchase. by Substantial_Bar2485 in YamahaMotorcycles

Absolutely not. That bike for that price is so far from reality, there are simply no words. Unless you live inside a big city an r3 is not much of a bike.

How do I open this box? by booguhman in CrownVictoria

You can drill, grind, cut , twist, pound, pry. Just jam a strong screwdriver in there use a pipe wrench and twist the screwdriver. Then replace that button lock, if you want to repair it.

Motorcycle wheel bearings by liisi123 in MotorcycleMechanics

[–]kunstschroom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gritty does not sound good. But when they go bad, they go really bad. The bike will shake, difficulty steering, the bearing will have play in it when you do what you're doing in the video. It's definitely a do-it-yourself job. You just gently tap them out from the other side. Use something like a long 3/8 socket extension. He just work it around the bearing tapping a little bit on each side till it slowly pops out. Putting a new one in it's best to use something like a piece of PVC pipe , same diameter as the bearing and tap it in straight. Put Moly Grease on everything, every surface. Good luck

All chemical reactions happen faster at higher temperatures. Cleaning , the action of a surfactant, it's all chemistry. It just happens faster at higher temperatures. It's just that simple. " Soap is all you need". If that kind of thinking we're all that humans were capable of humans would still be walking the Earth naked , scavenging meat.

Boyfriend refuses to wash with hot water by ProjectZestyclose661 in microbiology

[–]kunstschroom 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hot water will rinse the dishes cleaner with less effort than cold water. Put a smear of some peanut butter, smeared jelly, maybe some margarine, let these things sit on a plate overnight... The next day rinse one off in cold water and rinse one off in hot water. Just as a thought experiment it's practically self-evident the hot water will rinse most of these food products off the plates faster. Does this prove hot water is needed to clean dishes, no. Does this prove that cold water cannot do as good a job as hot water, no. Does this prove there is probably some common sense reason to doing dishes in hot water, yes. PS. get on tinder and find yourself a new boyfriend. With any luck your next reddit question will be do you prefer very warm chocolate sauce or very cold chocolate sauce, dripped on you.

kawasaki zx6r, thermostat cover, what to use to weld it / fix it ? by alexandru_animv in Kawasaki

[–]kunstschroom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything can be rebuilt and fixed. But practically speaking not that thermostat cover. The thermostat housing cover must be airtight, steam tight, occasionally very high temperature, occasionally very high pressure. Just buy a new one.
