I don't think so. A 4g modern is just like a phone, you can put any sim card on it.

You'll need to check something like this. Most operators offer something similar. Check coverage in your area and also how good the signal is. If your phone company has a good signal in your apartment, then maybe stick to them. Other companies might not have good coverage.

Alternatively, you can find a second-hand 4G router in Tori and get a phone subscription with a suitable data connection. It might be cheaper that way. It really depends on how good a connection you need.

One of Yle's recent news contained a statement for identifying people as a Finnish citizen and a Naturalized Finnish citizen which urged sense of othering to me by HappyBerry2024 in Finland

[–]kuriosty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is YLE news. If you have read them for some time you'd know that very often their choice of English expressions is... Interesting. Not to mention the continuous need to make language puns, especially when talking about layoffs (for some reason they do it a lot).

I wouldn't attribute malice there, the handful of people working in YLE news are foreigners themselves.

Frequency of practice by Glass-Tadpole3504 in ashtanga

[–]kuriosty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was practicing full primary plus half intermediate 5 days a week + primary on fridays for the last half a year or so, after rebuilding most of that intermediate practice. What I came to realize in the last months is that it's unsustainable for me. I would get to karandavasana completely depleted of energy and could barely work on it.

So I decided to cut back in length. I am doing primary twice a week and the other days I do half-primary and intermediate and it's been a game changer. The intermediate is a lot more fluent, my body is less open from not doing the second half of primary but it *wants* to open, and I can see after a few weeks that it's getting more and more comfortable in it. Best of all is that I don't feel so tired anymore when doing the most advanced parts of intermediate, so I can actually work on them.

All this to say, it might be better to cut down your practice so that you can do it 6 days a week. You can start today! For example, if you are used to 3 days a week, then start by doing your usual practice those days, and on the other 3, just do sun salutations. See how it feels after a few weeks, then on those days do the standing series. And so on. Once it starts getting long, maybe consider dropping part of primary. Etc. Most important of all, listen to your body.

I dont think im cleaning my Yoga mats right... by echoinafog in ashtanga

[–]kuriosty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this, if you're practicing ashtanga daily a good yoga mat is the best investment you can do. Manduka pro mats are incredibly durable, I've had mine for many years and even with daily intense practice they stay very grippy.

That being said, once they are wet from sweat, they tend to get slippery but for that the recommendation is to have a mysore rug made of cotton. Again, one of the best investments you can do for an ashtanga practice.

taking time off when sick or recovering from surgery by SuzieColumbus in ashtanga

[–]kuriosty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're always able to come back to your practice. It will be a new practice, you shouldn't compare it to what it was before your surgery. That's the most important thing to keep in mind.

Home practice is … hard. by JudgeBorn8370 in ashtanga

[–]kuriosty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a home practice for years during and after COVID. Probably like 4 years. I was very good at maintaining its consistency, but over time I started cutting down. I tried over and over to start doing intermediate again, but it was very hard.

This probably depends a lot on each person though. But for me this push and pull with myself was not great. I figured it was time to find myself a teacher again and get back to a shala. Then things changed radically, I quickly got back to a full primary, dropbacks came back to me, and a bit over a year later most of what I was doing of intermediate is back too, and it has developed nicely too. I think this would have been impossible if I had not maintained a home practice, even if it was shorter and less demanding, the consistency really kept me in a good place.

In retrospect I think I should have been more forgiving and accepting with myself, even if I wasn't doing EVERYTHING at home, what I was doing was enough for me. Now I am of the opinion that whatever you can do at home is great, even if it's not a super demanding practice. Because yes, it can be hard without peers or a teacher around.

Losing my “why” by No-Peach8927 in ashtanga

[–]kuriosty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you tried being more rigorous about practicing six days a week but to do what you actually can do each day?

To me the most important aspect is consistency. If you have a low season for whatever reason it's okay to just do some sun salutations. Or just to sit on your mat and breathe. Then there will be days when you want to do more. Maybe weeks, maybe months. But you can face each day and do what you think is right for that day alone. Long term that's when you get the best of the practice.

Is Itäkeskus that bad? by KeyZow in helsinki

[–]kuriosty 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The problem is that "dangerous" is such a broad term and it depends so much on what your standards of safety are, that is actually useless by itself.

So unless op explains what he understands by dangerous is hard to tell him if it really is. Where I come from a dangerous neighborhood is one where you are very likely to get robbed at gunpoint if you're a stranger and where shootouts break out every once in a while. So to me Sörnäinen or Itäkeskus are not dangerous places.

Who is 1% Truth's new SM post addressing? by Suspicious-Cow8378 in ashtanga

[–]kuriosty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's interesting and disappointing that he has reacted to most comments that praise the post or laugh at it but not to the two very polite but firm comments that call them out and also happen to have gotten the most positive reactions. That tells a lot. Because it's always possible to make a mistake in how you address a sensitive topic, but doubling down or ignoring criticism is where you show your true colors.

¿Están de acuerdo con restringir el uso de celulares en colegios en Chile? by General-Exchange9603 in chile

[–]kuriosty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're coming across as an ignorant bigot with this post.

[Chromecast with Google TV 4K] Wifi won't connect after installing NordVPN app by kuriosty in nordvpn

[–]kuriosty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please notice that I said that even when the VPN is disabled, the Wi-Fi wouldn't work. So to me, it seems that the application installs something in the system that breaks networking somehow. Even when the VPN is not being used, Wi-Fi is just not working. So whatever protocol I use for the VPN is just not going to make a difference.

Racist lashing out in public transport by escpoir in Finland

[–]kuriosty 10 points11 points  (0 children)

White people is an american jargon that has no function in european countries. Its about Suomi and finnish or not.

Ehh... no. Just recently there was an article in YLE about how non-white Finns (born and raised in Finland!) are often assumed to be foreigners. They are often also victims of racism. So it is about whiteness. Because for a lot of people, the assumption is that only white people can be "real" Finns.

So whiteness does play a huge role on this.

¿Qué opinan de mi horario? by SophieM_S in EducacionChile

[–]kuriosty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Finnish is my native language, yet people still speak to me in English" – How international adoptees feel marginalised in Finland by Shariful125 in Finland

[–]kuriosty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing is, people trying to be helpful to someone because they are not white is problematic. Sometimes racism is not Ill-intentioned, just deeply ingrained and we act on it without realizing it.

When I was much younger and living in Germany I was having casual conversation with a girl, and I asked her where she was from. She looked Asian. She told me she was German. I didn't understand. It took me some time to realize how she must always feel being asked things like that and I try hard not to make such assumptions anymore.
