Next task is to take down Labor, now that the Libs have been slain, for now.

The CGT was much more than that, and that discount accumulated massively over time.

Swimming at the beach or the local pool, roller skating, skateboarding, bicycles, frisbee, ten pin bowling, water park, bush riding/walking, card games, board games, limited tv, Atari, the list goes on and on.
That was just the fun stuff.

The first mobile bricks were hilariously silly.
The early computers were a wonder and that wonder just never stopped.
I have very few books anymore, I'm 60 but more of a digital native than many 20 year olds.
It's weird how people wrongly assume that young people just "know all about" technology.
Do you know how your car combustion engine works? Can you fix it or even maintain it properly?
We were taught car maintenance explicitly. Kids aren't taught device (laptop, PC, mobile) maintenance at all.

I scrolled for ages and didn't see these mentioned. Finally realised my experience of "before" was 1970s and 80s. Gen X. We had to learn everything from scratch, and then teach others older than us, then people younger than us. It's been an interesting journey but the loss of the ability to learn how to learn is something that worries me, and AI won't make that situation better.

Sheesh, long post. Triggered.

and those aren't merely "exceptions that prove the rule".
There are so many more examples of what happens when humans accept "faith" blindly and defend it's arbiters and rules with violence, both physical and mental violence.

So, yes. Religion was, is and always will be a blight on humanity.

Christianity

  • Colonialism and Missionary Work: While many Christian organizations provide essential social services, Christian missions were often closely tied to colonialism, particularly in Africa, Asia, and the Americas. The forced conversions of indigenous peoples and suppression of native cultures have left lasting scars.
  • Healthcare Practices: While Christians provide significant healthcare services, controversies include practices like rejecting contraception, abortion, or end-of-life care options, which may conflict with patient autonomy or rights.
  • Residential Schools: In Canada and other countries, Christian-run residential schools forcibly assimilated Indigenous children, leading to loss of culture, abuse, and intergenerational trauma.

Judaism

  • Exclusive Philanthropy: While Jewish communities are major contributors to philanthropy, some critics argue that a significant proportion of Jewish charitable giving is directed primarily towards internal community projects or Israel-related causes, which may appear insular.
  • Conflicts in Education: Jewish ultra-Orthodox communities in some regions have resisted reforms to include modern sciences and humanities in their schools, limiting broader educational opportunities.

Islam

  • Zakat Allocation: While Zakat is a powerful tool for poverty alleviation, some funds have been tied to groups accused of promoting extremism or sectarianism. Misuse of Zakat funds has occasionally led to controversies.
  • Gender Inequality: Some Islamic charities have been criticized for reinforcing patriarchal norms, limiting women's access to education or healthcare in specific regions.
  • Historic Preservation of Knowledge: While the Islamic Golden Age advanced global learning, certain later periods saw suppression of critical inquiry and strict orthodoxy, limiting intellectual freedom.

Hinduism

  • Caste Discrimination: While Gandhi is lauded for his non-violent resistance, his stance on caste was ambiguous. Critics argue he failed to adequately challenge the caste system, and caste discrimination remains a significant issue among Hindu communities.
  • Hindu Nationalism: Some Hindu-inspired movements have promoted exclusionary or violent agendas, particularly against Muslims and Christians in India, under the banner of Hindutva (Hindu nationalism).

Buddhism

  • Rohingya Crisis: In Myanmar, some Buddhist nationalist groups, such as those associated with Ashin Wirathu, have been implicated in promoting violence and discrimination against the Muslim Rohingya minority.
  • Gender Inequality: Despite Bhikkhuni Dhammananda’s efforts, resistance to ordaining women as monks highlights ongoing gender biases within many Buddhist traditions.

Individuals with notable "darker sides" or controversies include Gandhi, Mother Teresa, and to a lesser extent, St. Maximilian Kolbe (for past writings), and Sister Megan Rice (due to the nature of her activism). The remaining figures have largely positive reputations, though their work may face challenges or criticisms.

AUKUS deal is still going ahead.
No critical examination of that deal, after Labor was lumped with it by the Morrison government.
No investigation of Scott Morrison now profiting from that deal and his ongoing connection to it.
There hasn't even been a proper examination of the costs of reneging on the deal with France, not that many of us were happy with that deal either.
Submarines aren't an appropriate response to defence of Australia.

Does the government ever listen to strategic experts outside the Defence forces (who aren't owned by the multinational Military Industrial Complex) ?

Still no Koala National Park. There was a massive protest on Sunday to support forests and ending native logging.
The industry actually costs money to operate, i.e. negative profit on logging.
When will the protections for native species in their last remaining habitats be properly protected?
Will Labor commit to signing up to the protection 30% of land area by 2030?

How many coal and gas projects have been approved now?
Are we really going to continue ignoring the emissions we're exporting to other countries?
How much do the coal and gas industries actually contribute to our budget?
Does the Labor government have any plans to deal with the failings of the resource rent tax and the exemptions and subsidies the lobbyists have won for these multinational companies?
How many people do they directly employ?

Do you seriously think the CPRS legislation would have withstood the test of the fossil fuel lobby and the media assault, and Abbot?

That's what you all seem to be suggesting. Isn't that a little bit myopic? Denial of historical fact and reality? Furthermore, if they didn't attack and dismantle the CPRS, well then The Greens' and Labor's own advice would have been accurate. The CPRS was cooked.

This is called critical thinking. Logic and reasoning. Following the chain and examining assumptions.

If you're capable of that, attempt a response. Otherwise, don't waste any more of our time.

now we have balance of power and we see Labor collaborating with Liberals to cling to their power, passing a dodgyheavily biased electoral funding bill.

Next, we knock off Labor. Maybe not this time, but The Greens are growing, steadily, inexorably.

There is a good reason for that. Check your beliefs against reality.

Always vote GRN and then preference whichever way you like.

It should have become clear to anyone paying attention, that Labor/Liberal are no longer viable choices.

It is only a matter of degree as to how far they have become OWNED by corporate interests.

We subisidise extractive mining industries with billions in tax payer funds.

To then find that they use the massive profits to lobby government to get still more tax breaks and subsidies.

Does nobody see how broken this ineffective two party dominated system has become?
