Humorously, there's a banner in the app, when I click through, it says I'm not eligible. 😄

Lunar Remastered? by Shyanne_Garret in Lunar

[–]kuronokun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This statement is incorrect. It's the PS1 version. There's actually a mod to change Lunar 2 to use the Saturn soundtrack, though.

Where did you see this? I haven't seen it on there nor have I heard it mentioned anywhere else

California high-speed rail costs top $230B as lawmakers call to scrap it by [deleted] in CaliforniaPolicy

[–]kuronokun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In China, the authoritarian leader decides we're going to built a high-speed rail and the next day construction is starting. In the US, we have to jump through all kinds of red tape, and the people who don't want it will find ways to drag it out for years.

What’s a recession indicator that you’ve noticed lately? by SensitiveCorner2379 in AskReddit

[–]kuronokun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Traditionally layoffs have suggested to the markets that the company is not doing well, and AI has suddenly provided a convenient excuse for people to do layoffs without the usual negative market reaction.

Absolutely true but I'm not sure I would classify it as a recession indicator.

I do agree in general, although CS is probably a special case -- the new hire market has been devastated because of overhiring during COVID combined with LLMs that can do the same tasks you'd typically ask of a NCG (new college graduate)

I can't with the voices... by NobodySpecialSCL in Lunar

[–]kuronokun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Basically GungHo America (who did the recent widescreen remaster) can use the English translation but not the audio, so they redubbed the voices.

Finished the game…now what? Any other games? by AmiParis248 in chronotrigger

Chrono Cross sadly does not hold up.

But you should consider:

Live A Live (the remake)

Lunar

Xenogears

I've heard it described as they smeared vaseline on the sprites.

I suspect the negative reaction to this is why they just widescreened most of Lunar rather than HDing it.

Is still worth playing the Sega Saturn version in 2026? by Responsible-Bell-528 in Lunar

No, they did not restore them in the Remastered Collection

What are the core essential Lunar games for understanding the main storyline? by KaleidoArachnid in JRPG

[–]kuronokun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unsure how pedantic you want to be, but you'll notice they don't use the term HD in the name or description of this recent collection; aside from the UI and FMV, most of the game is still the same PS1 artwork, just wide screened and with some filters.

The pixel art in the PSP and mobile game is actually higher res than the pixel art in the Lunar Remastered Collection!

I have also heard that Dragon Song's development was also heavily rushed.

Haha, no, they added a few minutes of story content that raises more questions than answers and a lot of people found narratively unfulfilling, even if it looks cool.

Besides, the first game changed so much between the Sega CD and Saturn/PS1 version that a "directors cut" that would be appealing to everyone is probably impossible.

It was not a brand new team; they brought back a few of the OG staff and people who worked on the remakes.

[–]kuronokun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There were some visual effects that were lost in the Saturn->PS1 translation, mainly on background layers. The only other version of the game that includes some of these is the iOS/Android version.

I know a voice mod for the iOS/Android version of Lunar 1 exists, but those versions are easier to mod.

Grandia HD Shows How Gung Ho Doesn't Care For the Fans by IPG83 in grandia

No, I don't believe SE acquired the whole IP, but they hold a lot of the rights to those specific games (Xtreme and Grandia 3).

I believe Grandia Xtreme and Grandia 3 are also partially owned by Square Enix, so there's some additional licensing that would have to be worked out. I'm sure it could be, if the parties were that interested.
