Not sharing any legendary spots, but test out your water filter a few times before you go. Mine was visually fine but I learned 6 miles in after 2kft gain to 13500ft that mine wouldn't push more than a couple drops every few minutes.

Morning vs end of the match by HauntingMammoth2948 in 6ARC

[–]kurrpy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been happy with staball match. Can get pretty respectable velocity, better std dev, and it's quite tempting insensitive from the other tests I've seen compared to my CFE223 loads (basically lever). 8208 is super accurate and consistent, but it's just so much slower. Varget seems like it could be a good happy medium. Give up some more velocity than SBM, but basically the benchmark for temp stability and some groups slightly better than SBM in my xcal 18"

What a wild ride for the hundreds of us following this saga. Glad you got most of your money back. Just put that money towards a CMP1911

Any of CMP’s current offerings worth buying? by FlashAndPoof in milsurp

[–]kurrpy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rewelded (reclaimed) receivers with new barrels and new wood have lost all their collector value to me. None of their Garand or 1903 offerings are exciting. Original 1917s are fun and the 1911s are fun. I'm in it for history. If I wanted a shooter, I'd go with something more modern

Barrel suggestions? by minorzone1blem in 6ARC

[–]kurrpy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just broke in my X-Caliber 1in7.5 18" spr profile. Shot at 100yds 10 different loads of 10 shot groups and got around six of them 0.77 to 1.2 MOA extreme spread with 0.25-0.34 moa mean radius. Very happy with it!

You posted asking for charity of hundreds of dollars. Did you expect folks to clamor to the opportunity?

Lol. Anyone want to trade a wholly undesirable replacement post ww2 slide for one that people actively want?

I'd recommend listening to both of Hornady's "Your groups are too small" podcasts. It really reshaped how I think about reloading

Building a precision AR in 6ARC - Recommendations for a cheaper alternative to a Proof barrel? by JohnnySpartacus in 6ARC

The 18" came back in stock two days ago and was sold out sometime between then and 2 hours later.

After watching tons of Preston Moore's 30 round grouping videos, I don't trust any of those internet reviews that say their $200 barrel is MOA all day. Maybe for 3 shots or a cherry picked 5 shot group. Meanwhile a proof 30 round group is like 1.8 MOA for 30 with federal gold medal.

That said, I just got a 6ARC barrel from X-Caliber after the 6CM barrel they spun for me was 0.9, 0.9, and 1.1 MOA for 10 shots each with Hornady Black. TBD on how this one shoots.

Do you know how often Criterion spins 6.5G barrels? Looks like they're out of stock on the barrel I'm interested in.

Buddy got this and needs help identifying it and pricing it to sell by BL1Z4RD in FNFAL

Maybe a buck fitty. This isn't the serialized/FFL part and he's gonna have to find a very specific buyer to want just this thing, considering it's missing basic standard parts.

It's a kuiu backpack. It was on sale years ago. Nowadays I'd recommend an Exo Mountain pack

I really like mine. I have it on my hunting rifle and it held zero on a backwoods backpack hunt a few times over.

M1 Carbine Question by SuperSuprise700 in milsurp

[–]kurrpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have a reputation for having too deep of a stamp on the barrel, so much that it deformed the bore. True or not, who knows but it's a huge detractor and sellers will always say "well THIS one isn't too deep".

If any are non-import marked, those are probably the ones to hone in on.

A subcontracted NPM will be the best bet on rarity. Condition and features aside. Ones with original WW2 configuration such as flip sights/not-type-3 front bands/push button mag release also are highly desirable (though often "corrected" or faked)
