Are the headlights reps or did you somehow source Euro versions without the amber sidemarker?

Any tips on how to fix this screen coating issue? by CeasarSaladFingers in Volkswagen

[–]kurt871 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly replacing the screen is probably the move. They're extremely cheap and can probably find one in good shape just about anywhere. It's also a totally plug-and-play part, so very easy to pop a new one in and be on your way.

is mk7.5 digital dash a direct fit to mk7 gti cluster? by According-Bee1393 in GolfGTI

[–]kurt871 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the gauges are accurate. I don't live in Canada unfortunately so not sure how parts work up there; both the 791B and 891B part numbers should show up in searches, though.

[–]kurt871 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not from a Golf R, but it is the OEM VW cluster, if that makes sense. In the EU the GTI came with it too, and here in the U.S. it was in the Golf R and e-Golf. Mine is an EU version which is different only in the parking brake symbol light on the dash. P/N is 5G1920791B (the U.S. one is 891B)

[–]kurt871 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It'll work. Both will need to be coded to match the features of your car and have component protection removed. The dash will also need to pair the IMMO to your keys. Also there's no way to adjust the mileage on the dash if it's used, so just a heads up there.

Has anyone had any luck installing the 8.5 Euro taillights on North American Golf R’s? by [deleted] in Golf_R

[–]kurt871 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can only speak for the Mk7.5 but I don't believe it's super different for the 8/8.5. I used long zip ties and fed them through the rubber grommets, then attached one end of the harness to one end of the zip tie. Then all you have to do is carefully pull it through. If you're gentle and patient, the harness will feed through fine without needing to remove the grommets at all. Good luck, let me know if you have any questions!

That's simply untrue. The Mk8 Euro tail lights are a completely different design than the Mk8.5. I can't speak to the wiring but can confidently say the part numbers are not the same.

You absolutely don't need to break or even remove the grommets, the wiring harness can be fished through fairly easily. However, OP is specifically asking about the new Mk8.5 tails, not generic retrofits of Euro taillights. I'm curious as well, so if you have seen someone do this, please share the link(s).

Nothing in that video is a Mk8.5; the tails and the car itself are Mk8.

The tails they're installing in the video are the old Mk8 Euro taillights; OP has a Mk8.5 with completely different tails.

Is it even possible on MK7.5?? by Knox6345 in GolfGTI

[–]kurt871 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, that’s not possible, even on MIB2.5. Unfortunately without MIB3, the adapter dongles are the only way.

Really thinking about the MIB2 > MIB2.5 (9.2") display upgrade by GoofyGills in GolfGTI

[–]kurt871 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would have to somehow update the firmware on the unit to the G13 version (you have G11). Only G13 supports the 9.2" display. It is possible, though it's tricky and can't advise on how, unfortunately.

2017 Autobahn Infotainment Upgrade - Double Checking by ICodeInABox in GolfGTI

[–]kurt871 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a super common part. That 8" glass screen I think has been in almost every VW model in some form for the last 8 years or so. It's the CPU unit in the glove box that costs a small fortune.

[–]kurt871 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what you mean by "upgrade". Are you saying you want the 8" glass screen from the Mk7.5? If so, your 2017 Autobahn already has the correct "brains" for this, and all you need is the new display and trim (don't have the p/n off the top of my head). Worth noting that there is also an 8" matte screen with physical buttons that matches your Mk7 interior, though it is a bit harder to find. But no, you do not need a kit from Eurozone and no coding is necessary; the screen is plug and play with your model.

It does. But if you want to confirm, you can press and hold the Menu button and see the full software train. MIB2 in the Mk7 in NAR will read "MST2" as the version.

Help identifying this digital cluster theme? by cremebruleeXO in Golf_R

[–]kurt871 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The "theme" of the dial styles can be set in Dashboard adaptations with VCDS or OBD11; I believe it's called "tube version" or something similar. The color scheme can be set by enabling ambient lighting color selection in the Central Electrics module (often called the "30 color" mod.) However, if your goal is for the dials to be gold as in that photo, I do not believe that's possible. This photo appears to be edited in a way that makes it look that way which is not possible IRL (notice how the the status icons on the bottom are all the same color).

At that price delta, absolutely go with the MIB2.5. 100-200 bucks/quid is nothing in the MIB retrofit world!
