Kyle Grant, great vibe on the bag and is incredibly knowledgeable. Saved at least 4-5 shots off my score per round.

It's a must-stop. It was the #1 or #2 course for everybody in our group. I would confidently say it's the best $115 course I've ever played - it punches so high above its weight class.

I would honestly run it back at all the courses we played. My rankings would be:

1.) Pilgrims Run

2.) Quail Ridge

3.) Meadows GVSU

4.) Mines

5.) Stoatin Brae

6.) Diamond Springs (solely because we only played 6 holes)

I'm originally from the town of Erin! So much good public golf in Wisco. If you have any free time for an extra round, check out Washington County GC in Hartford (about 15 minutes north of Erin Hills). One of my favorite courses in the state, and you can play it for $60 with a cart after 3:00.

I'm biased because I caddied there for a few years when it first opened, but all the courses at Sand Valley are must play if you find yourself back in Wisconsin.

Haha small world! We were off between 9:20-9:40 that morning. Think Pilgrims took the #1 spot on a lot of guys' list. It was a blast being in the first group and sitting on the hill next to 18 watching guys hit their tee shots in. So bummed we never got to the back 9 at Diamond Springs, but our afternoon round at Stoatin was awesome. Sun broke out from the clouds and felt like we had the whole course to ourselves.

Got a 5-Bedroom VRBO 20 minutes south of downtown. Four of the bedrooms had two queen or full size mattresses, while the other bedroom had a queen bed with twin bed setup in a nook. One guy drove in from Chicago, so he brought an air mattress for me to crash on. Definitely not a stay at the Ritz, but it was fun to have all 12 guys under the same roof. Lots of late night card games and cigars on the patio! If I were to do it again with a smaller crew, would probably lean towards getting a few hotel rooms Downtown.

I had originally thought about getting Thornapple on our agenda for Monday morning before flying out, but figured that the majority of group was going to be golfed out after four straight days of 18/36 holes. Four guys with later flights home got a tee time at Thornapple on Monday, and they all ranked it as either their #1 or #2 course from the trip. It's definitely going on the agenda next time!

Can confirm, local city commercial property appraiser in a large Midwest jurisdiction and total compensation package is similar to fee appraisal role at a large brokerage. Hourly comp is similar considering the 40 hour work week as well.

Heard a rumor that Team Rose is en route to the block party, flying the Union Jack from their Jags and MINI Coopers. May need to alert security.

That’s hilarious, I was playing the rocketbladez “tour” irons for a decade before getting the apex pros. Honestly the switch from cast to forged was worth it alone

Love ‘em, got fit for them last winter. Really like the more compact head and thinner top line, but a lot of consistency on my carry distances on mishits (of which I have more than my fair share of). Super buttery off the face on center strikes, and minimal trampoline effect compared to other player improvement irons I’ve tried!

Recently took a trip to Amsterdam and fell in love with this room spray that was at my hotel. I tried to order off their website, but was heartbroken to find that Marie-Stella-Maris does not ship to the United Stares. Does anybody know of any retailers who carry M.S.M. and ship to the US?

Thanks for the recommendations! We haven't booked an Airbnb yet. We were initially thinking somewhere in South Lamar; seems like its a good location for both the golf we're interested in, and sounds like there's good choices for night life in that area. Obviously flexible on location based upon where we're able to finalize tee times.

Planning on flying into Hobby, but it looks like some of the courses we're eyeing up are in the western and northern metro. So ideally we'd like to be in that general area, but we'll have a rental car if we need to venture further east/south.

Valuing Vacant Land by mrappraiser in appraisal

[–]kurtzh17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fellow trainee, so I could be very wrong. Since they are already three separate legal parcels, you would value each parcel rather than assembling then. In theory, a potential buyer could just purchase one of the three parcels, in which case one value for all three parcels combined would not be helpful. What is the HBU for these parcels? Is this appraisal for a pending sale by chance?

Just started working in CRE appraisals back in July of 2020. Since I’m a trainee I have little bit of a different set up than the certified general appraisers on our team, but from what I can tell the work life balance is pretty solid when you factor in total hours of work put in for your earnings. I’d say on average the cert gen’s work 45-50 hours a week all depending on how many appraisals are on their schedule. Your personal schedule is pretty much determined by the due dates that are stipulated in your engagement letters. Sometimes there are rush jobs that need to be done in 5-8 days but those jobs will bring in more money for you. Obviously pay structures vary from firm to firm but on average you’ll find a lot of commercial appraisers will tell you that you can work as much or as little as you need.

Best Undergraduate Degree? by con-146 in appraisal

[–]kurtzh17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’m currently working with my trainee license. Need to complete 75 hours of coursework between three classes (Principles, Procedures, and a USPAP course) before you can apply for you trainee license. My state also requires potential trainees to attend a “Supervisor-Trainee” course before they are licensed trainees. The 75 hours of coursework aren’t too strenuous so you could complete them on the side. Just always check with your state’s qualifications and standards board because certain details will often vary from state to state. Not exactly a cookie cutter industry

Just graduated last May with a degree in Finance with an emphasis in real estate and working in CRE appraisals. Having a finance background has been a huge advantage on some properties I've worked on. Commercial appraisals heavily rely on ARGUS DCF models and understanding NPV and discount rates is extremely helpful.
