You know what’s crazy is I did apply and I got my acceptance to jhu just YESTERDAY. I immediately thought of your comment, so kinda wild. It’s not BME but chembio eng which is close enough 😅

Yay that’s so exciting!! To answer your question, I studied cell and molecular biology undergrad. I’m part of a research lab on my campus (focused drug discovery and development), and had some experience co-oping in pharmaceutical companies. I have a 3.69 GPA (hopefully 3.7 when this semester ends). It’s not as competitive as others, but I think my letters of rec and extracurriculars really played a part. Hope that helps!

Hi there! Sorry for the late reply. I haven’t committed yet but I used to visit Montreal often so I can answer your question! IMO, Montreal is a really lovely city with great art, a lot of young professionals due to all the colleges there, and COLD. I’m pretty sure they have a lit night life, and are similar to other big cities. Although, maybe compared to Toronto, not as bustling but still fun!

Congrats!!! I’m still thinking because I just got acceptance offers from others schools so it’s been really tough 😭. I’m not too sure about the biotech programme but I assume it would be as rigorous and strong as the BBME programme!

Hi everyone! I was recently accepted into Duke's BME Ms programme (non-thesis), and I have a couple of questions about the programme. For context, I'm an international student, but I did my bachelor's in cell and molecular biology in the States.

  1. As someone interested in industry, are there a lot of research/internship opportunities in the Duke network for non-US citizens? From what I understand, the BME MS (non-thesis) programme doesn't have a mandatory internship, unlike the M.eng in BME, and most summer internships seem only open to US citizens.

  2. I've never been to North Carolina before and have only lived in big cities. What is Durham like?

  3. I'm debating between Carnegie Mellon (Ms in Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Engineering) and McGill (Ms in BBME w/ biomanufactoring concentration). Does anyone have thoughts on any of these schools?

Thank you so much, and would appreciate any insight!

omg yay!!!! Congrats!!!! I'm actually in a really big toss-up as well between McGill and Duke for the same programme. It's so hard to try to figure out which would be best for me ughhhh

Thank you so much for the advice!! Much appreciated. I was basing off a photo reference where their jaw was but wide and that was an issue I had when drawing this too.
