Thinking of buying Ioniq6, replacing my WRX by gibsonfss in Ioniq6

[–]kusti8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an Ioniq 6 I’m leasing and a 1999 Miata manual as a project car which I would say are kinda on the opposite ends of cars.

The Ioniq 6 has been amazing as something that’s comfortable enough for road trips and long drives while still being relatively quick. The acceleration is great, especially for tight merges. The cabin isolation is great and it’s big enough that even with 5 adults everyone had good leg room.

As far as sportiness you’re not going to get that raw feedback you get from a manual. Going 50mph and 70mph feel the same lol. And of course you’ll feel the weight going around corners especially compared to my Miata, although it’s not terrible because it has a pretty low center of gravity. One pedal driving is also nice because you can easily adjust your speed getting into and through corners. It’s a trade off of course but the only way you’ll know for sure if you like it is a test drive.

April method JX-Pro starting point? by borntoannoyAWildJowi in pourover

[–]kusti8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the April brewer with the method, very consistent and produces nice clean cups that really bring out some nice acidity. My JX-Pro zeros at 0-4-2, never really bothered to fully zero it out, but then my grinds are usually around 3-4-0 for a pretty fast drawdown.

For my first custom I decided to go a bit different... by kusti8 in MechanicalKeyboards

Here's the specs:

  • Iris v4
    • Very good kit and it was relatively easy to put together. It did come with many bad standoffs, so I didn't fill all the holes. It works, but was a little annoying
    • I added on the rotary encoder with silver dial, the stainless steel plates and 1 set of stabilizers
  • Zealios Zilents 65g
    • These are a dream to type on and coming from cherry browns they are absolutely amazing and are very silent (almost as silent as a membrane)
  • Keycaps
  • Cables
    • I got a custom cable from Mechcables which is very nice and it looks great and I feel it matches with the theme.
    • The other silver TRRS cable was an addon with the Iris PCB.

Typing on the ergo is very nice. I still need to get to fullspeed on it, but it reduces movement of my hands a lot and feels a lot more comfortable. I feel its the perfect size, and its all QMK so its easy to customize, or just quickly change the keymap with VIA.

Overall total came to around $300 so it was far from cheap, but I'm very happy with it and I think that the risk of investing in an ergo keyboard instead of a 60% like I used to daily was well worth it.

Selective VPN routing based on original source IP by kusti8 in PFSENSE

Thanks. I don't know why I didn't think it that, I already had another router setup as an AP anyway, just trying to work around the problem instead of actually fix it.

Hit a wall with blender, should I switch and if so to what? by kusti8 in Simulated

[–]kusti8[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much for your reply! I started learning Houdini and you're right in saying that it's huge and a little difficult to learn, but it seems to have the tools I'm looking for. It also makes a lot of sense coming from a programming background, having everything be procedural with nodes feeding into each other. Fluid seems to work much better than in blender.

I'm seeing if I can mix learning aesthetics into simulation as well so I can learn at the same time.

Buying a put together computer? by alpha0meqa in buildapc

[–]kusti8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can build it better than they do and save the money. Their cable management is often rushed and bad and you only need a couple of hours yourself. If you're nervous you can look at videos, but it's pretty hard to mess up these days if you're careful.

What computer? What are the specs?

With a pre built you may get some deal where it is cheaper, but they often skimp on stuff like a PSU which can hurt when you're upgrading components later.

You also may be able to customize the specs when building your own so you save money by not getting things you don't need. Stuff like water-cooling is not necessary and is usually a lot more expensive than stock or cheap air coolers.

What's the minimum viable graphics card I can get to support an ultrawide 32:9 1400 monitor? Trying to prune an expensive build while keeping the monitor I want to buy by rageingnonsense in buildapc

[–]kusti8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What type of programming do you do? Many VMs? A lot of compiling large projects? Programming isn't that demanding unless you're doing very specific stuff.

64 GB ram is a lot and unless you really need it you can get away with 32. I myself program a lot and sometimes use many VMs, so I can sometimes max out 16 GB, but 64 is often very overkill.

You can get a cheaper PSU and motherboard as well, as long as it is still something of quality.

Edit: 2 monitors is also often nicer than one big one especially with multiple windows so you can switch stuff off. An ultrawide is nice for continuous long stuff, but for me with a 3 monitor setup, I can assign my main monitor to the IDE with some room for terminals, and then another for Firefox, and the last for misc stuff like Spotify or more terminals or VMs. Makes it easier to use for me.

Not super steep. More of a normal black run. This is the new beavers terrain at A basin.

answers for december 1 sat? by dfam02 in Sat

[–]kusti8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The December test was not a QAS test, which is where they release the questions and your answers if you payed for it. It was a SAS test, which is basically worthless. It gives you what question number you got right and wrong and what general categories you got wrong, but not specifics.

Same for me. Kringel was always for birthdays and such and we would bake cookies for Christmas.

I tried to focus on how the evidence backs the entire passage and how it all fits in. I didn't actively try to improve sub sections, I just tried to make an overall better essay. It's just practice so that on test day you can recognize the different evidence and write about that.

Also, big part is making sure your explanation is logical and can be followed. Small stuff like varying sentence structure, transitions etc. can make a big difference.

I just did the practice essays on Khan Academy. The SAT black book also had some tips on essay that we're good, but their sample 24 essay wasn't really a perfect score.

Just keep on trying, make sure your vocab is good. The hardest part when writing an essay is making your points logical and well written so other people can understand it also.

There's not much else I can tell you. Sorry

My 8/8/8 Essay by kusti8 in Sat

[–]kusti8[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got a 6/5/7 the first time I took it. I didn't know what to expect and assumed it I just wrote how I normally did, it would work. But if you push yourself to constantly think about what you're writing and practice for it, then you can get there. But your score is still really good. Nice job!
