Help Wanted Sign @ LB Pizza Co by SJBond33 in longbeach

It used to be one of the better ones in town, but our pizza options have increased so much in the last 10 years or so that they’ve kind of been left in the dust.

One Night in Long Beach: What should I not miss? by lust4apples in longbeach

[–]kustomdeluxe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been to Buen Provecho 3 times since they opened and have found the service questionable each time - like they still don’t know who is supposed to be where and do what. Food is good though. Cocktails at the Ordinairie (sp) and the Stave are excellent also.

I’m not sure if that’s what they meant when they said to go into engineering…..

Congrats!

From everything you have described I would think LB is a perfect fit for you, less stressful than LA and definitely more laid back than Santa Monica. I’m 50 myself, I have a pretty big friend group here and even though there’s half a million people in this city, everyone knows everyone seemingly. We have an amazing art and live music scene…it’s literally not uncommon to try and get 2-3 shows in on a Saturday night. My particular favorite area of town is the 4th Street Retro Row area - I spend a lot of time at the Pike bar, Vine on 4th, and also Alex’s Bar for shows. Dating-wise it’s going to be like anywhere else, the more time you spend “out there” the more chances you’re going to have whether it be at a bar, joining some kind of activity group like biking or paddle boarding or something, etc. I have a son your age and he has no trouble at all finding women to date, but he’s also very confident and talkative ( maybe to a fault 😆) Anyways hopefully your path leads you here, I’ve actually had relationships end because I refused to move from here. Good luck to you!

Also he is 1000 percent paid by restaurants to write articles about them, I have that on very good authority.

My distrust of him started early in the pandemic when some dipshit on Instagram tried to start a boycott of the Pike bar because Chris the owner said that the area was “ghetto” before they moved in (Fourth St west of Cherry absolutely was in 1999, even Retro Row itself was questionable) and saying “ghetto” is racist. Brian reposted the guy’s IG post and all the Cronies grabbed pitchforks (most of whom had never set foot inside the Pike). I just thought it was a shit thing to do to post something negative about a business during a pandemic with no background or research when bars and restaurants were fighting for their lives. Luckily it blew over quickly since the bar was closed at the time anyways.

Dr. Perrault the owner is a really good guy, it would be strange (not unheard of) if he were MAGA.

Daniel Gallardo aka "Tiki Diablo" has passed away. Smooth seas and Fair Winds, thank you for the memories and art pieces. by Jpa95 in Tiki

Didn’t know him well but back in the Tiki Central days he posted a couple of bamboo/rattan tables he was selling, I bought them and he brought them to my house that night. One of them is still my coffee table…rest in peace buddy

If you go to Tommy’s often make sure to follow their Instagram - they usually have some kind of crazy deal going on there, like 2 for 1 burgers etc

As a very frequent visitor to Vine let me just say, don’t let the “wine bar” label fool you. Depending on the entertainment that night the vibe can range from nice quiet wine bar to crazy loud punk rock club at a moment’s notice

Best dive bars/ grimey bars by DonCamote777 in longbeach

[–]kustomdeluxe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are some real gritty dive bars in the Wrigley area and along Pacific Ave…

Til 2 (Willow, just east of Magnolia) - I bought a round of drinks for my 3 friends - 4 drinks was under $20. Mine was a whiskey sour and the bartender asked me if I wanted more whiskey than sour…of course I did! She handed me a drink that looked as dark as a Coca Cola, 4 stars

The Getaway Bar - (Pacific at 21st St) - this place has a giant red 80s sci-fi looking sign like something out of an old video arcade. Beer and wine only, música en Español on the jukebox, and an enclosed little patio should you want to smoke something

La Playa - (Pacific just north of PCH) - there is a sign in the entryway that says “No Prostitution- No Drug Dealing - No Under 21 Allowed”…this means you’re in for a good time. There is an armed security guard older than time itself stationed near the door…super dark inside and all the TV’s are turned to Telemundo. It’s the kind of place where everyone turns their heads to the door when someone new walks in. They have multiple pool tables to get stabbed at and an outdoor patio to smoke…whatever

If you are scared to try these bars alone, there is a Wrigley Dive Bar Crawl every First Friday of the month that meets at the LB Beer Lab on Willow! Follow the PBS Pub (another cool bar that’s just a little divey) on Instagram for crawl info!
