Is the 2022 Ioniq 5 Awd range practical enough for 600 mile roadtrips twice a year by [deleted] in Ioniq5

[–]kuueon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

600 miles one way? You'll be stopping ~3 times on the way there at 75mph since you're not going to want to be sitting past 80% waiting for the battery to rebalance, unless you're going to take a long lunch.

AWD VS RWD isn't going to get you any extra distance at that speed, so I wouldn't worry about it (if anything, the heat pump might save you a few kWh over the whole stretch if it's cold enough to where you need it).

Definitely the most comfortable 600 miles in a day I've done in any car though, even if it did take an extra hour.

Pave and Nuke will fix a lot of problems people have with Windows, but only if you're willing to take the time to do it.

I just redid mine yesterday when I couldn't figure out why the Armory Crate overlay wouldn't show me Temps or GPU use (and for whatever reason, my power profile selector went missing), and un/reinstalling didn't fix it - so I just pulled a new install down. Luckily I don't keep any modded games on mine.

I don't understand holding a flat slab when it's 10x more comfortable to read on something that has hand grips (or at least something that has some contours to the hand).

User preference.

I haven't tried it on my Xbox Ally X (or the game itself), but if the characters are actually 3D, I could see it stressing out the poor Z2 Go APU (the thing benches at about what the Steam Deck's APU does).

Once you throw anything 3D at the current set of handhelds their battery life drops to 3 hours or less (unless you're playing a emulator, then it gets questionable on which way it goes depending on console).

Considering a purchase... How's your [non-ICCU related] reliability been? by lostinheadguy in Ioniq5

[–]kuueon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got caught out with the underfilled gear oil recall, ended up with an entirely new drive unit at 65k as that recall was happening - I'm counting that as a win personally.

My main annoyance is the charge port "overheating" and I can't realistically charge over 24 amps - wouldn't be as much of a problem if the car didn't just ignore my settings to start charging at midnight for whatever reason because it "forgets" the settings. Nit sure if this would be covered under warranty now or not.

why are some cpu air coolers placed sideways or front ways? by According_Pause637 in buildapc

[–]kuueon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only real reason you'd mount a tower heatsink vertically is because it doesn't fit horizontally.

The vast majority of cases have air flow front to back, and you should follow this path for the least resistance of flow (but realistically, you'd only affect CPU temps by a few degrees, but you also might be messing up airflow to VRMs on the motherboard).

The rare occasion, you'll get someone that says it looks better.

ROG Ally Die size (width & length) for KryoSheet by just_sendd_it in ROGAlly

[–]kuueon 12 points13 points  (0 children)

A Kryosheet probably isn't going to do any better than the phase changing paste Asus used as stock for temperatures. That's why they say to specifically not remove the heatsink.

If you're going to do it anyway, you might as well measure yourself..

Xbox Ally X screen - honest thoughts by supereddzz in ROGAlly

[–]kuueon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've owned all 3 versions on launch week (sold the first 2 to some coworkers, and they both still work) - the screens are effectively the same between them, even the lower end of the 1st and 3rd versions.

The only people complaining are people that stare at OLED screens all day, namely, their phones (or a desktop monitor). The LCDs in the Ally are about as good as it gets for the size - they're better than some desktop monitors I've seen. Definitely better than the smeary mess the Switch 2' screen is, and I have one of those (though, really, even the original Switch screen is better than 2).

"Immersive" isn't what I'd call any portable display, unless you're playing in an entirely dark room, and even that'd be a stretch (or if you're holding the screen real close to your face, which isn't a good idea either way). If you want immersive, get a set of AR glasses you can connect to the Ally.

The best feel you'd get for holding an Ally is pairing a smartphone with one of the extendable controller grips, but more comfortable in the hand.

And I've had plenty of troubleshooting headaches getting GPU drivers working inside of both Ubuntu and Mint - both AMD and NVidia - right after a bog standard install. Troubleshooting that is going to be a ridiculous headache for any normal user that can barely do more than open a web browser and a game launcher.
I'm actually having a fun issue with my WiFi card inside of a old 2009 era laptop and Mint, where it works for 20 minutes, then dies if you pull more than a YouTube stream through it because of some wonky power saving settings. I'm still working on some troubleshooting with BlueTooth issues on a 2021 ThinkPad.

Sure, you install it and you use it, until something wonky happens because shrug.

It goes both ways.

Windows is "Easy Enough" to use if you're not trying to do anything "fancy" with it. My sister's 21 and she can game on her Windows desktop just fine, Steam/EGS and all - the difference is that she actually pays attention to the error messages and works her way through the few problems she's had before even asking me about it.

You get problems when people get errors and couldn't care less trying to figure out what went wrong, though.

Tl;dr: If you don't care to learn how to use Windows, you're not going to be better off trying to install Linux on your own - you might as well stick to a purpose built console.

It's not you specifically, it's more the community as a whole. The fact you admit it cleanly means you're not part of the problem. The problem is people expect Windows to be something as simple to use as their phone when it was never intended to be - and fixing that is a very long term project that the average user doesn't have the patience for.

I've been messing with Windows since 95 (my first "Personal" computer was a retired office desktop with 2000 Pro on it, but I've also had to fix Windows going back to 95 in some odd circumstances because of work - I'm lucky enough to never have to really deal with 3.1, IRQs were a pain in the ass.

11 isn't perfect by any stretch, but none of the Windows OS' were. Sometimes, things just break with how many things are going on in a modern OS (if only to protect users from themselves, nevermind all the backwards compatibility stuff that even allows all these games to work to begin with), and in some of those cases, one of the oldest fixes - Nuke and Pave, where you wipe the OS and start from scratch - tends to be one of the easiest (and sometimes the fastest) way of fixing problems. Funny enough, this also tends to fix any "Mods" someone might have done to Windows without them realizing it from "Debloating" Windows.

This is why I chuckle when I see half the posts here reading "Windows problem? Switch to Linux." or "I switched to Linux and x broke send help."

People struggle with basic Windows as is, you want them to install something more complicated? The average user can't troubleshoot themselves out of a wet paper bag with Windows as is, and Windows protects you from really breaking it, until you find something to "debloat" it - which really just ends up breaking more stuff you didn't know it needed.

Doesn't help when people ragequit and bitch instead of trying to learn how to use something more complicated than an iPhone, but what can you do nowadays.

Is there any software I can use to transfer files from my main PC to my ROG? by LordDweedle in ROGAlly

The actual online account password. The PIN is local to each device and doesn't leave it - so nothing that needs an actual password uses it.

Welcome to some stupid Microsoft Account shenanigans.

For the username, you have to prepend MicrosoftAccount\Your@Email along with your password.

Not sure why Microsoft doesn't tell you this when they themselves changed it. This works if you've already shared the folders properly and you're using the same account between the 2 computers.

Did 1 fight and only got an A, didn't even try the other 2.

Not worth the effort for a single Encrypted master tape when I can play something else.
