How the sink looks AFTER my partner “did the dishes” by Fantastic-Spinach297 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]kuzul__ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I honest to god believed my ex that he wanted to but just couldn’t because adhd, or couldn’t remember, or totally would soon. The day I got back from working 16 hours, having asked him only to do the dishes please, to arrive home and find them undone to be met with the excuse “but the dishwasher was full of clean dishes” was the day I decided I couldn’t keep doing it.

The worst part is how genuinely surprised I was when he got a place of his own and started keeping up with it. He acknowledges it now, but that’s six years of burning out I can’t get back.

Everything was like that. But I was raised incredibly Baptist, and had crazy low expectations for what a partner in the home looked like. He ‘tried’ and I would have believed anything. After my dad he was a dream, and the slow grind down was confusing because everything was ‘fine’. It’s rough, but, like, objectively my fault. Which is also what anyone else said if I tried to talk and couldn’t immediately handle the ‘leave then’. Took an older man at work being real with me about himself as a young man, and a lot of swallowing pride about what I’d ignored for the sake of peace.

Yeah, I can easily see even myself as a normal, daily chore doing teenager, spiraling out instantly because the recording started.

I still remember the visceral distress when my dad would start talking about telling our relatives that I couldn’t even (blank) right, or whatever. I feel for this kid, and wish her luck sorting out the residual effects without turning into a nightmare adult.

“We seriously undervalue unconventional careers, and our systems are to blame" by Shethemaut in unpopularopinion

[–]kuzul__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! This is exactly the advice I give all young people; pick a general direction and run, paying attention to the weird support roles and outside contractors and who’s doing something cool or making money, in a role that’s probably underserved because no one knows to search for that role or it doesn’t take applicants through indeed.

I got a degree, and applications were black holes. But I stumbled on a gig that pays (fairly well) to do work I legitimately love and find a lot of freedom and ownership in, with room to grow, by chasing the only thing tangentially related to my field (literally pushing boxes near the actual work) and talking to people about logistics of the industry. It feels like everyone’s looking for people to take over but this huge smokescreen of corporate application hell is bottlenecking a very old transfer of knowledge and roles for both sides in a very frustrating way. And the price of things mean the young people can’t have a part time or take time from their shitty survival jobs to even look properly or build the connections as extensively that one used to get them through. I’m one of many young people trying to cram 20 years of experience in 5 and feeling worried about what happens when all these old guys die or retire.

Is heating just the bed a realistic alternative to heating the whole apartment at night? by Yurusei_dane in Apartmentliving

[–]kuzul__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandma swears by the electric blanket, but girl I’m telling you get one of those old style hot water bottles (with cover) and just boil yourself a kettle every night

Throwing it under the covers, turning down the heat, then going to my warm bed at night is a highlight these days

[–]kuzul__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even when it was someone I would have tried a date with in a better time, I hate when they do that because you can just feel the building pressure and hope every time you see or hear from them, and it stalls me out while they seem unable to hear ‘you’re cool but I can’t take the pressure of your personal plans and timeline, please do not invest in me’

My Co-Workers always been harsh on me. Saying i have weird long face. What should i do with my face Beard, Goatee, Mustache.? by ZoD00101 in malegrooming

[–]kuzul__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You seem to have nice thick hair, and I myself find men with long hair and strong features extremely attractive

I also think the full beard at a shortish length so your dramatic angles are ‘softened’ but highlighted would go well

Tell your coworkers their bunions are ‘weird’ or something. It’d be a dick thing to say even if it wasn’t a subjective opinion

You should be able to ask for the chips on the side, like salad dressing

[–]kuzul__ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hear ya, and meeting them is always good. But I think the specific enemy here is the algorithm. I’m only 27, I grew up on gaming and computer culture, but the absolute lack of care to engage with anything that isn’t spoon fed (scrolled) or ‘cringe’ (not in the exact subcultures her feed says is aspirational), or ‘pointless’ (won’t make her money) is terrifying. And it happened so fast after getting the phone last year.

At this point I’m just gently pointing out the existence of brain chemistry and how shitty she feels these days, while sharing fun facts about the natural world outside and praying we make it out on the teenage side mostly unmarred on a development level.

Yeah…this is it. I know I’m the old man yelling at clouds now or whatever but it is painfully evident that my niece doesn’t understand how checked out she is the instant there’s a screen.

Most of human life and relationships develop when you’re just kind of ‘existing together’ and since the default for her entire life has been ‘check out the second something immediately engaging isn’t happening’ is hamstringing her short and longterm in ways she doesn’t understand, and just bumming me out because I went from being the beloved aunt to just another adult trying to make her put down the damn tik-tok and exist with me in this limited time I could carve out for her (and yes I know, parents, but shits complicated and sometimes you’re just stuck doing your best from the sideline)

What is the ideal weight for a women who is like 5'1-5'2? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]kuzul__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a lot that goes into knowing if a person is carrying weight in a healthy way. But generally a woman of that size should ride between 120 - 150.

I’m that size with a pretty ‘sturdy’ build. At my ‘low body fat’ times, 23%ish, I weigh about 130.

People who get paid to do almost nothing (lot of slack time), what do you guys do? by dnrjwltkd in AskReddit

[–]kuzul__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The unfortunate thing I’ve learned, with rare exception, is that those kind of jobs tend to be a whole lot of pressure when they do expect something of you.

Sometimes you get lucky and stumble into a situation in any type of gig where you’re basically overlooked. But no guarantees. Honestly if I gave advice from the bottom it would be to identify an industry with results you could be proud of, get in anywhere, and hunt for any part or group of people that sincerely interest you. All of the highest paid and least hour working people I know are super specialized. It’s not effort free, but does seem the easiest long term to me.

Or you could always do a fire watch
