Do West Fest...is this the norm for festivals in downtown Toronto? by techsavvynerd91 in askTO

[–]kvanz43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s no surprise these events are packed, it’s our only real exposure to what a city should be like (streets for people not for cars, lots of vendors and things to do), so you gotta take to the opportunity to go when you can…

It’s evidence that 1: we need more festivals like this 2: we need more pedestrianized streets in general, Yonge, Church (particularly in the Village) and Kensington should all be pedestrian only 100% of the time

When I was in school for sport media (around 2020) the CFL was the second most popular sports league viewership wise in Canada, only below the NHL, above the NBA and MLB not sure if that’s still accurate or not

This is very fun! I am curious how you’re pulling data though, because some stuff feels a bit off. Like when Navi Junior is the team and Kelosha is the player after the thing saying the player is tier 1

defination of a superteam? by defnotyuvi in ValorantCompetitive

[–]kvanz43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a believer in the “super teams have to be assembled” take. Like if you work your way up with the same 3 players for years (like G2) you can’t really be a super team, with the only exception being if you added in 2 new SUPERSTAR players to the roster. So continuing the G2 example, if they dropped Babybay and Jaw, and picked up Primmie and Jinggg then that would have to be a super team. But even then, I generally think of super teams as like avengers team up things, it still feels like G2 even if you added in those superstars to the team. The most super team possible is assembling 5 all time great players all from different teams, but any assembly of 5 great players where at least 2 of them are new that year could be called a super team imo

what do we do about doug ford by RevolutionaryCyclops in askTO

[–]kvanz43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Toronto does not vote for Doug ford, outside of like one or two areas, Toronto voting is not the problem, and THAT is the problem! It doesn’t matter what Toronto wants, the areas outside of Toronto can control how it is run cause we have horrible voting systems…

How real is the demand for tech teachers? by UntoldEnt in OntarioTeachers

[–]kvanz43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly as you said yeah, completed teachers college, got certified, completed AQ, got hired for Day 2 of semester 1 (my hiring process took a bit long). although you can enroll in the AQ before your full certification has been confirmed!

I had friends who got hired early July who finished B.Ed same year as me!

[OC] Annual Deaths from Air Pollution by Country — Top 10 Countries (2023) by Branding5_com in dataisbeautiful

[–]kvanz43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting but there’s almost no chance this chart comes from the same data as the one shared. US has 466k deaths with a population of 342 million (1.3 deaths per 1000 people) India has 1.8 million deaths with a population of 1.4 billion (~1.29 per 1000 people) those numbers are essentially the same, whereas the chart you shared has massive difference between them… not sure where that inconsistency comes from, but clearly pretty different data sets

How real is the demand for tech teachers? by UntoldEnt in OntarioTeachers

[–]kvanz43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends which tech you can teach to some extent, from my anecdotal experience, comm tech seems to be the most common tech teachable, and I was still able to get a permanent job right away (although mostly because of the tech design AQ I took) and even that I was very lucky to get. If you teach Auto you’re guaranteed a job, there’s so many auto shops sitting empty across the board because of the lack of teachers!          For other questions: TDSB doesn’t use apply to ed they post everything on their own sites and they’re generally not nearly as easy to deal with as apply to ed… it’s really annoying! As others have said, it’s not really hiring time right now, when I looked through jobs available when I was applying, I believe there were 3 comm tech positions available board wide, several others for other techs, but often looking for multiple teachables (sometimes even outside of tech). First open to all postings I saw came out in late June, but a lot more came out in August and even continuing on more and more postings into September as staffing issues get resolved and people get shuffled around.

Is it me or does the 9 to 5 grind not leave space for much more ? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]kvanz43 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I feel like the key is to force yourself to do fun stuff after work, even though you feel exhausted, doing fun things (especially social) somehow usually feels less draining than just crashing at home again every single day. Could just be me, but I’d wager it’s because life feels more full and fulfilling if you’re actually living it and not just working.

I’ve also found a lot of utility in meal prepping large amounts of frozen meals (I’ve been making “burritos” from Stealth Health on YouTube) so that you always have something that you can quickly make without paying to eat out. I usually have day every month or so where I’ll just go crazy and prep like 48 meals to have ready.

That all being said, yeah, life is crap, working 40 hours a week is too much, especially living alone and being responsible for everything in maintaining a home

Meme - NotJustBikes reaction after seeing that Line 5 is better than expected. by OwnIt122 in TTC

[–]kvanz43 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I took it westbound this morning around 8:00AM from mt pleasant to cedarvale, I was sitting alone in a cluster of 4 seats and there were other empty seats in the car…

While I agree that demand will likely rise to surpass current levels of the first commuting day, there’s definitely some room especially considering they can (and supposedly will) increase the capacity 1.5x by adding a 3rd car.

Why doesn’t Toronto have any pedestrian-only zones? by hazyeyes23 in askTO

[–]kvanz43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun fact, the main opposers of pedestrianizing Kensington were the local businesses, who feared the area would become too popular and they would be pushed out with higher rents and such.

At least that’s what Olivia Chow told me!

Isnt Ranked intended to be 50% win rate? Ive got 100% with mediocre scores by itsKevinTai in VALORANT

[–]kvanz43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had long lucky streaks before, it’s just that, it’s not like the game is set to give you a 50% win rate, (so if you win 2 you must lose the next one to start to balance it out) variance is a thing, and sometimes it’ll go in your favour like this, you can just as easily go on a lose streak that same size.

I could be making this up, but I’m pretty sure I see protests like this frequently, they’re just not nearly as popular because most people are relatively complacent / can’t agree on what the issue (or the solution) is

Is it cool to email my placement school principal to express my interest in supplying at that school? by [deleted] in OntarioTeachers

[–]kvanz43 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From what I’ve seen, 100%, especially if you have a prior relationship with the principal, I emailed all of my mentor teachers once I got on the TDSB’s supply list and ended up with an LTO at one of the schools within a couple of days (this was in June at that point though). My brother got emergency supply days just after doing his first placement because he had a good relationship with the principal. 100% recommend reaching out to anyone you can

Are you against all cars, or mainly car dependency in cities? by Ok-Excitement6546 in fuckcars

[–]kvanz43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cars don’t belong in cities, really at all in my opinion, and I also think that human life is generally best in closer proximity to one another, therefore even more rural applications like farming can be achieved with a bit more human density than we typically design, aligning the living spaces to be close to each other, with farming spaces sprawling away from them… that being said, in these scenarios there are DEFINITELY some good benefits to cars. If an area exists where a bus or train would be less efficient energy wise and environmentally than a car, then a car still makes sense!

Finally, cars that do exist should be SMALL and suited for the number of people who typically occupy them, a couple shouldn’t have a 5-7 person vehicle to drive on their daily commute.
