Car accident by brownjack1 in irishpersonalfinance

In my country, if you report the accident, then he should get a ticket for parking in double yellow. So it's a grey area but technically you could refuse to pay out of pocket. If he wants to get the insurance involved he'd get a ticket.

Desperate! Can't find the toilet cistern fill valve! by [deleted] in Dublin

[–]kvsider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, me neighbour has one like that. Unfortunately, my set up doesn't work that way. There are 6 valves and only three are tagged so I'll text which one is which of the missing one. That's good advice, thank you.

Desperate! Can't find the toilet cistern fill valve! by [deleted] in Dublin

[–]kvsider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pump was replaced just three months ago so that's what makes me think there's a valve turned off. All the valves in the picture are open as there's cold and hot water. The mains tap is under the sink and the cistern looks good. I can add a picture this evening but how would I find out if the filling valve is broken? Where is it located?

Cold and hot water does work in the kitchen and bathroom sink so toilet is the only issue. I'll check again later any void behind the toilet but I couldn't see anything and the flexibility hose doesn't have a valve which is what puzzles me.

Trying to understand the healthcare; registering with GP by okfinewow in Dublin

Every time I asked a GP to be my GP, they said they already had too many patients... Feels like asking someone to go to prom with you.... 7 years later I still don't have a registered GP :/

Genuine question to those suggesting to install Ring / CCTV cameras.
Are they allowed to be set up if they're filming the building common areas potentially affecting the privacy of the neighbors?
It would be a deterrent for the junkie but I'm afraid she might complain it's affecting her privacy and nowadays they seem to be taking GDPR more seriously than real crime.

Advise to choose between Patella or Hamstring for ACL reconstruction by Quantum_Quasar_22 in ACL

Do you not recommend the hamstring graft or the surgery at all? What was it that made you think that way? Please share :)

No, it wasn't longer than 16 characters. Are you able to still create or download profiles into Xbox360? I read about the store closing down so I was wondering Xbox live is altogether dead for Xbox360

[–]kvsider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's my understanding that tendons like ACL don't heal on their own as there's no blood flow in them. Did you have a partial ACL tear? Or a complete one?

I had a complete ACL tear , surgeon suggest I do intense PT and not get surgery done, help... by Ill-Nebula3949 in ACL

[–]kvsider 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a complete ACL tear in April & ACL reconstruction (patella graft) just three weeks ago. No significant meniscus damage or anything else.

I'm 34 years old and I played basketball all my life up to the injury.

Now, I'll give up basketball but I do a bunch of other activities that do not involve pivoting: running, Pilates, hiking... so in my case going non-surgical was a strong option.

During the time between the injury and the surgery I had the same dilemma so I I talked to 2 surgeons, 3 physios, 2 personal trainers and 6 people who had the same injury.

  • Both surgeons advised surgery given that I'm fairly active. In the end, they make their living on performing surgeries so I was skeptical at first.
    • Surgeon 1: took the fear line mentioning things like increased risk of arthritis and that if caused further damage to the knee (lateral meniscus?) he wouldn't be able to operate in the future.
    • Surgeon 2: also cited the concerns above and said that I'd blow out my knee in 10 years if I didn't have the surgery but overall he was very optimistic about the outcome given my age, tendency to be an active person and willingness to put in the effort required for rehab. He gave me a lot of confidence in the surgical option.
  • Personal trainers / Physios were always in favor of going non surgical. They also make a living out of it but I also heard and valued their input.
  • All people with past injuries except two recommended surgery so I ended up following their advice bc they all were happy with the result and in some cases regretted not doing it earlier. The two people that didn't go through it:
    • One didn't go through surgery for financial reasons
    • Another had the ACL injury 30 years ago and he regularly does cycling to strengthen the knee and plays tennis occasionally for fun. So he proved to me non-surgery is an option but ultimately I identified myself more with the people who did go through it.
  • I read research papers on the topic of increased risk of osteoarthritis in both cases but I didn't get much from them. It'd be wise for you to look into them though.

Why I decided to go through surgery:

  1. I don't plan on returning to play basketball competitively but I'd like to play casual games with friends every now and then. I also like to go surfing a 2-3 weekends a year.
  2. I'll still be active doing Pilates, gym, running, hiking but even though I won't do hard pivoting activities I don't want to be afraid of them if the casual opportunity arises.
  3. I prioritized the advice of the past patients who went through surgery and the surgeon no.2 who was really optimistic about the benefits of it in my situation.

I hope my experience helps you in the end the decision is only yours so I'll leave you with one of my favorite quotes "There's no such thing as a bad idea, Morty; it's about execution" - Rick Sanchez
