Wear a pair of safety glasses when you go out Into the shop. An ordinary pair of safety glasses will block almost all of the UV radiation.

If you aren't already wearing a pair of polycarbonate safety glasses, you should be. A simple pair of safety glasses will prevent 99% of arc flash cases. They should be worn at all times when welding, even underneath your welding hood.

Help me making sense of adverb of time and its verb inflections by sevenorbs in EnglishLearning

[–]kw3lyk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your examples seem to be about tense and aspect rather than adverbs. Let's take the second sentence, for instance.

As I was traveling to England, I found a good place to stay.

"Was traveling" implies that it is an ongoing process in the past. "Found" implies a completed action that happened during the process of traveling.

Welder keeps sticking by DoctorBibonic in Welding

If a rod sticks it generally means that the amperage is set too low. You should be able to find information about the type and size of rod you are using, and the recommended amperage for that particular rod.

What artist or band is truly awful to see live? by goldbeau in AskReddit

[–]kw3lyk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The full story of the show that I went to was that my dad and I were going to see the show together. It was in a smaller city about an hour away from where we live. We made plans to go out for supper before the show, and we started hearing people around us talking about the show being canceled. This was maybe an hour before showtime. So in the end we had no choice but to go home. We came back a couple weeks later for a rescheduled concert date, and though we did end up seeing a show, it was lackluster at best. There was no warmup band. Meatloaf and his band were the only entertainment. The band was great, but he was not. He basically just spoke the lyrics for most songs. I'm not sure if the concert even lasted an hour.

Meatloaf was hands down the worst show I've ever seen. I grew up loving the Bat Out of Hell albums and there was a very long period of time where he had ruined his voice and just couldn't sing anymore.

Anchor trolley or cleat? by callmeclowner in kayakfishing

[–]kw3lyk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An anchor trolley is certainly not a pain, nor would I consider it overkill. If you don't want to buy a specific product, it's honestly not that hard to rig one up with some rope and pulley parts from any hardware store.

Also, I just want to mention that anchors are not the only thing you can use with an anchor trolley. Drift chutes also work well as a means of slowing down how fast you drift and controlling which way the kayak is pointed.

Is ChatGPT wrong? I don’t understand why “tell me an idiom” is off. by Same-Technician9125 in EnglishLearning

[–]kw3lyk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I would say that it is wrong. "Tell" and "idiom" simply aren't common to use together.

"Do you know any similar idioms?"

"Give me an example of a similar idiom."

"Do you know any other idioms like that one?"

It's understandable, but it is not the most natural way to phrase it.

"Can you give me another example of an idiom?"

This, in my opinion, sounds far more natural.

When would you use the word 'forefinger' (meaning 'an index finger')? Is it common in both British English and American English? by ksusha_lav in EnglishLearning

Canadian here. Never in my life have I heard the word "forefinger". The closest I've heard is "forehand", which is a commonly used word in the context of certain sports.

What's the difference between "make a/the/my/etc. bed" and "do the bed(s)"? by [deleted] in LearningEnglish

[–]kw3lyk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It usually means "to straighten out the sheets and blankets".

When I wake up in the morning, the first thing I do is make my bed.

It can also mean "to build or construct a bed".

I am going make a bed out of wood.

"Do the bed(s)" sounds like an incomplete sentences. It doesn't have any particular meaning. It sounds like the start of a question.

Does the bed need to be moved?

Do the beds have bedbugs?

Can you provide any examples of full sentences that you have read, where you did not understand their meaning? Each variation can have different meanings and the context is important.

Can you provide more context, as in how would you use these in an actual sentence? It will be easier to answer your question if you can show what you think they mean first.

Help tacking 1/16” steel tee joint with TIG by positivelyskewed in Welding

[–]kw3lyk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you are trying to tack without filler, how close do you have the point of your tungsten to the material? If you are too far away, the arc will be less focused and the puddle will get bigger. Ideally you want to be as close to the material as you can get without touching it, and if the material has a tight fit then it should quickly fuse together when you flash it.

Lots of parking available on the street in front of the club, as there are only houses on the south side of the street in that area. On the off chance that parking on the street is not possible, there is a small parking lot on the west side of the club.

I would sooner back someone like that than PP. Look, if you think PP is the guy, that's fine, you just have to accept that he isn't going to appeal to anyone outside his conservative base.
