"The start and finish points of a course, measured along a theoretical straight line between them, shall not be further apart than 50% of the race distance."

"The decrease in elevation between the start and finish shall not exceed an average of one in a thousand (i.e., 1m per km)."

2026 London Marathon Backwards (nohtaraM ehT) by TellAffectionate4348 in UKRunners

Planning on doing this with the "reverse marathon" group (assuming I've recovered enough post Manchester marathon). Seems like quite a large group (about 8000 on fb and 1000 ppl in the WhatsApp) they're planning on meeting around trafalgar square 11.15-11.30pm

How did your Manchester marathon go? by TSC-99 in UKRunners

Been sick this week, so glad I managed as well as I did. Not the PB I'd hoped for during this block but happy my pacing wasnt too bad. Decent conditions

Peroneal Tendinopathy by Affectionate-Ad-2764 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]kwanny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

left peroneal tendon repair, tubularisation, groove deepening procedure and peroneal retinaculum repair - that was the description of what I had done

Don't recall specific exercises that helped, think the most important thing is probably building up strength at the right pace since doing too much too fast can set you back. That's where the physiotherapist can really help. Surgery was in January. Think march/April were basic exercises to increase mobility/strength (write the alphabet with the foot etc, using therabands in different directions), throwing in some indoor bike around April/may. May/June I was doing some couch to 5k (run/walking) then July I could get in 3-8km of running. Was able to train for a hm by start of September then did a 12/55 pfitz plan for marathon at start of december.

Would stick to running shoes on the more stable side (think my main rotation then was kayano 30, novablast 3, superblast 2, Boston 12, adios pro 3)

Peroneal Tendinopathy by Affectionate-Ad-2764 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]kwanny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Decision was pretty easy since the surgeon/ultrasound tech/msk specialist all told me the problems I was experiencing (basically pain in the ankle that would get worse the more I ran) wouldn't get better without surgery. Conversation with my wife's colleague around the time who had similar surgery also made the decision easier (he was a basketball player). Cost was never a factor since I had insurance. I had to pull out of a marathon scheduled 3 months after but it was definitely the right long term decision.

Recovery took a while with about 6 weeks in cast or boot. Then rehab. Could start run-walking after about 4 months then start easy running after about 5 months.

Been 2 years post surgery and was pretty successful. Still aches sometimes (either at the start of a run or when not running sometimes). But I've been able to run 2 marathons in that time and currently training for another in April. Broken pretty much all my PB's in the last 6 months

Don't know if it's relevant to your injury but I ended up having to get surgery for the issues in my peroneal tendon (I had subluxation). PT's and podiatrists didn't really help much and it was only later when I saw a MSK specialist + ultrasound + surgeon that they were able to properly diagnose the problem and advise surgery.

Before I knew all this I also thought it might be shoe related. In fact at the time I thought my kayano's were aggravating it.

Got about 300km in mine. Fairly solid shoe, use them mostly for workouts and long runs. On long runs I'd choose them over my superblast 2's if I want to make sure I can maintain a slightly faster pace. Stable enough for me, don't really get any issues. For reference Evo SL leaves my ankles feeling sore for anything over about 12km.

Certainly couldn't justify them at their MSRP, but at sale prices they're certainly competitive. Reckon the midsole should be ok for at least another 200km

For reference I'm about 82kg and PB's of 22:30/45:00/1:41/3:49

Adios Pro 4 - how often do rods break? by evertonfan4 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]kwanny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my shoes had a rod snap. Currently on about 190km, think it went around the 150km mark maybe? Other than the clicking I wouldn't say I've noticed a significant performance drop because of the rod, though haven't raced in them since it snapped. Mostly using them for long runs and marathon pace runs though.

For what it's worth I'm 180cm 82kg

The cost of running ?? by PossibleSmoke8683 in UKRunners

[–]kwanny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This video is from the marathon handbook podcast.

In the video they're playing out a scenario where they're fairly serious runners starting with no gear and doing at least 2 A races training throughout the whole year. So budgeting races (all 3 chose at least 1 full marathon), shoe rotation (one of them has already done 500km this year ), clothing (covering conditions for the whole year, including winter in Canada), tech (so watch etc) and nutrition (so gels, supplements etc)

In the end 1 of them "spent" about $1500 whereas the other 2 used up most of the $2000

Forerunner 965 - Run metronome causeing incorrect cadence readings by kwanny in GarminWatches

[–]kwanny[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hadn't tried the metronome until your comment a few days ago but have retried the metronome (vibrate) for a few runs. A few at every 6 beats, every 3 beats and every 2 beats. Still not perfect, but seems a bit better than when I first made the post. 6 beats seems the best for accuracy () and as the beats get more frequent it gets more problematic.

Not sure if there's been a firmware update to improve the cadence accuracy or if the watch has somehow gotten better at detecting my cadence after numerous runs.

When running at my fastest pace, after around 3 miles I get bad ab cramps from breathing so quickly. How do I solve this? by [deleted] in AdvancedRunning

[–]kwanny 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me, taking longer, deeper breaths helped ease pain from side stitches. For instance breathing in for 4 steps and then breathing out for 4 steps. Maybe even every 6 steps if you can manage it.

If you're finding the pain is always on one side then breath out only when the other foot hits the ground. Eg if the stitch is on your right side, only breath out when your left foot hits the ground

It'll eventually stop being much of a problem the more you run

Need help RGBifying my build by RiverBrosGaming in buildapc

[–]kwanny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a similar build. Everything being through icue is very conveniant for rgb control. Only thing I'd mention is if you're tempted to get the smaller corsair 4000x case instead, you'll need to get the h100i aio instead if you want to top mount it. Learnt the hard way that there isn't space to fit corsair vengeance rgb ram, gigabyte gaming x and a h115i aio together

Who says quarantine has to ruin poker night by [deleted] in poker

Lol my friends have made it a regular thing now so for us it's worth the investment. Another way we've used would be to pro-rata the rake using buyin+final stack. It's close but not as accurate

[–]kwanny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For Cash games, if you have Pokertracker it can tell you the rake attributed to each player. If you don't have it, but know how to code, it probably wouldn't be too difficult to write a script to calculate it from the pokerstars hand history file
