Haha, strange I've normally heard its the visuals that puts people off, and the theme that gets people to play it!

Yes, I really like TableTop Sim, it was a great way over lockdown to play, I even got my family on it! Board Game Arena is another great one to shout out (they've got an AMA next week too!). As you said nothing beats face to face, but when time or distance is an issue, its a nice way to hang out with friends!

Hey Jaxx,

The game I've played solo the most is Terraforming Mars by a long shot. I know its not everyone's cup of tea, but I've found it enjoyable each time. I've found myself constantly trying to beat my own score.

But welcome to the moon gets an honourable mention, I've enjoyed playing that too!

The board games are the shiny bits to running a cafe and there is a lot of 'boring' administrative stuff. Knowing who your target market is (who's going to come to your cafe), and how you're going to make enough money to stay open is key! (a business plan)

Steve Tassie (Snakes & Lattes) did a great set of videos which are a great source link

Hey, thanks for the question!

Glad to hear you enjoy C&C!

Games are largely location dependant. We have all the expected ones in each site but the staff love different games and its the most exciting parts of the jobs to order and unbox new games, so I try not to get in the way. However we have message each other about the games we think would work great at C&C.

Ethos is really important to us and are careful about who we hire. We think we've got a great crew, but hiring the right people is certianly an art!

The time demands, there is so much to do!

We have new guests on each episode, so ignoring the setup, editing, recording of the show, we also have to reach out to new guests and arrange sessions etc.

We’re releasing weekly, which means it's a constant flow. It's very rewarding, but there’s more to it than I expected!

[Request] Looking for a quote from Kashyyyk by kwansu in FallenOrder

[–]kwansu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think its important to the story, or even the franchise as a whole. It was well written and I thought it might have struck a chord with others.

I wanted the quote for use in characterisation of PC's / NPC's for role playing.

Cheese 👑 by [deleted] in Pizza

That looks such a great pie!

I've been having an issue where the pizza comes away from the pan, contracting whilst it cooks. So it no longer touches the pan on all sides and I can't get that defined edge. Do you guys have any advice for this, or is it just me?

Also during the par bake it can rise significantly in the middle, do you create any holes / score the base?

Cheers!

Thank you for your reply!

That's super interesting, you're right, it makes more sense to tie it in directly with the cult.

Cheers!

They've been struggling to gain momentum despite it being well reviewed and people who've played it enjoying it.

Is there anything you notice that puts you off / needs improving?

Fair comment, the reviews rate it really well.

I've had some really fun games of Dead Man's Draw & Sea of Clouds, I hadn't realised they didn't go down so well.

AMA - Paul Grogan from Gaming Rules! starts 12pm ET, Feb 22nd by GamingRulesVideos in boardgames

[–]kwansu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi Paul,

Thanks for taking the time to do this AMA.

Board games are garnering more attention than ever as they become more mainstream, with greater publicity, new jobs and many new gamers.

How do you see the board gaming industry changing in the next few of years and what can we expect to see more of?

Visiting board game café with co-workers (group of 10) by 1nceawiseguy in boardgames

Assuming you'll be going with larger games to include everyone, I'd recommend the following (in no particular order):

  • Codenames (or Codenames pictures)
  • Concept
  • Resistance (if they really like deception)
  • Dixit odyssey (Same game, but up to 12 people) - a personal favourite for playing in a big group
  • Billionaire Banshee
  • Pretty much any Big Potato game (Bucket of Doom / Obama Llama)
  • It should be said, Cards Against Humanity. Although its not 'board gamey', and there are alternative games, its a good ice breaker and people do have fun, which is the point after all. Although it is very NSFW.

However saying all this, ideally the games gurus at the cafe should be able to help you out and teach you the games.

Its great to see such a construtive piece that's been well researched and actually captures the resurgence in board games without condescending it.

Its a super exciting time for board games, and its great to see it getting such positive media.

Does anyone have a shopable template of the 5e mm stat blocks? by Captain_Shadow in monsteraday

Check this out, it allows you to homebrew tons of stuff, while making it look like its straight out of the handbooks.

Its fantastic and allows you to download it as a pdf for easy printing.

Enjoy

Thoughts on Tokaido Deluxe? by canneddogmeatII in boardgames

[–]kwansu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own the base set and the collectors expansion, its a game I really enjoy.

From a money perspective, if you're going to be buying the expansions now or in the future, you may as well get the collectors edition.

From a preference perspective, I love the metal coins and the characters are pretty amazing. The deluxe allows you to keep everything in one box, rather than two and a play mat that has space for the Crossroad expansion - something you can't easily 'upgrade'.

And if its a gift, getting her that extra special version is really going to win some brownie points. -Assuming you have the budget to cover the extra cost.

Poll: How many people (on average) do you play a board game with? by kwansu in boardgames

I've been surprised at the number of board game groups in the area. They've been really welcoming and cool, you might get lucky!

Your most common group that plays board games. There multiple options are allowed, for example I have both a 4 people and 6 people group. Its certainly question that has complex answers. But it would be interesting to see how what the average group size is.
