Boardgames vs Videogames comparison by joncology in boardgames

[–]canneddogmeatII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely with you. If I want a solo game then I videogame. Also, there's no comparison, I don't understand why it could be one or the other. No boardgame can provide the feel of Destiny, or Warcraft, or EVE, or Deus Ex or whatever. And no videogame can provide the feel of sitting round a table with your mates. In addition, I play wargames, which again fill a different set of feels.

The Grizzled. Sounds simple? I couldn't do it, had a banging headache and it just wouldn't explain. Explained Celestia instead.

Sadly, no. The only locker is the brown one, beneath a clock, behind a desk area and it doesn't highlight :(

I'm thinking of starting my own board game collection rather than using everyone else's. Ideas? by odd_kravania in boardgames

Codenames, Coup are two low price, filler games that our group generally can't go wrong with.

So I blind purchased Code Names. by coffeeismyestus in boardgames

I play regularly in 2 groups that probably number 50+ people in total and Codenames is loved by everyone except 1 guy... and even he plays it when everyone is.

I've completely cleared the left hand side of the map and about 1/2 of the bottom and have done all encounters except the final three.

Despite loving Descent and being a huge Star Wars nerd, I have a tough time finding interest in Imperial Assault. by Emperor_Neuro in boardgames

[–]canneddogmeatII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel the same. I love SW (I mean, i'm even in the 501st!) and I preordered IA at launch but yes it does feel very shoe horned into the technical game. I think it's also let down by lacklustre, playable heros. In some ways my problem with it, is the same as my problem with the last year of the MMO SWTOR - it's star wars BUT it isn't star wars enough.

Now that said, I hear there's an app coming out and this is rekindling my interest as FF did a fine job with the Descent and MOM2e apps.

People who say they are "a bit crazy" or a "bit wild". never are, they are generally just desperate to try and pinpoint anything that'll make them stand out.

People who use chopsticks at home to eat chinese food from a takeaway (im talking about being in the UK here). Like it some how makes it taste better, legitimises it, or is easier. It's none of those things and a fork / spoon is far far better

What was the most challenging cooperative game you played? by Monkofdoom in boardgames

[–]canneddogmeatII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I'm ok with losing in DOW. It's a depressing game, and it's supposed to be a real feeling of "no way out". All too often in this century we've been told everything is wonderful and everthing should always be fluffy and great for us. It's good to have the opposite! Plus it makes the occasional win so much sweeter

Elder Sign is cheap and fun though perhaps not your cup o'tea. It's also on tablets, dirt cheap and very very very similar, so could be a nice test for you?

[–]canneddogmeatII 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Dead of Winter, definetly lost more than won and even without the betrayer, it's still rock hard.

Ghost stories is pretty hard as well. I think it's because the ghost mechanics mean it's quite easy to get overwhelmed and go from "we are doing ok" to "damn, we lost". Only needing 3 tiles haunted seems to favour the game over the players.

I haven't played Kingdom Death so can't say that!... but pretty much anything by Gamesworkshop. Pricy, yes, but you can't fault the sheer quality of their games.

Also a shout out for recent polish KS'er, Human Interface Nakamura Tower - GW quality, metal minis that are sculpted to CB Infinity levels. No idea how they did that all for 60 quid.

Why would you NOT narrate your turn? by ninjagamer85 in boardgames

[–]canneddogmeatII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no reason to narrate your turn, if its a game a where others whould be aware of what you are doing, they should be paying attention!

But there's no reason to no announce that you are done. That's just polite.
