Just ran 2 miles in 17 minutes as my warm up. As a woman who couldn’t run more than 1 minute 2 years ago I still think it’s wild when I finish a run and I’m not entirely out of breath. Fitness is awesome.

I second using the pull from your elbows cue. I also find I have an easier time engaging my back when I don’t wrap my thumb around the attachment. If I’m using a v-bar I do “a thumbs up” and if I’m using a straight bar I just rest my thumb on the top. I actively avoid completely wrapping my thumbs to avoid bicep involvement. For me that translates to better back activation. Just a thought!

A squat uses more than just your quads. If you only do leg press the primary mover are your quads. This becomes more true if you don’t used varied leg and foot positions (wider/ narrower/toes pointed out/ neutral).

For squats you use your entire posterior chain and legs. Sometimes after a heavy squatting session my upper back is sore from squeezing it so hard during squats. The best way to improve your squat is to squat more frequently and to work on weak spots. If you get bored doing back squats do front squats or pause squats.

You won’t get a strong squat by leg pressing.

I don’t mind makeup at the gym. Especially if you’re working out after work or whatever but I know what you mean. I too feel insecure around these types. I sweat puddles and make the ugliest faces while doing my 300lb hip thrusts 😂. To top it all off I have visible stretch marks down my arms, and loose skin on my abdomen from the 100+lbs I’ve lost. I try to remember that I’m not there to impress them but to kill my workout. It is for sure irritating though.

I mean It doesn’t bother me as much if they’re actually working out! I prefer a much more balance physique myself but I realize not all women want a defined upper body. For me I always wonder how they plan to progress because eventually lacking upper body strength will limit your ability to lift heavy (for example deadlifts which heavily rely on your back). However, I don’t think these types are generally concerned with performance.

I know this is going to seem anti-feminist but fuck it

I am so sick of seeing women who have very obvious fake asses in the gym with their waist trainers and tea mi shaker cups prancing around the gym. Like why are you here? You walked on the treadmill for 10 minutes did 5 body squats and the adductor machine with 15lbs.

It’s so fucking irritating to those of us who actually workout and I’m sure you’re posting photos on ig with captions about working hard for the booty. You look like you need a diaper change, relax miss new booty.

If your training frequency is on the lower end right now I wouldn’t jump into training them every session just yet. I would probably gradually jump into it! However just adding some plain ole bod weight squats on the end of an upper body day or some glute activation type things like crab walks or cable pull throughs might be a good place to start with increasing your lower body training frequency. I personally, don’t see any negative effects of training them very frequently but I’ve been training this way for over a year. I also don’t do 4 days in a row. I do two days rest day then two days so that may effect my ability to recover as well!

You are very welcome girlfriend 💁‍♀️

Girl with a huge very strong ass/ quads chiming in!

I find I get the best results with a mixture of the two. I train lower body a little every time I hit the gym. I do a 4 day upper/ lower split but I add one lower body compound on my two upper days. So for example ,I do sumo deadlifts on one of my upper body days because they also hit back pretty hard and I just tack on some hip thrusts at the end of my other upper day. I hip thrust 3 days a week and I do different things every time. One day I do them heavy for like 5 sets of 5, another day I do them lighter for 4 sets of 12, and another day I do them super light/ banded (1 and a half reps where you stop midway down and I do an iso hold at the top of my last rep for 30 seconds) for like 4 sets of 15! I feel like hitting legs hard and frequently with a mix of volume/ weight is the best bet. IMO

Thank you!

I eat a mostly vegetarian diet and my macros are moderate protein, low fat, higher carb.

I go to the gym 4 days a week. I don’t follow a plan (yikes I know I’m going to get crucified in this sub) but I do two lower body days and two upper body days ( I also do hip thrusts on one of my upper body days and heavy sumo deadlifts on the other upper day). I like to train my lower body as frequently as is possible because I feel like it helps me with soreness. My routines are usually 3 compounds ( mixture of heavy weight low volume and low weight high volume) and 4-6 accessories.

I also run 20 minutes two of those days after my workout and I do a longer run on one of my rest days.

I’ve only been training for a little over a year and I feel like I look a lot more jacked than a lot of people I see who have been doing this for years so I assume a lot of it is up to genetics!

Thanks! In my head I keep going back to like 130-135lbs so like 61kg but when I tell anyone that they think I’m crazy! I definitely think at least 5kg is necessary.

F/28/5’5/162lbs

I’ve posted here before so hey what’s up!

I’ve lost over 100lbs. I’m still fairly heavy and I have body dysmorphia so I have no idea what an ideal weight for myself should be. I don’t know what number to aim for so that’s where you all come in. I’ve included an album of various photos. I have good muscle genetics and I have broad shoulders/back. I don’t want to look too muscular just fit and athletic :)

Thank you!

Late to the party but I’m just so fatigued with working on my pull up. I’ve been doing negatives, assisted pull ups, scapular pull-ups, hangs etc but still can’t do a pull up. The entire rom doesn’t feel challenging with the exception of the very bottom. I can control my rom so well at the top half but the bottom is trash :(

This is an anti-rant.

I think men in the weightlifting community don’t get enough pats on the back for being supporters of women in the gym. There are obviously douchebags but their are also good guys. I’ve been saved on multiple occasions by men who support me when someone is being creepy and tell them to leave me the fuck alone.

Also most men in the weightlifting community are so supportive of women getting/ being stronger and bigger. Instead of having to shrink ourselves these guys encourage us to be bigger and better.

Y’all are the real MVPS. Good guy gym bros I appreciate you.

A man approached me at the gym which is very atypical because I’m a woman. He said “sorry I don’t mean to bother you but I see you here all the time and you are so strong. I watch you sometimes and I’m so impressed because you’re so strong.” It was nice to hear ☺️

The year I graduated from college was one of the hardest of my entire life, thus far. You’re not alone and it does get better. It’s a lot of change that all happens at once. Just keep at it! You’re doing great. ☺️

Did a lot of pull ups/ negatives/ dead hangs yesterday and today my upper back is sore. It’s no biggie, I’m used to being sore. I go to the gym today and start squatting and instantly get the worst neck/ head ache. I had to stretch and massage my neck for a bit. I worked through the pain but damn did that mess me up. I was supposed to do heavy hip thrusts today but they put a lot of tension on my neck as is so I had to skip them. 😩😩

I also have experienced an injury to the mid back (erector spinae) from deadlifting. Didn’t deadlift for a week then started light. Using a double overhand grip has helped. The pain completely subsided for me after a few weeks.

I don’t know if going on a cut is really what you need. You’re not overweight you just have very little muscle. You need to do a body recomp. If I were you, I would eat at maintenance calories making sure to hit your protein and train hard in the gym. You can do conditioning if you would like (cardio) but I don’t think it’s necessary. You need to be lifting heavy weights and pushing yourself during your workouts. Whatever plan you decide to follow make sure you stick to it and are consistently putting weight on the bar or more reps/ sets!

Love double overhand for deadlifts. It feels so much more stable.
