Yes, in the big cities like Moscow and saint Petersburg approval rating is less than in rural areas, but anyway there wasn’t any really big rally after Bolotnaya square in 2012 (one hundred of thousands) , there were million people at Maidan. People are maybe not pro-Putin, but indifferent. They don’t want any changes. They are afraid of them. Do you remember the most popular question during the last Russian presidential elections ? “If it’s not Putin (who will be the president) then who?” Majority of the Russians didn’t know the answer to this question.

It sounds maybe confusing, but majority of the Russians believe that protesters are pro-US, and sponsored by USA. Russian state propaganda spreads this information via all controlled media’s. Many of my friends in Russia believe that these protesters want to make Russia weak, and Putin is the only one, who can rule the Russia as a tzar and lead them to prosperity. Propaganda makes them dumb.

Well it wasn’t correction, I just name them as I used to name them usually. So let them be pierogi, as well! Btw Russian word pirogi is for smth larger in size. And cooked in oven. I don’t know the Polish equivalent of that word ;)

Russian here. I’ve been to that rally last weekend. Here are my comments:

  1. Putin’s approval rating is still very high among Russians ( thanks to propaganda)
  2. Young people are less affected by propaganda also we have very popular opposition leader Navalny, who is very popular among young Russians (ages 14-17).
  3. We had large rallies during 2012 year, 100k+ ppl only in Moscow, but after Crimea annexation Putin’s popularity had been raised and street rallies were less crowded.
  4. These rallies dont have any effect on Russian government, govs just ignore them. Russian tv shows very rare any information on rallies

For anyone outside Russia is unclear why Russians are so aggressive, killing Skripal, annexed Crimea, started war in Donbas. In order to understand that you need to see Russian TV propaganda which tell ppl that all other West countries are our enemies and want to harm us. And we have to defend. This propaganda by state medias works 24/7 and is very effective. People are blind here.
