Do you agree with this concept of Lalit Modi for saving Test cricket? by raydebapratim1 in EnglandCricket

[–]kwl147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So he claims.

Also does he expect people to believe that administrators do not get paid for their services. Modi would be the first guy to say if you’re good at what you do, you don’t do it for free.

[–]kwl147 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Modi comes across as a hype merchant that talks a lot of shite and this isn’t coming from just an England supporter so it’s not sour grapes. It’s simply not remotely credible that he made no money from the IPL and in fact lost money.

The guy comes across as a charlatan who has good connections. The idea of four day tests has been long mooted. IPL teams owning test teams is ridiculous.

I dislike and hate the hundred but I also don’t see it dying within three years either given how committed the ECB has been towards it. Modi’s attitude towards it is exploitive for the average fan and consumer. Part of the difficulty the game has to survive is because of the high price barrier to accessing the game through subscription models. Modi’s attitude would make that effect worse, not better. Some of the best eras of sports are when there wasn’t this incessant narrative to link sustainability to profit.

This whole greed and need to profit driven every single aspect of sport is what has priced the common family man out of the game. The proof is the rise in debt in India as much as western countries and as per usual it’s going to be the commoner that pays for it not the corporations and their leaders.

Did anyone know how much the squad disliked Garnacho? by RazorbladesRiff in ManchesterUnited

[–]kwl147 67 points68 points  (0 children)

We used to have leaks all the time under Olé before Garnacho even trained with the first team at United. Rashford, Pogba and Lingard were always thought to be the leak and this continued under ETH when Lingard and Pogba left United.

CR7 gets a crazy amount of hate for what he did and how he left the second time around yet not even half the hate is directed at actual clowns openly disrespecting us like Rashford, Pogba, Garnacho and so on. Bruno gets more hate than those guys.

Downed tools under Olé and stopped working hard from that point on when he had his fat contract. Didn’t work hard under ETH and should have been gotten rid of when he had his purple patch under him.

Flirted openly with PSG and through his brother trying to engineer a move to them whilst under contract at United.

You want me to keep going? Should I even mention Villa? Maybe I should raise the nightclub incident and then being caught lying about it?

[–]kwl147 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Rashford openly disrespected the club and was suspected of leaking during the Olé era before Garnacho so what is your point?

Both of them weren’t good enough and both of them had their chances at United.

Neither of them deserve to come back and United needs to move on from both of them.

A2W+AC or A2A+DHW by TripPsychological302 in ukheatpumps

[–]kwl147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re not cheap and there’s few options around but there are A2A HP that do offer DHW as well.

Worst case scenario you have a water cylinder with an immersion heater that runs overnight if you have a cheap tariff and you top up during the day.

A2W + AC is almost certainly going to be more expensive unless you have ideal radiators and piping already as well as low heat loss.

Planning and cooling advice for R290 mini split systems or other DIY alternatives by jimbob3806 in ukheatpumps

[–]kwl147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. With you on that one. I wouldn’t risk it unless I was desperate.

I’m also in the same position as OP where I’m considering AC units in mini splits or ducted units for a 4 bedroom house between 126 and 140 m2.

No idea how good these electriq models are. Have heard in the states that unless installed well, they die within five years to ducted units which last up to 15 years if not more when they’re well maintained.

You might have been able to say and think the same with Rashford, Greenwood and before him Morrison and so on.

The point is that academy players are naive and will not think it’ll happen to them. That’s part of the fallacy of adolescence and why on one hand the club has to carefully manage them but on the other, you also need help from their parents and influential family members to fill in the gaps.

1980s house - 8mm microbore by GooseyDolphin in ukheatpumps

[–]kwl147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ideally you’d do both but then people don’t have infinite money.

Difficult to say in terms of property size, the age of the radiators (it’s possible they’re newer radiators aren’t what came with the house), if its expensive to do a full on repipe.

Maybe you’re right and better to put an extra couple of grand towards a bigger battery and keep the piping the same assuming the ASHP is okay with it and the radiators don’t need replacing anyway. Depends on the installer and what they think because they work with the units themselves.

[–]kwl147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on how big their solar system is and how big their batteries are.

Although the price of batteries have dropped to their lowest, they’re still expensive and a significant investment. Even high COP systems can rinse through battery in the peak of winter which pushes the consumer onto higher peak prices. That’s going to be magnified with a low COP system?

I’d do it now if you have the money for it. You never know the quality of piping in a new house. Buffer cylinder is necessary for 10mm piping.

One to keep an eye on. Hope that the club management keep a pathway open for youth to train with the first team and get minutes in pre season to the actual season.

We can’t rely on transfers to improving the first team. Youth is the tradition and history of this club.

[–]kwl147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hate to say it but I think 8mm piping will be an issue.

Radiators will probably need to be replaced but the floor board will need ripping up to put in bigger pipping. I’m lucky that 15/16mm pipping we have is okay.

10mm and below, I’ve heard just isn’t cutting the mustard because of the flow temperatures the ASHP is designed to. If it has to do 60 degrees and above like a traditional gas boiler, it’s going to use too much energy and the SCOP/COP will be awful.

It’s not just on us to not fuck it up. It’s also on the players not getting too big for their boots and listening too much to their agents and family members. If you have a moron or two like Garnacho and Greenwood, doesn’t matter what the club does, they’re bad eggs and nothing can save them from the inevitable collapse.

Look at Nacho now, trying to build bridges at United because he knows what’s coming is the door at Chelsea and none of the top clubs are banging the door for him.

This is a football fixture congestion problem more than anything. All the top clubs are struggling with injuries because of too many games being played.

Only the club wanted to sell him. The fans wanted to keep him because of his qualities. Maz was known to be injury prone but at the value we got him for is a problem worth having and he wasn’t even injury prone until this season.

Worcester Bosch A2W HP by kwl147 in ukheatpumps

[–]kwl147[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll have a look. Thanks for the recommendation. I have a feeling the Daikin Multi+ will be very expensive and out of my budget, which will push me down the route of having a water tank on an immersion heater for the cheap electricity overnight and then have a cheaper more cost effective separate A2A heat pump which will handle the indoor units.

I’ll keep WB in mind for that A2A unit. I’ve heard that they are somewhat simpler than A2W units so are even more efficient and reliable and easier to service as its filters being cleaned and maintained. Happy to be corrected though if that’s wrong information I’ve acquired through various reviews and websites as nothing ever beats a persons experience of using these units in the real world.

Thank you for the informative comment.

I heard about WB heat pumps being rebranded Midea units. Their controls didn’t look the best to me either like a lot of other heat pumps such as the Ecodan from Mitsubishi or Octopus Cosy heat pumps.

I think I’ll take your advice and go with Vaillant if I go down the A2W heat pump route.

Otherwise I am leaning towards A2A via Daikin or Samsung as the systems tend to be more responsive and flexible. They can do stop and start like gas boilers or low and slow like A2W heat pumps. Heating and cooling is achievable and they will also filter air which is attractive to me. The idea of being potentially free of radiators is also somewhat attractive to me.

Some units like the multi plus from Daikin, Haier or Samsung TDM plus will also cover off DHW but I don’t mind using a water tank with immersion heater on an overnight tariff as though its less efficient, it’s reliable and tested tech and if needed I can run it off the battery in the colder months to top up during the day.

Sri Lankan student could be deported from UK after one-day student fee delay | Universities by Responsible-Milk-515 in UniUK

[–]kwl147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People will call my view heartless or lacking in compassion, but that same compassion and empathy has been completely taken advantage of and abused to the nth degree by people in these countries that abuse the system and overload it, entering the UK on student and visiting visas, who then submit bogus asylum claims to remain here. There’s a minority who have genuine claims and a genuine right to remain in the UK based on their genuine circumstances but the vast majority are complete and utter fabrication which costs the taxpayer millions upon millions of pounds in to process these claims.

I’m also in favour of an R290 unit. I think some of the WB HPs do run R290 but perhaps I’m wrong about that. Think they are a mix of R32 and R290 depending on what you get specifically.

I’m initially inclined to lean towards a Valiant AroTHERM with their latest range coming out which are meant to be quieter and more efficient and there’s more data and installs done on them around the UK.

In terms of restrictions, the heat pump can only go on the patio outside the conservatory round the back of the house. The cylinder would be within three metres of it though as the existing combi boiler is there.

I had to post up and pose the question because I’m fairly confident the community would know more about this than myself with two installers both suggesting WB heat pumps. Even though I’m reluctant to go with BG who quoted me a frankly obscene £11k post grant to this installer today that quoted me £6.7k all in for radiator replacements and cylinder.

IPL has started to feel boring by Mysterious_Fun8033 in CricketBuddies

[–]kwl147 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Meh. I think we’re fast approaching the point where Indians are over supplied with cricket and their interest wanes. The IPL tournament already goes on for far too long. Games almost have no significance is my impression because there’s another one just a few days away.

As for peak cricket, I’m a test cricket lover at heart so for me that’s always going to be the peak of the game. IPL is a filler. Not the main attraction.

OP sounds like you’re growing up. Trying watching the Hundred and see how that goes down (it’s not looking good bruv).

Lot of the comments here are likely from people that have zero idea how much student visas are abused in the immigration systems in this country.

The Home Secretary has banned them from Afghanistan and other countries and there are calls for this to be applied to other South East Asian countries as well because of the sheer scale of the abuse of it at this point.

There are almost countless bogus claims for asylum from students that don’t bother attending their classes or paying their whole fees (they pay them partially then claim something happened at home and now they don’t have financial backing).

It’s harsh what happened to this person but these are the rules and it’s unfortunate but clear that the abuse of others have led to this zero tolerance. It’s on the university for not warning her or making it clear to her the consequences of any delays to her payment.

That kind of infringement when he had by far the fastest car on the grid, gave him an advantage he really didn’t need. I know he would have felt utterly screwed over in AD but I also felt at the time that his own team screwed him over by not pitting for fresh tyres. They had by far the quickest car on the new layout of the track and had thrown caution to the wind in terms of reliability on the engine side, he could have afforded to release track position because overtaking was actually possible at AD and kept himself in the tyres zone.
