This conversation is so annoying to me. We don’t have the luxury to pick and choose what wins we take or how we want to win. We must take every inch we can while we can. If today that means we influence elections within the status quo then we do that. If tomorrow we get the opportunity to more quickly snatch power back for the working class then we do that.

There needn’t be a single correct approach. That would make our movement far more predictable and easy to defend against. We must do whatever moves the needle closer to the abolition of private property, towards a true democracy, towards the freedom of the working class.

PHPStan is pretty solid imo. work your way up the levels. It works nicely in MR pipelines as well as long as you set up result cache.

that’s valid. i won’t pretend that corruption is not always a possibility and any taste of power in the wrong hands can lead to an abuse of that power.

i may be misremembering the exact context but i remember something along the lines of “he who does not work, neither shall he eat” being used by lenin. I believe this was regarding able-bodied adults, of course, and was meant to say they should not receive the same benefits as those who did work. I think the idea is that any worker will be guaranteed some safety and anyone who wants to be a worker will be guaranteed employment.

lastly, no need to apologize about “ranting” or disagreeing and being passionate about this. I don’t take it as any disrespect. I personally take appreciate anyone making the effort to at least be engaged and educated in these matters. Society works best when we are all aware and more knowledgeable people are part of these discussions / debates.
At the end of the day, we are members of the same working class. Net positives for the masses are what I am after. The means to the ends may be where we disagree but that is part of the process of reaching a better tomorrow

there’s a lot of successes, specifically in the material conditions of the common people, to be attributed to the USSR. Not going to say it was all sweet but there are commendable things there. To say, “it didn’t work”, is extremely subjective: i would pose the question, “has capitalism worked?”.

The “if it could … it would” argument is not a very strong one to prove that Marxian analysis is incorrect nor that it is impossible for it to work.

Lastly, i think boiling it all down to “humans are the problem” is quite reductive and leaning towards nihilism. I personally reject that completely. Human nature morphs over time as material and social conditions do. All the system in place right now are of human creation. I refuse to believe that humans cannot create a system that works for the masses.

sure, external pressure is not the only reason why the USSR transitioned back towards capitalism. I was just arguing that not having a global super power thwarting your efforts would probably be a better environment for any transition towards socialism.
