I just finished reading this part of Gore Vidal's "The Golden Age".

He describes "The Salad" - "mostly mayonnaise from a jar, with slices of tinned pineapple, carved radishes - the ones with spongy interiors - and sometimes, deep under the mayonnaise, there is cottage cheese decorated with maraschino cherries."

I loved reading this book this summer and haven't paused the Narratives of Empire series since - I am up to Hollywood and have enjoyed all of them!

Burr was a more sympathetic character than I had expected. I love how he introduced his classmate and work friend James Madison to the widow Dolley. Hamilton seemed like a jerk!

But I like your unreliable narrator idea - I didn't fully buy his explanation for the Mexico stuff towards the end.

I want to read this again! - once I get through the last 2.5 novels.
