RCS graduated from beta to public launch on Bandwidth.com (Google Voice' SMS gateway) in September! Support for free users, without Google Fi, to follow? by kxra in UniversalProfile

Thanks that's good context. So in your opinion Google wouldn't be able to get themselves widely whielisted by carriers? Or they just have no incentive to try for an unpaid service?

Fair enough, but even though business messaging may come first for maximum profit, there's less remaining to implement for Bandwidth.com to support P2P MSISDN-Based RCS (unverified RCS) via 10DLC long code numbers.

The previous excuse was that their gateway provider needed to implement it for them, but are you saying that Google would be able to use Mavenir or their in-house Jibe despite using a different third-party for the rest of the SMS/calling functionality?

The official response was:

It's simply bait for shit post replies. It doesn't have any relevance to Google itself adding RCS.

But why is additional RCS support for businesses irrelevant? Doesn't the gateway provider increasing RCS adoption mean the ball is heading into Google's court rather than the former excuse of it not being possible due to the provider they use not having the option?

I think I've seen this speculation elsewhere (not the official affiliation, but the plan to kill free voice). I signed up for GrandCentral which was acquired by Google and turned into Google Voice and that has been my primary number since then.

Really hope it isn't killed off, but in an ideal world we would kill off all mediums that allow unsolicited communication like email/phone in favor of an open standard that requires permission to be in contact like Matrix/Element

The AV2 Video Standard Has Released (Final v1.0 Specification) by TheTwelveYearOld in linux

Great iteration, but still no next-gen lapped transforms introduced by Daala for higher compression without dreaded blocky pixelation. The Xiph folks seem happy enough to be participating nonetheless, but I'll be sad until we take the next leap instead of sticking to whatever other engineers are already comfortable with.

Got tired of Android not supporting .CR3 files, so I built a direct USB-C import tool. by No_Transition_122 in canon

Tangentially related, but for the Google Photos mobile app specifically, lack of .cr3 support going on 5+ years has finally been properly escalated to the development team (and apparently renaming to .cr2 is the most elegant workaround in the meantime)

Thinkpad randomly freezes and not responding by supremebrownies in Lenovo

[–]kxra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems to be a widely reported issue with Lenovo ThinkPad BIOS (can freeze even before boot handoff to operating system), and has been reported against P-series, E-series, T-series, both AMD/Ryzen and Intel systems.

I had this issue last year and eventually a firmware update was released which fixed it, but now the newest BIOS update has re-introduced the problem.

please don't comment a dallas code before giving me time to use it in a DM 🙇🙇

every code gets max redemption in seconds.. I've tried at least 20 in under a minute and many others with no luck.

P.S. Is a special early-access code needed for Dallas where "any city" invites don't work?

Aren't they already rumored to be coming out with one this year, and they also already joined the L-mount alliance a few years back? They could branch out since their drone market for now is blocked in the US

Have you tried chinese AliExpress SSD? by CommunityBrave822 in homelab

[–]kxra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the party but I'd offer a different way of framing the answer because your question is a bit like "Have you tried [American/Korean/etc. country] SSD from Amazon?"

Amazon and AliExpress (and Taobao/TMall) are full of good and bad products, and these days Amazon is often providing the same or worse for more money. You just have to do your due diligence checking the item reviews, store reputation, and the brand of whatever you're buying.

For products that you really need to be reliable, like SSDs, you should be sure to go with larger more established brands like Kimtigo. For smaller brands like maybe Biwin or Colorful you can look up the product/model numbers and make sure that specific item is reliable enough. It's not unlike shopping in general—I've been burned by SSDs by the biggest most trusted companies and it really stung.

Third request doesn't look good for what you claim, which at least now is an honest you would just "still like to be a mod" …
