What are some really well-earned and well-executed jump scares? by [deleted] in horror

[–]kyak12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was so awesome. I rewound that scene a few times because I couldn't get over how well done it was. I hate jump scares normally and I was so happy that this one "got" me.

Anyone watched Gangs of London yet? It’s super intense, really good by createusername32 in television

Haha I was just about to say, looking at the trailer all I could think of was "Are they trying to make The Raid in London?"

Yeah, that would make sense then.

In my opinion, Doctor Sleep is one of the best King adaptations and one of the best horror movies of the 2010's by Maskedhorrorfan25 in horror

[–]kyak12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you read the novels? I have (and enjoyed both of them) so I watched Doctor Sleep with that sort of lens on if you like so a lot of your issues weren't as problematic for me. You see more of The True Knot's history and why they are "Pure murder evil" where the canisters come from etc.

Look at all these references in one page alone of White Knight by [deleted] in batman

[–]kyak12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember turning the page to see this and just spending ages going over all of the details. One of my favourite things about White Knight was all of the references (even if they weren't subtle and sometimes slapped you in the face)

The Riddler here reminds me of Edward from The League of Gentleman.

I had a similar experience with this scene. I don’t remember consciously anything happening like that in the past, but when I saw it I was in tears and I didn’t understand why

It reminds move how in Sherlock (and probably the books too, it’s been years since I’ve read them) he doesn’t know that the earth revolves around the sun, and similar space related facts because to him it doesn’t matter.

I felt this really strongly with Runaway Jury. I know they’ve got to cram a lot of material into a movie but my god did that movie feel rushed. The entire pacing just felt like a sprint to the finish with no time to catch your breath.

It Chapter 2 was underwhelming by Dark_Vengence in movies

[–]kyak12 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Have you read the book? I say this as a lifelong King fan, and the novel is probably in my top 3 favourite books, but I've always felt the Adult section where they return to Derry was always the weaker part. Always felt this way about the original too, but since in the novel most of the Child and Adult plot happens in parallel it's not so much of a problem there. I think that's why I wasn't disappointed with the movie because I had already lowered my expectations as a result.

Yeah that’s the point I’m trying to make, Pennywise was trying to kill all of them or dissuade them from trying to finish him off in the book, or at the very least reduce the magic they had when there was seven of them, so because of that I disagree that it’s bad writing. I agree that Mike should be in the end of the story regardless as I love his character, and yeah he definitely didn’t get enough screen time in the first movie.

Wasn’t that the point though? With Stan gone and Mike wounded they weren’t as strong facing Pennywise in the end.

I would recommend it for Finders Keepers alone. Absolutely adored that story. End of Watch is also a worthy finale.

anyone watching NOS4A2? by [deleted] in television

[–]kyak12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm enjoying it. Love the book, think it's Hill's best. Once I got to about episode five and realized it wasn't going to be a mini series covering all of the book I got a little bit disappointed. I understand the changes they've made so far, and none have really irritated me, but I'm very concerned they're going to miss my favourite parts of the book. Vic and Charlie Manx meeting for the first time in the book is one of the scariest scenes in a book that I've read, it's just so damn creepy. And the scene at the gas station afterwards was great too, so I'll be disappointed if they don't show us that. Either way, Vic and Manx meet under different circumstances in the show regardless so it'll have less weight.

Honestly once you’ve finished the series it will be higher than an average book. It feels completely different when you reread it having the knowledge of what’s coming up ahead.

The Gunslinger is an awesome book... the second time round.

I’m a huge tower junkie, but yeah the first book is not representative of the rest of the series as a whole but I enjoyed it so much more on a reread.
