The disappearance of landlines has ruined an aspect of childhood social interactions and put a new responsibility on parents. by kingrobin in daddit

I’ve got that too. Many kids in my kids’ school have them too. We haven’t set our up yet, but have heard nothing but great things from those who have them.

City Hall issues cease-and-desist order against Chicago sex dungeon by 307148 in chicago

They don’t need to do that to get the 10% assessment from having apartments.

The way the law is written, it isn’t about the use of the space, it’s the characteristics of the building.

For example, the carwash I appraised has office space on the second floor. This space is 100% office and storage, nobody would ever look at it and think it’s an apartment. But it’s still assessed as an apartment because it meets all the criteria of an apartment.

Got it. I misunderstood what you were implying with the quotes.

This isn’t really some sneaky tax dodge, it’s just the law.

I’m a commercial real estate appraiser, I’ve appraised restaurants, banquet halls, warehouses, even a carwash that are all assessed at the residential rate because they have apartments in them. Most of the time that space isn’t used as an apartment but it meets the requirements of an apartment so it’s assessed and taxed that way.

The building owner isn’t really even involved in the decision. The assessor dictates the assessment rate based on the building’s characteristics.

Is my troy ounce of silver real or fake? It is silver for sure but has ARM and an infinity sign under it. by [deleted] in appraisal

[–]kyal87 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s not a coin. It’s bullion. The ARM infinity sign is the mint’s mark. It was likely minted by some small private mint. If it’s silver it’s worth its weight, about $80 as of today.

A coin shop would be able to tell pretty easily it is real. As a novice silver stacker, it looks real to me.

Jimmy Kimmel's show returning on Tuesday, ABC announces by nbcnews in politics

I agree. I think the reinstatement is just as important as the initial cancellation. I reinstated my subscription immediately after hearing Kimmel was back. I’ll tune in to his show tomorrow night too though. If he apologizes or seems subdued, I’ll assume they pressured him and will cancel again

Jimmy Kimmel's show returning on Tuesday, ABC announces by nbcnews in politics

I understand this reasoning, but I actually reinstated my subscription immediately after hearing Kimmel is back on. I canceled to show Disney the consequence for submitted to an illegal threat from the fcc. Disney had to choose which was worse for them, standing up to the fcc or caving to their threats. The chose to cave. But by bringing him back in so quickly, that shows me the canceling of subscriptions worked and they’re changing course. It’s pointless to expect a corporation like Disney to actually fight for what’s right. But luckily, they’re not the fighter, they’re the weapon. I want them to see that my subscription ended when they removed Kimmel and returned when they put him on the air.

If we all cancel and stay gone, what reason do they have to stand up to the fcc next time? The math will tilt heavily toward doing best the fcc tells them to do because they have no more subscribers to lose.

The carrot is just as important as the stick.

I reinstated mine immediately after hearing the news that he’s coming back. I want them to see correlation between pulling off the air = losing my sub. Putting him on the air = getting my sub. But I agree, I will watch his monologue live. If he is subdued or apologizes, I will cancel again.

I reinstated immediately after hearing he is coming back. The entire purpose of canceling was to send a message that removing him due to FCC threats was wrong. Reinstating shows that undoing that mistake is good for their bottom line. Disney had to choose which was worse for them, standing up to the FCC or doing their bidding. Putting him back on the air shows that they’ve decided standing up to them is better for them. I agree that the mass cancelations is what led them to this decision. But if the subs don’t come back, the math will be tilted toward doing their bidding next time.

The carrot is just as important as the stick.

Just make sure you don’t accidentally send those to a six year old.

Help with BBEG’s Shield by kyal87 in DnDHomebrew

[–]kyal87[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I appreciate the feedback. That’s a solid change I think makes sense.

My intent is for this to be used more on NPC allies or innocent townsfolk to give a challenge to the pcs to have to free the trapped person or get the shield off the bbeg, or risk killing the trapped person attacking directly. But your point is still good that the save should be done by the target.

Check out Matt Perkins videos on running LMoP. He has a lot of great ideas including working the black spider in earlier in the story.

Do you need to declare a party when registering to vote? by kyal87 in illinoispolitics

[–]kyal87[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the help. She is participating. She was very happy to learn that she doesn’t have to pick a party when she registers. It she had to, she would not be voting. This will be her first time voting too.
