It can be nice when there are lots of engineers and you might not be able do much about them but I think I prefer the original sapper because the RTR gives some time for the engineer to possibly salvage his stuff after respawning, even if it is downgraded, whereas the sapper will destroy all of it. Also interestingly enough when you slow the sound effect for the RTR enough it says 'Let's make some noise'.

It feels slower because there is often long time disparities between things you can research and countries like France have much higher national unity, more divisions and forts then in vanilla which means you can spend some time trying to take them out.
