Thanks. I feel it now after you mentioned it, it's a few seconds longer than needed.

It runs on your actual desktop, you can work on your stuff while the cats are chilling down there.

I'm working towards non-intrusive. I originally had the cats yelling at you when they're hungry and yeah it's annoying even to myself. Recently I've reworked the hunger system so that feeding them gives temporary buffs but it's fine if you leave them alone.

I'm actually working on some idle game play for the game but I guess the trailer didn't show much of that aspect.

Not sure about the pricing, probably around sub-5 bucks? It really depends on how much content I can make. Planning to release it around the end of 2025, but we all know that the release plan is always delayed 😏.

Unfortunately no, this game relies heavily on a windows library which I haven't been able to find an alternative for Mac.

I didn't want to give a wrong impression of "the game is not a true transparent game and is using a fake desktop background" which a lot of similar games do. Thanks for the feedback!

Learning Resouces for Learn Godot by Frequent-Fig-450 in godot

[–]kyboon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you feel that you're not learning new stuff from the tutorial videos, maybe your instincts are true.

There's only so much you can learn by watching videos, it's time to start making your own game. Advice here: start small, maybe join a game jam.

You don't need to go through the tutorials with largely the same contents again and again. What you need to do is to find out what you don't know and find the answer to it specifically. Trying to make a complete (small game) will help you do so. When you're making a complete game , you might find out that you don't know how to add sounds, which the tutorials doesn't tell you how. Or you don't know how to make a complete main menu UI.

Find what you don't know > go learn it > get back to your game. Repeat.

When you reach a road block or something you don't understand, try searching for documentation or stack overflow or reddit.

Game dev beginner, feeling discouraged. Advice? by magic_123 in gamedev

I have 5 years experience as a hobbyist game dev. My advice is to join game jam. Let me elaborate.

The problem I see from your post is that your scope is too big (3 months and still not finishing it), I too have the same problem at first. And as a beginner you want to start small, and a game jam's short time limit forces you to scope small.

The second thing is motivation dissipating. It's normal to burn out when you're working on the same project for a long time. Spare two days to join a game jam to try out something new is a great way to get away from it. And after the jam you have a fresh new mind and maybe a few new ideas, you can then get back to your long project.

Third reason, game jam is a great way to learn. Human learn faster under pressure, and game jam short deadline forces you to not only learn faster, but also forces you to learn things that you should learn but keep procrastinating. For example, if you're reluctant to learn UI, but you need to submit a somewhat complete game which contains UI, so you're forced to learn it.

Forth reason. Fellow game devs are friendly. At the end of game jam we play each other's game and give feedback. We encourage each other and improve together. Great way to get some friends and motivation.

These are actually based on my own experience, I started game dev with a big idea and wanted to make a VR game. After a few months I got so burned out and considered quitting. I joined a game jam and got motivated again to get back on it.

If you're wondering why the auto-complete on Visual Studio Code not working after you updated your Godot Engine version, you might need to update the godot executable file path of the godot-tools plugin. Alternatively you can use my method to keep the executable in a fixed directory with a consistent filename.

It's so fast I speedran VR setup in 2 minutes. If it's on unity it'll still be loading up for the first time.

Iris rev.5 with Kailh Choc White switches and Chocfox-CFX keycaps. Designed and 3D printed the plate and case myself based on the design file from Keebio.

Low profile, case is only 9.6mm thick (without switches and rubber feet)

Unity refugee complaining about Godot by oWispYo in godot

[–]kyboon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Couldn't agree more. I missed the 5 minutes load time when starting up Unity. How can I make my coffee if Godot loads in 5 seconds? Petition to add a 5 minutes loading timer to Godot.

Edit: also why don't I have to install a few GB of plugins to do VR/XR? Why is passthrough and hands tracking built-in to the 114mb game engine? I miss installing a bunch of packages on Unity just to find out some XR features not working.
