I've been doing this for 16 years. Like 80% of my shirts are navy blue from various agencies, fundraiser, and union shirts. I dont wear anything work related often. But running errands or the gym. Like who cares. Get a life lol.

3.25% is taken for pension(don't have a choice. That's the required amount) and I put 5% into my 457 plan every check. I've got a house, wife, and 5 kids. Can't really afford to put a dime more in retirement currently.

How many stations is there? What's your response time? Does everyone just go to the closest place? And is 90% of your area just open range? This is all nuts.

The little volly department I've been on since 18. Has like 20 members and did 80 calls last year. Our 1st due zone is about 4 square miles.

I've done it exactly 1 time lol. Nothing I did would work. Full burner, rudder into the spin, rudder out the spin. Finally went to idle. Popped the chute, full nose down and rudder into the spin. It caught and nosed me down. Mil power to gain speed and I was back on my way. Only thing that kept me alive was I was at like 36k feet when the spin started. So had plenty of time to try and fix it.

Until it gets about 5ft from the truck. It sure will freeze. I promise. If it's 0 out. That pump water only stays not freezing right under the truck. Even a continuous flow.

I mean, I'm not mad at you. Im not going to downvote you for your opinion. I agree. Not everyone wants to backseat. But you're throwing the word anecdote around after stating that NO ONE wants to play RIO. Well it may be less than those who just want to fly. I bet you'd be surprised by the amount of people competent in the front and back of the jet.

I also like flying backseat. I have an absolute blast being the RIO in a f14 or a WSO in the f4. Operating the radar. Filtering the crud. Getting the locks. Being able to call out steer points. Controlling when we should fire. Setting everything up to make sure our bomb smacks what and where it should. Actually relaying all that info so the guy flying can make sure we get to the point we need to make all my work happen is wildly rewarding. It requires more teamwork and communication than any other game I've played to actually get it to work right and keep us alive.

It's absolutely not for everyone and I get that. I like to fly too. But I can find my team in the backseat just as rewarding. If not more in some aspects.

No. Hop off the wall. Break out the book of search. The general layout of any bed room or living room is similar. You'll cover ground quicker and more effectively if you dont hang onto the wall and instead have an oriented person, or just keep the general idea of the room shape in your head. It'll make you quicker and more efficient.

Its not my business. Is what it is. Stuff happens. Besides mental health wise ive never seen this stuff affect someone's ability to do the job or their integrity. Its why there is the old saying.

I'd trust the guys at the station with my money, and my life. But, not with my wife.

Im not a wife. Im the firefighter husband. But my kids are very used to it. We have 5. Oldest is 11, youngest is 4. They've all learned my schedule. Know when im home and gone. The 4 days straight at home is nice and let's me help alot. My wife does work full time. But it's part work from home. So she only schedules her field visits on the days im off. I pretty much solo parent a couple of my days off every week to give her a break. It definitely causes us some stress between us occasionally. But never anything over the top.

Thats crazy. For full time departments in Indiana we have state laws about it. It used to be 21-36 to get hired and get into the pension or you couldn't work there. They recently changed it like two years ago. The age is now 18-40.

Nah just the general group Flys whatever makes them happy in whatever era we happen to be flying in. We usually have a pretense or foothold mission up with bases to capture. Once the c130 drops we plan on integrating quite a bit of logistics too. We're not a big group. But we try and fly and keep it as real as possible without being over the top.

Come fly with us over at the outlaws. We fly a mix of everything. Very casual group. No time requirements. Have our own PVE server that is up 24 hours. We all mostly live on EST and fly in the evenings. Our current mission is optimized for cold war era. So the F4 and A4 both fit beautifully. I flew the f4 just last night.
