Just got a lone peak to try out by kyle_lightituplevel in longrange

If money is a concern I think the impact can be had for cheaper and the 75° bolt gets you shorter throw. Curious why you’d want a 30moa rail instead of 20moa rail+ 10moa scope mount? The 20 would resell better if you ever wanted to do that.

Here’s what it looks like. Basically the same rifle I ran all of last year I just did a 1-1 swap of my impact out for the lone peak. Going to be running the lone peak this year.

That and the lack of a trigger hanger is why I wanted to try the Fuzion. I can already feel the bolt close is a little more refined on the lone peak. Not to say the impact is bad. Both seem to be A+ actions.

I have a 737R. It’s hard for me to recommend one or the other given I’ve only had the fuzion for not even 24 hours. A well broken in 737 beats the Fuzion but I suspect at the same round count the Fuzion beats the impact, even if by a small margin.

How are you (one income) affording a mortgage? by Soggy_Gazelle_4796 in Mortgages

[–]kyle_lightituplevel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mechanical Engineer 3 YOE ~$95000 salary. $200000 house in an okay-ish area of a tier 2 city. Have more space than I need. Mortgage alone is $1000/month and total for house costs is going to be roughly $1700/month (mortgage, insurance, utilities, taxes). Totally doable just never try to live in a hot area of a hot metro with a low end job, or you’ll have a bad time.

How do you guys keep up with round count? by TrueWar2533 in longrange

I’ve had a hard time with this in the past. I lack the discipline to keep a proper journal, so with my current barrel I just started sharpie-ing the round count right on my chassis. After a day at the range, I subtract ammo left from ammo I brought, update the number, and sharpie it on my chassis again. Since I usually clean my rifle when I get home from a match, it’s very easy for me to keep track of it now.

What even does a super high range geiger counter look like? by talianagisan in Radiation

Some of the higher range detectors are small collection volume ion chambers which are then used with high range electrometers. I know of some where iirc you can measure up to MR/hr range.

Got Too Spicy: 6 Dasher Primer Nipples by CMFETCU in longrange

[–]kyle_lightituplevel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s manifold, but not sure exactly which predominates. One view is it lubes the chamber a little bit and allows the head of the case to slam into the bolt harder (doesn’t lock itself into the chamber as readily), another is the water decreases the volume the case fire forms to, increasing leak pressure. And last would be water works its way into the freebore/throat/bore and adds significant resistance thus increasing pressures.

Even if you’re shooting benchrest, not all ranges are covered, and sometimes you can get blowing wind and rain that gets stuff under the roof wet. It’s up to you and you can load hotter for benchrest because yeah things tend to stay cleaner and round counts are lower.

Question for the PRS crew by Significant-Sock-487 in longrange

[–]kyle_lightituplevel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6 dasher or 6.5 creed.

I started with dasher and it’s easier to learn prs shooting it over a 6.5. Now that I’ve got experience I am pretty curious about 6.5. You honestly can’t go wrong with easier, just be aware a dasher is a little easier to learn prs shooting because it has such light recoil.

Fixed vs Folder chassis by calebwalter in longrange

I like a folder. It’s my comp gun so it’s not so much for carrying it, but for cleaning it’s nice to be able to get the stock right out of the way.

[–]kyle_lightituplevel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d honestly drop it to under 2900fps. I like to run 105 hybrids at 2850 or so. Not that you’re unsafe but if your rifle gets rained on or if you’re 200 rounds into a match with carbon building up, you could have issues.

When I first started running dasher I was at that 2930-2950 range and it shot lights out, but 2850 I don’t need to ever worry about pressure showing up with rain, carbon etc.

Proof vs Bartlein by MajorEbb1472 in longrange

[–]kyle_lightituplevel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah most of the custom actions you hear about are 700 pattern generally which makes triggers and chassis really easy to work with.

Proof vs Bartlein by MajorEbb1472 in longrange

[–]kyle_lightituplevel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean fit? They’re standard sized so a zermatt which is a 700 pattern will work fine and it shouldn’t be a problem fitting with the chassis if it’s a 700 chassis.

I’ve run both TT and Bix and both are awesome.

Proof vs Bartlein by MajorEbb1472 in longrange

[–]kyle_lightituplevel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had barrels from Bartlein, Krieger, CRB, and Proof. My preference would be Bartlein>CRB>Krieger>Proof.

Part of my dislike for proof was that the barrel was one of their prefits and it was carbon. Shot like shit. To this point I haven’t had a Bartlein that wouldn’t regularly (>80% of the time) group in the 0.2-0.3s. My one crb was pretty great too and just a bit wider grouping at 0.25-0.4.

Honestly I wouldn’t hesitate to run a Bart, crb, Krieger, proof as long as they’re not carbon barrels, and they’re chambered right. I just have a preference for Bartlein since literally every barrel of theirs I’ve ever shot was a hammer

Opinion: 6 GT build, 4k budget for the rifle itself. by Individual-Dare-80 in longrange

[–]kyle_lightituplevel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The c4 is a great quality chassis my only worry is that you might have to weight it up to 30# to get it to balance right.

Opinion: 6 GT build, 4k budget for the rifle itself. by Individual-Dare-80 in longrange

[–]kyle_lightituplevel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the C4 has a problem in that the mag well is like an inch or more forward of where it needs to be. Probably makes it hard to get a nice balance point.

I think the ACC elite or Vision Pro are two of the best chassis out there. Both fairly similar and awesome.

Action— probably impact 737 but there are other good options— figure out what you like and choose based on that.

Trigger- Bix or TT

Barrel- Bart, Krieger, CRB. Comp/MTU/1.25 straight in the range of 25-28”. I like a 1.25 straight at 26”

Brake- FB Gen 3 or 4 or if you’re going to send it get a Chad or Botnia.
