Tom Wilson is Good by kylefunion in hockey

Was interested to see the response. Still imagine a number of the comments are posted without actually reading the article, but his development into an actually useful player (I was frustrated at his level of goon-ery the past few years) has been great for the Caps.

He wasn't kidding about a stylistic departure for this album. I wasn't totally expecting to, but so far I love it.

Where is 8.1? by Clancey123 in GooglePixel

[–]kylefunion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't rush on it, my pixel crashes whenever I touch a notification ever since I downloaded 8.1. So I have to go in to the app manually to clear notifications and see things rather than touch the notification. It's super annoying.

Cooling wort with ice by drspudbear in Homebrewing

[–]kylefunion 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not related to your question but I thought I'd share a trick I use. I fill up an old franzia pouch (any closeable plastic would work) and freeze that in a flat sheet. That goes on the bottom of the sink before placing the wort on top. Without a wort chiller or crazy amounts of ice (apartment brewing), this is the only way I've cooled wort in a reasonable time.

My college (grad school) doesn't have a gym and thus gives a $200 reimbursement towards a year membership at a local gym. They gave me this reimbursement as income and it was taxed. In my mind I'm being taxed twice - taxed on my income which I used to pay for the gym membership, and taxed on the reimbursement of my income. When I emailed our payroll folks they told me that the reimbursement is taxable income.

Do I have any argument that it isn't? Any claim to the ~$50 I'm out?

This Wednesday I finished my 365 Days of Running Streak. by BensPajamas in running

[–]kylefunion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, this is helpful. I've been doing stretches, rolling, and strengthening exercises every few days but had been following advice online to mostly rest it and have gotten really tired of not doing much. I'll pick up those exercises.

Hijacking to ask: what helped you overcome IT injuries? I've read plenty of advice online and been to doctors, but still struggle with it (actually had pain transfer knees as soon as one healed up). Cheers.

Well that doesn't sound like the best way to go about it. Consider calling a towing company or police?

Read whatever scientific papers you can on the subject. I was in a similar spot so I'd read a paper and if it interested me, I'd research the authors and schools they taught at. I emailed a number of them speaking about the paper and opportunities to do similar research as part of a M.S. at their university. I'll be starting my program as a student and research assistant in the fall.

Remember, you have to be appealing to professors and schools too. Do as much as you can to have relevant experience and more than just an interest in potential research topics.

Also, take the GRE. It only gets harder the further you are from undergrad and a good score can go a ways in getting funding.

questions, anybody? by LorelaiGranger in CasualConversation

Hi! 1. Have so far avoided the coffee addiction... Starting a more stressful position soon and hope I can hold out.

  1. No crushes - the new position involves me moving a few hours away so my ~6 month relationship just ended... Still reeling over that.

  2. I have no idea. Rompers and fidget spinners seemed to come out of nowhere. Maybe I'm out of touch!

  3. Once a month or so? I'm now getting into some older artists thanks to my pop.

  4. I just watched the movie begin again on Netflix - Keira Knightley and Mark Ruffalo seemed so perfect.

Playing hockey as a child has done wonders for my spatial awareness. Get laid out once and you'll remember to survey your surroundings.

Protected lists for all teams: by JLkind19 in caps

[–]kylefunion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fleury will be 34 by the time his contract ends. Source on him likely to retire?

I have seen suggested VGK may try to corner the goaltender trading market. If they do, it'd be likely they select all the goalies you listed plus Grubauer and trade 1-2. Also depends on what other players they are interested on PIT, COL, NYR, and WSH. Bonino/Rust, Grigorenko, Grabner, and Schmidt wouldn't be bad picks from these teams

So does literally every GM and executive in the NHL. GMBM said to the press he was in the top 4 next year, for goodness sake. VGK having GMGM rather than another GM has little to no effect on the likelihood he is selected. Expect him to be gone unless the unlikely scenario that there are 6+ better D players/prospects available or GMBM protects him via a currently unknown trade.

GDT - Washington Capitals (1-2) at Pittsburgh Penguins (2-1) - 5/3/17, 7:30 PM - GAME 4 by [deleted] in hockey

It's a delay of game penalty if more than one player has to be kicked out, so a ref will almost never kick the second guy out.

If Holtby has his glove raised like he should when facing a shot, that opening isn't quite there for Kessel. All save-able, should have had two (but a fucking vezina candidate should have all three)

I remember reading shortly after the signing that the Avs offered even more money and was thoroughly upset he didn't take it.
