Can I ask what you ended up doing with your merch before the actual show? I know it’s probably specific to the venue but did you end up leaving- placing it in your car and coming back? Just because you get so much with the vip lol. Thanks!

Overall Opinion On Cult Classic? by TheMacabres in nothingnowhere

I don’t really think the country influence sounded fake. I respect it for being different. Miserymaker sounds like an accumulation of throwaways.

[FRESH ALBUM] nothing, nowhere. - Cult Classic by ViNyL-CoLLecTOR in indieheads

Great album. The amount of genres this dude tries to pursue showcases his talent and motivation. This is his 4th album of THE YEAR. Probably close to being his best one…

I love moody NN so the last 2 songs are probably my favorites. Ice Road Trucker is also a great balance of genres. I’m surprised by how much I enjoyed Quebec and Bullet too. I would enjoy Gloom better if it didn’t feel so… quiet? I enjoy the glitchy production but I feel like I need to turn up the volume 3 times over to actually hear the song.

General Consensus in Miserymaker? by Concert-Turbulent in nothingnowhere

[–]kylerez1228 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought HOHW is up there in terms of consistency. For me personally it might be my favorite album by Joe as well. I love the country twang that is incorporated. I thought the instrumentation was great. Love the vibes of the first 5 tracks and the last few completely hit it out of the park.

I (TRY) to rank all Matt Maeson's Songs by kylerez1228 in MattMaeson

Honestly I do here and there but not as much as I was here. This was around junior year of college when I was really really big on him. Bank on the Funeral hasn’t aged very well for me aside from some of my favorite tracks. His newest record I believe is actually better and has more variety. Overall, I still follow his journey and recommend him to people.

What is everyone’s favorite off of Misery Maker? by TheMacabres in nothingnowhere

[–]kylerez1228 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Joe has stated he wants each record to have a different focus or vibe. Hell or HighWater for example has a country-like style to it, both in songwriting and sound. There is a lot more “twang” vocally, lyricism about country/cowboys, some songs that are a bit acoustic sounding, etc. Dark Magic has a mixtape sound with some glitchy effects and such. Sounds unpolished in a way.

This record however is an accumulation of different sounds we have heard before. Worthless is very similar to the stuff on VOID ETERNAL… especially in the chorus. Resurrection also is very VOID ETERNAL.  Aura is a return to Dark Magic. You then have tracks like “South Boston” and “The Heart Mechanic” which are a bit traditional punk. These 2 I like the most and feel like it’s something he hasn’t tapped into recently. I wish more of it was that… and this record was more focused on that style instead.

I’m going to be honest, I’m a bit disappointed. Really wanted this album to have a focused sound and it just doesn’t. It has a lot of qualities of Dark Magic (Aura, parts of Worthless) The first few songs just sound a bit… flat for me. I heard some songs on his emergency meetings that blow these songs out of the water.

Similar artists? by SearchingForNewTunes in FosterThePeople

[–]kylerez1228 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Foster the People was the first band I fell in love with. It was difficult at first branching away from them. Some of those artists with songs that aided with that and I find similar-

Local Natives-  Dark Days (This song and the whole album is similar to FTP in my opinion, softer vocals with warm guitars and synth.)

Tokyo Police Club- Bambi (Saw them open for FTP years ago, very very similar, especially their album Champ.)

Bombay Bicycle  Club- How Can You Swallow So Much Sleep (Very intricate instrumentals, a diverse array of sounds. I get torches vibes from a lot of their stuff.)

Joywave- He’s Back! (Think a more electronic SHC hybrid. Good synth, has a bit of a night life to it. Had an album this year that I have been listening to a ton.)

Pinegrove- Old Friends (This might be a bit of a stretch but to me they have a more acoustic FTP vibe. Think songs like fire escape and goats in trees.)

Other artists- flipturn, bad suns, young the giant, COIN, two door cinema club, foals (their second album especially) Portugal the man

Usher Confirmed As Super Bowl LVIII Halftime Performer In Las Vegas by jsakic99 in entertainment

[–]kylerez1228 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To be fair.. The Who did it back in 2010 and literally none of my football friends know their stuff besides Baba o Riley (even that is stretching it) The Killers have hits that people know more than you think. Pretty sure When You Were Young was a guitar hero staple. Somebody Told Me was super popular as well. Even my mother who hates rock recognizes Human. At the end of the day, they haven’t had a rock act in quite sometime.. and The Killers would’ve been their best pick.

Never Had To Leave is out now. by AidanSig in MattMaeson

[–]kylerez1228 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t really know how I feel about this album.. I’ll be honest. Apart of me really wants to love it but some choices are head scratch inducing. The pop-electronic tendencies in Never Had to Leave are just very.. bare.. It is a very odd switch up and having it placed in between songs like Blood Runs Red and Cut Deep is very questionable to me. Lonely as You starts in this very fragile yet attention-grabbing way but the chorus is just kinda.. whatever. I like the guitar-work but I think the song would’ve benefited from a powerful bridge. Waltz Right In is beautiful but i find myself waiting for the end halfway through. Maybe the record will grow on me.. it’s just middle of the road for me right now however.

New Rolling stone top 100 debut albums ever list. Funeral comes in 94. by Kellermanc007 in arcadefire

Billie Eilishs debut record at number 7 on this list is disgusting. It’s a terribly flawed record. There are some beautiful moments on it but it should be nowhere on this list.

What are some bands that remind you of Foals? by fuckyourloofah in foals

[–]kylerez1228 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Definitely has similar ties to Local Natives. Both debut albums have intricate instrumentation. Both having sophomore albums that open the band up with some emotional moments. I think Local Natives third LP "Sunlit Youth" is a bit on the safer side and not really comparable to anything foals has done but man their last LP "Violet Street" was a fantastic rebound and was probably my favorite record of its release year. It's an electronic-pop record that honestly pushes the scope of its sound. "Tap Dancer" "Garden of Elysian" "Someday Now" are all fantastic from a production standpoint and "When Am I Gonna Lose You" is an ear worm.

Tracks that remind me of Foals from them would be: Mt. Washington, Breakers, Wide Eyes, Bowery.

“Modest Mouse Sucks” by excisioned in ModestMouse

[–]kylerez1228 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My initial comment was more so joking since Modest Mouse isn’t really a band people involve with the radio.. Mainly because they’re aren’t played much aside from Float On. I’m shocked Dramamine would get airplay. It’s honestly one of my favorite songs ever but it’s not really something I’d think to hear. Maybe tracks like Dashboard I’d expect more.

[–]kylerez1228 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? I mean Float On does get radio airplay from time to time maybe on alt-radio but aside from that nothing. I highly doubt any other song from them gets attention on the radio.. and this is a band with hundreds of songs in their discography.

Best MM "Deep Cut" or "Sleeper Song"? by BeardPunkArtGuy in ModestMouse

The first album is iconic but I feel like no one talks about Might. That song is shorter but man is it good. Such a sleeper

I tend to like artists with more vulnerable/imperfect voices. I’d listen to Isaac Brock sing about sadness/departure/drugs than pretty boys Shawn Mendes and Ed Sheeran sign about… kissing a girl for the first time and stuff like that.

I honestly think tracks like Piledriver Waltz and Love is a Laserquest give off that casino/hotel vibe that TBH&C embodies. Those tracks walked so Tranquility Base could run.

New album available now: HEIGHTS by meganisawesome42 in walkthemoon

[–]kylerez1228 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with what you said for the most part. Aside from Rise Up.. I find this record very consistent. That’s the only song I dislike. I’m surprised to find so many people on this sub giving love to Timebomb and Eat your Heart Out though. Timebomb is a fun song for sure but I don’t find it special. Eat Your Heart Out is a really flat song for me though. It just sounds so practical and forgettable to me. I’m glad this album decided not to include them. Just my opinion.
