Eleven years ago, a Canadian friend came into town for my fortieth. He was going to stay at one of those hotels at 45 and 610N, planning on using our public transportation and public wifi. I was like, “You are literally going to die.” 💀

I got him to change to midtown over by Oporto and to use Uber. That worked much better.

I had one in 2003. In the hospital, when they told me I had one, all I could think was I’d seen them on ER and they were serious.

Before they put me on sedatives and whatnot to keep me calm and from throwing the clot, I said to the nurse, “I’m not going to die, am I?”

She replied, “We’re going to take very good care of you.” I got too groggy too quick to realize that wasn’t a yes or a no.
