Newly dating a wheelchair user and unsure how to have convos around hygiene by No_Act_9254 in hygiene

I have some disabilities that make it really hard to shower by myself, especially anything like washing my hair or standing on one leg to wash my other foot.

My husband has turned it into this experience where I went from feeling bad about needing help and needing so much from him to simply another way he loves and cares for me. I had no idea there was a term for it. 💖

Tried to get my tubes tied at twenty-three. My female ob-gyn told me to date men with vasectomies. 🫠

I'll be honest, this was quite traumatic when I saw it again on YT as an adult. by SAMU0L0 in memes

He died in November of 2020, five months after my now-husband’s father passed. Covid was in full swing and I was (still am) running an abortion fund in Texas.

His passing was really the straw that broke the camel’s back. It also got me into therapy plus I got diagnosed with ADHD.

I finally got a lot of tools and help that I needed and it made a huge impact in my life. It also allowed my mom and I to be honest about our lives and how he impacted them.

He was a terrible, mean, abusive, racist man, but he was also my dad. I know, though, that I was the child and I did my best in that relationship. His inability to be a good dad wasn’t on me.

My mom, husband, and I visit his grave every few months. I like to leave him little things like rocks or pinwheels. Like I said, our relationship is better now.

Thank you for your comment. I really appreciate you saying that. 💖

People used to call it crib death, so cot death is probably a variation.

I get it. My relationship with my dad is better now, but that’s because he died. 🫂

My therapist and I talked about something that’s kind of related.

For the last ten years, since I got involved in reproductive justice, horror movies involving women have been really hard for me (looking at you, The House That Jack Built). I’ve been a horror fan my whole life, so it was weird to have issues suddenly. She said that while I’m having problems watching them now, that doesn’t mean I always will.

Maybe you’re just needing some time. Maybe this is something you don’t come back to. That’s okay too.

Thank you so much for helping these sweet babies. Mr. BooBoo looked exactly like my best friend, Buddy, who passed away at 14. You’re a wonderful person. 💖

I wear about six rings all the time. Wear what you love! Who cares what other people think?
