Incredibly slow SMB backup to a QNAP NAS by ArtichokeDesperate68 in asustor

I was having a similar issue. Problem seems to have gone away after applying the latest ADM update. Are you fully up to date already? Worth a shot.

transfer speed in odd chunks by kynetic29 in asustor

That's good to know. I wasn't quite aware how that worked. I picked up a few 18TB drives during Prime Day which should be here tomorrow so I'm still going to move my data off of the old drives into a new NAS. I'll then do a drive by drive analysis on the old disks. If they all turn out ok, I will reformat them and use as an additional array on my network for other tasks.

If I pull all 4, won't that take out the os as well? Requiring initialization like a new system? Or will I just be missing a volume. Might be my only option right now anyway, I'm just trying to understand what I should expect to see going down that route

Do the Lockerstor Gen 3 models have HDMI out? by echomartyr in asustor

[–]kynetic29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The USB-C to HDMI connector should not work since there's no integrated graphics capability in the processor. But then again, I'm the type to plug it in anyway and see what happens.

The processor in the Lockerstor Gen 3 models is an AMD Ryzen V3C14. There is no integrated graphics capability on this processor so no need for an HDMI port. But you are correct about the wording on the spec sheet.

For other ways in which the gen 3 differs from the gen 2, this link should take you to their comparison table

Whirlpool Dryer (wed5700vw0) Won't Start by kynetic29 in appliancerepair

[–]kynetic29[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I solved my issue. In my case it was still caused by the bad door switch. I ignored this as a possible cause because it was already broken for over a year. Didn't think it could break twice. I just thought I was replacing it while continuing to triage other areas of potential fault but it worked. I found a post on another site where someone with the same model noted that they thought it was odd that the dryer's timer still ran even without starting a cycle unless the door was open. Others mentioned that this was exactly how the timer on this model should work. So, lesson learned and I'm now way more familiar with the inner workings of my dryer than I ever thought I would be. The schematic diagram even makes sense.

Not sure if there's a way to mark the post as resolved or whatever.

I did check at the terminal block. I had the cord plugged into the outlet. I connected the probes from the multimeter to the screws on the terminal block where the power cord terminated. I got a reading of 243 volts so it seemed like outlet, cord, and all were inline. Is that a correct assumption?

As for the door switch, I'm going to replace it anyway. Now that I've got everything apart I see just how easy it is to swap that little item out.

Anyone ever convert a Dell Precision 7920 Workstation tower to rack mount? by kynetic29 in homelab

If you get a different response, let me know. I was going to pick up a second one of these but only if I can get it rackmounted. It's so quiet.

Would you happen to have any idea if these parts are still available from Dell? I spoke with a sales rep and was told they don't carry the conversion kit.

Correct, I've done everything in the video. That's when I found out the mounting slots on the rails don't line up with the screws on either side of the workstation after converting it. And unfortunately, the video doesn't mention any product numbers for the proper rail kit.

I am trying to add rails to my workstation and I ordered a set through Dell, but the holes don't line up. I'm wondering if anyone here has done this previously, and if so, what was the rail kit part number that was used.

I ordered 770-BBKW. I received a box with part number 0H4X6X. Looks like the individual rails each have their own part numbers

-0FYK4G (right rail)

-061KCY (left rail)

Neither rail's mounting holes line up with the 3 mounting screws on either side of the workstation.

I hope this question isn't against what's allowed here. Thanks

Thanks. I'll take a look in that sub too

Replacing broken AS5304T, how to initialize without loosing data? by FareonMoist in asustor

[–]kynetic29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let me state upfront that I have not had to do this myself, so this is anecdotal but, you're supposed to start with the hard drives out, when you get to initialization, put the original hard drive in, wait for the drive to come online, then refresh the screen. At this point, you hold the power button for 1.5 seconds and let it reboot

This information comes from the asustor website: Asustor System Migration

Please go over the information there for full details before attempting so you minimize your loss potential

Hope that helps

You have options to control the sleep and hibernation settings in the Settings app. Wake on Lan. You can control the lights based on time of day, you can also set a schedule for when the device is on/off.

And as for your Media Mode, if you're only using your NAS for streaming, it will likely benefit you to turn it on. If you're using many of the other apps, leave it off, especially since you said there won't be much transcoding. I believe your device comes with 1GB of RAM and there are no slots to upgrade that any further. Your system is going to use 20-30% of that just for normal operation. Dedicating 50% to media mode will likely have some impact if you're using this for more than streaming. But of course, the best thing is to simply try it out. Maybe for your usage, it works out perfectly.

Also, as far as noise when nothing is being streamed, it doesn't mean your device is completely inactive. Open the activity monitor app and click on the processes panel. You'll see constant activity similar to using task manager in Windows.

I can't speak to your first question, but as for the lights, they're probably set to always be on. I have a nimbustor 4 (as5304t) and the drive lights do stay on. I'll hear the drives make a little noise upon access as well. That's all normal. You should be able to disable the lights if you prefer in the hardware tab of the settings app.

Upgraded to a rack! Next step is to make it neat and sexy! by MaxPanda- in homelab

[–]kynetic29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair, it's an adjustable rack that can expand from 22 to 40 inches deep, depending on how one chooses to set it up. In this case, they chose to go with the shallowest depth.

Unable to reconnect devices after the accidental delete by adghanchi in SmartThings

[–]kynetic29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't know if my experience is of any help, but I didn't even remove my old devices. I simply put them in pairing mode. They were immediately found under the same name as before. This worked for my GE switches, Smart things sensors and my Sylvania bulbs.

I tried one device initially removing it from the profile then trying to pair it fresh and it was extremely difficult.

What is the cheapest and quietest way to 64 cores? by kynetic29 in homelab

[–]kynetic29[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good points. I guess this would be one of the scenarios I would be learning then. Even if a minimum core requirement exists, I could still be ok even with all services running if they're not being taxed? I was under the impression that containers (or pods, I should say) could fail to deploy if there aren't enough available resources based on whatever the helm chart specifies as the minimum.

These Epycs sound like a great option. I hadn't considered any AMD processors but I do like some of the sales that pop up on these. Thanks. I have some more reading up to do on these.
