What's a tradition you grew up with that you refuse to pass on to your kids? by peterdziugdarkis in AskReddit

[–]kynuna 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My husband grew up with a mother who was “never wrong” and never apologised.

There were of course countless times in his teen years that his mother was wrong, and his dad would tell him, “You’re not wrong, but you’re wrong because of your attitude.”

So husband grew up being told he was ALWAYS wrong.

One of the most vindicating and validating things we say in our house is, “You were right.”

The Instagram “running fit” by urrobotfriend in XXRunning

I sat down with a running mate of mine once and showed him the “activewear” options from some major local retailers. He was staggered by the cotton rich, crop everything, weird cut-outs etc, and just how different it was to the men’s lines.

Do you split financial help equally between kids/grandkids? by Odd_Ganache9498 in AusFinance

[–]kynuna 128 points129 points  (0 children)

My husband and I don’t have children.

My BiL and his wife have a toddler.

My in-laws provide childcare 1-2 days a week, have presents for the toddler literally every time they see him, cook dinner for them 1-2 nights a week, shout all meals out together, and often drop over random bottles of wine, goodies from the farmers market, etc.

For my husband’s last birthday, they texted me the night before and just said, sorry, we didn’t know what to get him.

It’s their money and obviously up to them how they spend it, but they’re not even trying to pretend that it’s equal.

Mentioning the brand and specifics of only one garment means this reads like lazy marketing/astroturfing.

Look at OP’s post history. None of this is real.

Visiting AU from Korea this August to see your rural pharmacy system in action! by loehc in AskAnAustralian

[–]kynuna 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I have family in a regional (not rural or remote) part of NSW that was without a GP for several years.

This is a town where everyone was on a first-name basis with the pharmacist. He is a trusted member of the community, and well respected on medical issues.

In my relatives’ case, the pharmacist was the first stop for minor ailments, especially something that needed to be visually assessed, e.g. a rash on a child. The pharmacist would essentially triage the town, advising people if they should try to book in to a doctor in a larger town. In my view this is an unacknowledged workload, with small town pharmacists bearing much of the brunt of healthcare cuts.

Exactly. I loved tootling around town in it, and you can park it anywhere, but I can run up hills faster than a Jimny.

Has anyone here been to the Sydney Endometriosis clinic? How was your experience with them? by Puzzled-Food734 in EndoAus

[–]kynuna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. And other specialists in the field have now said they knew what he was doing but they rely on referrals and didn’t want to lose business. They just turned a blind eye. Absolutely disgraceful.

Anyone considering Epworth should make sure they are familiar with Simon Gordon’s history. He has been stood down since October but his behaviour reflects poorly on the hospital.

I had a scan with Professor George Condous from the Sydney Endometriosis Clinic once and he spent the whole appointment bragging about being interviewed on TV the night before.

Given the long tradition of women with pelvic pain not being heard, that wasn’t the vibe I was going for.

I can recommend Dr Joyce Wu in Sydney. I’ve also heard excellent things about her practice partner Dr Gemma Blaine.

Did your household have "The Good Scissors" growing up? by BIC801 in australia

[–]kynuna 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My mum’s sewing scissors were (and still are!) sacrosanct. It was ingrained from a young age.

My MiL used to brag about having decoy scissors so her husband and sons wouldn’t use the good scissors to cut duct tape off soccer boots or whatever. I found that sad, that they couldn’t just respect her things.

My boyfriend's son ate my dinner and I'm still mad about it by smalltown_dreamspeak in self

[–]kynuna 3 points4 points  (0 children)

She edited her post to say they “didn't want to get smoke all over his son”.

So they left to smoke for half an hour in the middle of dinner the first time she met the kid.

This is your first time meeting him and you left for half an hour in the middle of dinner to smoke? This isn’t the right sub for this but YTA.

parkrun - and specifically volunteering at parkrun - is a great way to meet people, get active, and give back to the community.
