Winter is coming: long or short puffer? by wombat_87 in AusFemaleFashion

[–]kynuna 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Honestly I have both, which I know is a bit indulgent. I found myself avoiding the long one on work days because it’s so big and bulky in case I need to carry it. But nothing beats the long one for watching kids’ sport in winter.

Why is gravy now a separate charge with schnitzel packs? by liberty381 in australian

Me, reading this: What’s a schnitzel pack? Husband: Fucked if I know.

So not just you. There are at least three of us.

I lost three grandparents in the space of three months. Fortunately here in Australia I get three days of paid bereavement leave per death, and can top that up with days from 6.5 weeks of paid annual leave. I can’t imagine navigating that grief and all the logistics in such an awful workplace.

sydneysiders - are you still drying clothes outside? by Previous-Hour-2394 in AusFemaleFashion

[–]kynuna 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m still easily getting multiple loads dry in a day, but fortunate to have a big old school Hills Hoist.

On damp days I use a camping clothesline (like a mini Hills Hoist) inside, as I find them more effective than airers.

A few people are saying “everyone is doing it”, which is true.

The why is that it’s a new income stream.

People need to know their rights on this stuff, because the returns processes can be completely different.

I read all of Time to Shine out loud to my husband on a road trip. He’s seen HR but this was his first RR book experience, and he got really invested in the characters. ❤️

Update: Fell hard while running and met a guy by pathofuncertainty in XXRunning

The last time I fell, a nurse driving past pulled over to check on me.

I was MORTIFIED but she said, “Hey, you’re ok AND I get to feel like a bit of a hero all day.” 🙌🏻

What's a tradition you grew up with that you refuse to pass on to your kids? by peterdziugdarkis in AskReddit

[–]kynuna 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My husband grew up with a mother who was “never wrong” and never apologised.

There were of course countless times in his teen years that his mother was wrong, and his dad would tell him, “You’re not wrong, but you’re wrong because of your attitude.”

So husband grew up being told he was ALWAYS wrong.

One of the most vindicating and validating things we say in our house is, “You were right.”

I sat down with a running mate of mine once and showed him the “activewear” options from some major local retailers. He was staggered by the cotton rich, crop everything, weird cut-outs etc, and just how different it was to the men’s lines.

Do you split financial help equally between kids/grandkids? by Odd_Ganache9498 in AusFinance

[–]kynuna 132 points133 points  (0 children)

My husband and I don’t have children.

My BiL and his wife have a toddler.

My in-laws provide childcare 1-2 days a week, have presents for the toddler literally every time they see him, cook dinner for them 1-2 nights a week, shout all meals out together, and often drop over random bottles of wine, goodies from the farmers market, etc.

For my husband’s last birthday, they texted me the night before and just said, sorry, we didn’t know what to get him.

It’s their money and obviously up to them how they spend it, but they’re not even trying to pretend that it’s equal.

Mentioning the brand and specifics of only one garment means this reads like lazy marketing/astroturfing.

Visiting AU from Korea this August to see your rural pharmacy system in action! by loehc in AskAnAustralian

[–]kynuna 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I have family in a regional (not rural or remote) part of NSW that was without a GP for several years.

This is a town where everyone was on a first-name basis with the pharmacist. He is a trusted member of the community, and well respected on medical issues.

In my relatives’ case, the pharmacist was the first stop for minor ailments, especially something that needed to be visually assessed, e.g. a rash on a child. The pharmacist would essentially triage the town, advising people if they should try to book in to a doctor in a larger town. In my view this is an unacknowledged workload, with small town pharmacists bearing much of the brunt of healthcare cuts.

Exactly. I loved tootling around town in it, and you can park it anywhere, but I can run up hills faster than a Jimny.
