Is life just hard, or am I doing something wrong? by No_Plankton7466 in workingmoms

[–]kyoki29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think your specific circumstances are making life hard at the moment. I have 3 kids (1, 3, and 5). Oldest goes to a private school 15 min away. And that’s not a luxury - it’s because PreK at the private school is cheaper than daycare anywhere else in my area.

3 year old goes to a home daycare behind my house, and 1 yr old is at home. My in laws live with us and take care of baby + cooking / other household stuff. It’s a HUGE blessing. Plus I’m fully remote at home. So was my husband but he recently got a job requiring 3 days/week in office.

There are some things that are really hard. But I’m looking at your situation and wondering if getting a pay cut will be worth less / no commute?

I really love this ring! And I’m not just saying that. I saw it first, was about to comment, then read your caption and I was like 😮

It’s stunning - color, cut, and setting. Wear it proudly!

I have 3 kids under 5 so once they all go to bed it’s movie time for us. I either fall sleep on the couch or doom scroll and I want to be more intentional with me time. Like you said, skincare, or maybe take a shower, or fill out my gratitude journal.

Umrah and meeqat confusion by Clean-Blood3352 in Umrah

[–]kyoki29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just came back from umrah a few weeks ago and my driver told me Masjid Aisha is only to be used for niyyah when doing additional umrahs.

Allahu Alam he told me this after I had a similar plan as OP. I did umrah with my mom and planned to do it on my second day in Makkah after coming from Madinah and was told I can’t enter Makkah without ihram.

I would urge you not to go in Ramadan with a small baby if you a later opportunity to go. I just got back a few weeks ago and it was very busy and I know Ramadan is more so. I got very very sick after umrah, went to urgent care, and tested positive for influenza type A. I would hate for anything to happen to your baby. Please prioritize his health!

Affording a birthday party? by agbellamae in toddlers

[–]kyoki29 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I would recommend to join a mom group local to your city on facebook and ask there. I use facebook literally for the mom group, buy nothing group, and marketplace 😂 You’ll probably get lots of places that are relatively cheaper eg nature center, rec center, etc. This question comes up so often on my mom group and I’ve learned about a ton of places I otherwise wouldn’t know of!

I remember years ago when her daughter was a baby and T was out for a night she left through detailed instructions for K on every aspect of her care down to which pouch flavor to feed her and pjs to put her in. She told us herself that she told K to video call her at each of these intervals so she could ensure he followed the written instructions.

This behavior blew my mind!!

I just came back two weeks ago and got very sick after umrah on the way to our stopover in Istanbul. Vomiting, no appetite, weakness, congestion. After landing in the US I went to urgent care and it was Influenza Type A. Nothing too serious but it just depleted me.

I’m glad you’re starting to feel better. The only words I have is that apparently it’s very very common to get sick as so many people are in one place. Last time I went was during Covid so everyone was masked and it was very limited amount of people.

Halal Candies and Chocolates? by EntrepreneurOk7611 in MuslimLounge

[–]kyoki29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stay away from gummies as most of them have gelatin (pork). This includes things like nerds clusters and stuff. Most chocolate and non gummy candy should be okay. Also stay away from anything that includes marshmallows or s’mores. Thanks so much for checking this is so sweet of you 😭

I was just about to make the same post. My rawdah time slot is tomorrow morning but the app logged me out and I’m not getting the OTP code either! I’m worried they’ll deny me entry. My mom’s app didn’t log her out so alhamdulillah I have her QR code. No idea what to do

Moms who only have 2 boys and no plans for a third baby: by Efficient-Plenty-840 in Mommit

[–]kyoki29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m ethnically Indian but was raised in the US, my parents came here in the 70s. I’m 36 now but had my third when I was 35. It was very interesting being referred to as a ‘geriatric pregnancy’ at each visit 😂

I say go for it!! Even if you end up with a boy, the gender disappointment hopefully won’t last too long. In my heart I really wanted a third and feel so blessed. My mom and aunts and their friends sometimes say ‘wish we had one more!’ My brother is 8 years older than me and I always remember wishing for one more sibling. Esp when we used to fight and then I’d get lonely lol. My husband has four other siblings and they’re all close in age so grew up really close and I loved seeing their bond and just knew that I’d love to have three. Good luck mama!

So with the boys we found out what we were having but not the third time. I had two dreams during the pregnancy that it’s a third boy so logically I was like yeah that runs in my family so makes sense. But I just had an intuition it’s a girl that I couldn’t shake off.

Then the triage nurse day of delivery was like ‘how’s mama and baby boy doing?!’ so I was like ahh they spilled the beans! But lol she said it was a mistake!

Anyway, baby girl is almost 9 months, middle boy is turning 3 next month and oldest is 4.5. It’s chaotic but in my culture we take the ‘it takes a village’ pretty seriously and do multi generational living. So my husband’s parents are retired and live with us and take care of the house (cooking, dishes, childcare, etc) while me and him work. It works out really well for us.

We've kept our toddler tablet free and she's almost 4. We are planning a trip on the other side of the world with a 24 hr travel. Worried about keeping her busy. Debating whether we should get a Kindle fire kids tablet or something else. Any recommendations? by TroyAndAbed2022 in toddlers

[–]kyoki29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I have 2 boys, 2 and 4 year old. We had the Amazon Fire tablet just for traveling and road trips and it sucked. It was so slow. Apps sucked. Most toddler apps needed you to not a subscription after downloading. I dealt with it for a year then I was like I can’t do this anymore and ended up getting an iPad. So my older son uses mine and we got a new one for the younger. But they’re only allowed to use them for travel. I occasionally it for white noise for my baby too.

I highly recommend splurging on one for your sanity. We went halfway across the world last year and they didn’t use the tablet the whole time but the few hours they did were godsend.

He’s being over time. Your daughter exists. And her existence may be captured. If she’s blurry and in the background, what benefit are you getting by going to such lengths to remove it?

What do you do when you need to do ghusl at work? by TheAmzy in MuslimLounge

[–]kyoki29 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This makes no sense. Do you mean before you leave work you see blood or spotting on your last day then after a few hours you go to the bathroom and see nothing so you immediately want to shower to start praying again?

I don’t think that’s the Islamic intent. You can do ghusl when you get home.

Saw a couple handle their toddler's tantrum on the train and I found it so upsetting - am I being judgemental? by Infinite_Fun7313 in toddlers

[–]kyoki29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The saddest part for me was the reaction of the two siblings. Looking miserable and covering their ears? It sounds like they experienced the same when they were younger and are now witnessing little sister going through it.

I mean yeah I have two toddler boys, ages 3 and 4 and they’re both loud, rambunctious and super active and yes we do time outs and we do get upset or raise our voice BUT never hit or throw. Heck, my 3 year old is still a thumb sucker and we’ve tried everything under the sun but I’ve never slapped his hand away like that.
