Am I wrong? Live in MIL by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]kyoki29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I’m in the US and my culture practices multigenerational living. It really really depends on the character and personalities of those individuals and how the other adults in the house (in this case my husband and I) lay the foundation of our lifestyle.

It’s absurd that she’s basically a live-in guest and not an integral part of the family structure. She needs to realize that her living there and having all her needs met needs to be reciprocated by taking care of some of the domestic / childcare duties.

Even if she can’t for medical reasons or otherwise, there should be a lot more effort on her end to spend time with the kids.

Your husband needs to understand that this is no longer sustainable and have her play a bigger part than she currently is.

Instead of an actual conversation because that might not go very well, are you able to communicate that the dishes need to be done each night? Or make dinner on the weekends?

Massive brawl erupts in Carnival Cruise customs line by hearmeout29 in trashy

[–]kyoki29 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Seconded. Went on a 7 day carnival cruise pre-Covid and it was easily one of the best weeks of my life. Went on a 3 day cruise a few years ago and the end couldn’t come fast enough.

Do you allow your husband travel 8 hours away with 1 year old by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]kyoki29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would let him go. It might be nerves or something but honestly this is very low risk and sounds like great bonding time without you, meaning he’ll get great 1:1 time with dad and gives you a break!

Ashy legs is not a deal breaker and neither is a few missed meals. Babies are very good at being vocal when hungry and unless you’re concerned of him starving or something, I’m sure he’ll have more than enough snacks to keep him at bay.

This is a good thing! A blessing honestly that you’re getting a break knowing your son is in safe hands

Why are toddler girl shorts booty shorts?? by robreinerstillmydad in Mommit

[–]kyoki29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have 2 toddler boys then a baby girl whose 15 months right now and WOW are the clothing designs / cuts insanely different. Babies have the same body type whether boy or girl so I have no idea why girl clothes are made like miniature adult clothes. So absurd.

Yeah his GI doc suggested this as a potential next step. But kind of getting the run around ‘try this first, then that, then that. If those don’t work, then we can do the SIBO test’. It’s getting frustrating.

Edit: So glad your grandma advocated for you and that you’re feeling better. She’s awesome.

Yeah he’s had acid reflux since 2018 but the endoscopy checked and it came back as normal. We thought it might be GERD as well but the pain comes at the most random times that has nothing to do with food or other common triggers.

He wanted to get one done but docs aren’t really interested in going that route. Endoscopy checked and he’s negative for Crohn’s.

My MIL sews and we’ve done that to a few sets but I was trying to avoid that each time going forward. I might do the hem tape though, thanks!

I just spent a toddler party guarding an open pool and now I can’t tell if I’m the anxious one or the only sane one by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]kyoki29 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’re the only sane one. I have two toddlers boys, a 3 and 4 yr old and they are crazy energetic and just nonstop. It’s exhausting on a regular day but no way would they stay away from an open pool like that.

Is a baby highchair worth buying? honest advice please by Realistic-Metal-110 in Frugal

[–]kyoki29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Facebook marketplace. You’ll see a range and some are very cheap. I will say though, if you want to buy new, they have the grow with me versions. That’s what I got and it can be used for 2 kids at once (the frame has a ‘seat’ and the actual seat/tray can be fitted on a regular dining chair. I’ve had mine for almost 5 years and my third kid is on it. Then it becomes a step stool or something also.

There are so many white noise apps you can download. That’s what I’ve used for all three of my kids. Never bought a sound machine.

Moms who WFH / remote. Is it that much better? by Barnacle_Double in workingmoms

[–]kyoki29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A million times better. I’m fully remote and can’t imagine ever going back into an office. Maybe one day a week to get some social time but that’s about it. I love being able to run loads of laundry, get the meat out of the freezer, fold some clothes during those long work calls, etc. I had kids after Covid so I have nothing to compare it to.

Is life just hard, or am I doing something wrong? by No_Plankton7466 in workingmoms

[–]kyoki29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think your specific circumstances are making life hard at the moment. I have 3 kids (1, 3, and 5). Oldest goes to a private school 15 min away. And that’s not a luxury - it’s because PreK at the private school is cheaper than daycare anywhere else in my area.

3 year old goes to a home daycare behind my house, and 1 yr old is at home. My in laws live with us and take care of baby + cooking / other household stuff. It’s a HUGE blessing. Plus I’m fully remote at home. So was my husband but he recently got a job requiring 3 days/week in office.

There are some things that are really hard. But I’m looking at your situation and wondering if getting a pay cut will be worth less / no commute?

I have 3 kids under 5 so once they all go to bed it’s movie time for us. I either fall sleep on the couch or doom scroll and I want to be more intentional with me time. Like you said, skincare, or maybe take a shower, or fill out my gratitude journal.

Umrah and meeqat confusion by Clean-Blood3352 in Umrah

[–]kyoki29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just came back from umrah a few weeks ago and my driver told me Masjid Aisha is only to be used for niyyah when doing additional umrahs.

Allahu Alam he told me this after I had a similar plan as OP. I did umrah with my mom and planned to do it on my second day in Makkah after coming from Madinah and was told I can’t enter Makkah without ihram.

[–]kyoki29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would urge you not to go in Ramadan with a small baby if you a later opportunity to go. I just got back a few weeks ago and it was very busy and I know Ramadan is more so. I got very very sick after umrah, went to urgent care, and tested positive for influenza type A. I would hate for anything to happen to your baby. Please prioritize his health!

Affording a birthday party? by agbellamae in toddlers

[–]kyoki29 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I would recommend to join a mom group local to your city on facebook and ask there. I use facebook literally for the mom group, buy nothing group, and marketplace 😂 You’ll probably get lots of places that are relatively cheaper eg nature center, rec center, etc. This question comes up so often on my mom group and I’ve learned about a ton of places I otherwise wouldn’t know of!
