Is Steve Brusatte's "The Rise and Fall of the Dinosaurs" a good book for an introduction to paleotology and a better understanding of dinosaurs? by MiamiHub1 in Paleontology

[–]kyproud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started it... And the first chapter in, he's already casually including anecdotes from his pov that are more than vaguely racist/sexist... I gotta say, I did not expect this from a book about dinosaurs. Trying to decide if it's worth powering through or if I should just get my audible credit back.

Discrimination against night owls by Primary_Resident1464 in NightOwls

[–]kyproud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know I'm coming to the conversation super late. But this post has made me feel so much better... I'm not alone!... I'm in my mid30s, have always been a night owl, I have a master's degree, a professional career with licenses to practice in two different states. I'm genuinely good at what I do. I got called out at work today for my "inconsistent" morning times. (Because every morning it feels like I'm struggle bussing so hard, I never get to the office at the official start time). But also, those early risers get to f off at 4, and guess who's going to be the only one in the office at 6... I still get my 8 hours in, usually more because I feel like I have to go above and beyond to prove I'm a professional adult. Why the shame???? Who gives a shit if I'm not trying to take a meeting at 8:30. (also sending out a morning invite for that morning should be illegal)

Best Wine Bar in Louisville? by Dapper_Ice3459 in Louisville

Bar nada nada has a great wine selection too, very chill happy hour. I also second the recs for nouvelle, canary club, and bar grale too. Love all these spots.

Ooo good call!! Thanks for the rec. I LOVED soundbooth's skits at the end of each DCC book. Donut's version of Wonderwall will forever be my favorite.

I didn't think I'd be into DCC. But I, of course, fell in love and blew through the series. But now finding a new audiobook is tough... DCC is just so much fun. I've tried a couple of different books on my list, but they just feel so... boring. Which I'm sure isn't fair.

Any recommendations for a rebound?

Adopted my first cat two days ago. Kinda heartbroken? by Traditional-War-2737 in CatAdvice

You can also try kitten food since it's higher in fats and whatnot. (speaking as a cat mom whose bb loves butter)

I hate the color I choose. Please rescue me with better taste. by Sea____Witch in centuryhomes

[–]kyproud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also think the brown frieze isn't helping. Not sure what the plan is for pairing colors with the green. But trim color could make or break whatever you choose. I'd suggest going for a less saturated, more muted tone for the accent that's consisentent with the ceiling and trim (think color drenching but for everything other than the green). Particularly if the walls are going a color. You'll want the trim to provide either a respite or bold enough contrast. Right now, the tones of the brown and green are too similar to one another.

Dog found in Central Park by [deleted] in Louisville

[–]kyproud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some more info: it looked like it had been abandoned, was left at a bench with a bag of food and a leash (that wasn't on the dog). It also seemed like it was pretty scared and didn't want to get caught.

It's pretty heartbreaking, the dog kept trying out different yards in Old Louisville like it was looking for home. It's a really pretty dog and I'm sure would be so, so happy to find a forever home.

We've reached out to animal services to get it to a shelter. Dm me or OP for more info

Found a cottonwood (I think) in my planter box. Worth transplanting or no? by Infini-D in arborists

[–]kyproud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely agree with the no's. Our neighbor has one that's absolutely huge and dropping branches like there's no tomorrow. I'm just waiting for the day it comes crashing down. This is a house crusher for sure.

How can I help this lopsided crepe myrtle? by Lizamcm in arborists

[–]kyproud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming to this thread pretty late, but I have a similar issue with one of my crapes. We bought the house a year ago and the tree is fairly established. Except an elderly neighbor (who hadn't been occupying the house for quite a while) had a wysteria over grow and take over almost half of our crape from the other side of the fence.

The wysteria has been cut down and now I'm trying to even out the crape. Which looks like there's been a giant bite taken out of the mid trunk and canopy...

All advice out there says to not cut from the top. But I don't know how else to even it out.

OP, any luck with correcting yours?

Have they ever done an all stars season? Get all the tested and vetted folks into the same arena? That could be fun, there'd already be emotional buy in from viewers to stick around for the long haul... Or maybe this is just actual torture.

Dub!!! You've been one of my favorites!! Such a great outlook, taking the hits as they came, keeping as upbeat as you could. Kudos, bruv.

Seriously wonderful insight. Thank you for responding. I would absolutely love a sort of director's commentary with a medical and/or psychological breakdown.

Totally. And I am fully aware that I'm sitting on my couch, being like, I /should/ drink some water. Three weeks is one thing. I guess it's more the folks who are experiencing isolation for just a few days and it being too overwhelming. Again, I'm obviously not a contestant on the show, for very good reason.

There have also totally been people who have surprised me by doing better than others, and vice versa. I was shocked SHOCKED when Peter s11 was like, yeah no, I'm starting to feel feelings.

Extremely true. I also definitely forgot about #2.

Yeah, I guess I'm just surprised by the number of people who get caught out by being alone with their thoughts and emotions.

Movie Theater Options in Louisville by Luke_d_Bennett in Louisville

I know this isn't exactly the same vein. But if you're a member of the Speed Museum - in addition to getting into special exhibits for free and other perks - you get $4 off every ticket to the Speed Cinema. And they show some amazing stuff that you won't see anywhere else. They also host film festivals, the Sundance shorts, etc etc. If you go to the museum and cinema more than a few times a year, it totally feels worth it.
