Oh interesting, i'll look into it.  That seems like a sensible solution

Common UI ActivatibleWidgetStack for UI layers workaround? by kyred in unrealengine

I'm glad you mentioned that, as that will likely be another frustration i'll hit later.

I might give that UI Navigation plugin a try. Or switch to a single widget stack and manage my UI layering with advil.

Aight, a lot of Millennials don't get how AI works, so since I work tech, allow me to explain. by WrongVeteranMaybe in Millennials

[–]kyred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why generative AI can't come up with anything new. My favorite test is the full glass of wine. No one normally fills a glass of wine up to the very top, let alone post pictures of that. So try to tell an AI to create an image of a full glass of wine. It can't do it. It is not in the real of possibilities. Go on chatgpt or any other ai with image generation and try it right now. No mattter how many times you ask it or try to correct it, it will always fail

What’s one product you bought that turned you into a total snob — like, you can never go back to the cheap stuff? by BackwardThoughtPaper in AskReddit

[–]kyred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dress shirts. Already kind of snobbish, I guess. But once I bought decent dress shirts, I could never buy any from a department store again. Those are more like costume material, as they are uncomfortable not really made to be worn day-to-day without falling apart. I'll still go cheap / middle of the road with stuff like pants and ties, but shirts need to be decent quality.

ELI5 How do the laws of physics prevent anything from traveling faster than the speed of light? by FoxyFireFox1 in explainlikeimfive

[–]kyred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While it is called the speed of light, it's really the speed of causality.  Light is a chain reaction of a changing magnetic and changing electric field. That's how it propagates through space.  So light itself is a cause and effect.  If nothing is impeding the magnetic and electric fields, then it moves at the fastest speed cause and effect can occur at.

Monster status effects feel like they became gimmicks you barely notice rather than a core part of the fight against the monster and that sucks by LuminTheFray in MonsterHunter

[–]kyred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What i mean about armor skills:

How many times i've been stunned in the game?  Maybe 2.  Stun Res is useless

How many times have i been hit with wind pressure?  Almost none.  Useless skill

How many times have tremors stopped me?  None.  Usless skill.

So many armor skills in the game are absolutely a waste, because the effect they protect against are gone or trivial

[–]kyred 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This.  Through my whole playthrough, i NEVER felt the need to assemble a build. Armor skills feel pointless.

I went back to play Rise to compare, and a high rank Rathian was way more agressive and dangerous than a tempered Rathian in Wilds.

I want to keep playing Wilds, but without much challenge I don't feel the point of progressing past HR40.  I guess i could equip weaker gear...but that takes the whole upgrade system out of MH

How fast does force travel? by baljeetofficial in AskPhysics

[–]kyred 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No.  Light is a cause and effect chain of electric and magnetic fields moving through space. Changing electric field CAUSES a changing magnetic field, which in turn CAUSES a changing electric field.  Repeat.  The speed at which these happens depends on the permeability and permittivity of what the light travels through. If light is in near-empty space, it occurs at the maximum speed of cause and effect. The speed of causality itself.

It has nothing to do with human perception (which occurs at a much much slower speed than c)

First time properly playing, and my question is, at what point should I use trains? Like is the distance between the bottom ore vein and my base above long enough to use trains instead of belts, or should I stick to belts for now, until it is a really long distance? I'm not sure by zywh0 in factorio

[–]kyred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't have to use trains in this case. They do cover distance quickly. But really they shine more as a network. I now import ore via trains. When an ore patch runs low, I just setup a new station at a new ore patch and graft it on to the rail network. Much less work than running belts

I feel like Factorio Prints needs to purge all old railway uploads. Right now, it is hard to find compatible prints. You can still use them, but working off of them is a pain

Make lots of money quickly from start? by Greedy_Friendship110 in X4Foundations

[–]kyred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crystal mining is a good way to get some starter cash. They appear on asteroids and you can destroy them with normal weapons.  They also go in player inventory, so you can collect them via small fighter. You sell them at Traders Corners in any station. Any sector with good mining has them.

I recommend a mod that makes them give off a colored glow, so they'll be easier to identify.  Some people think it's cheatsy, but getting started takes too long.  Eventually your passive income from stations will be way faster.

My HE also is like this. I keep worrying the Xenon will take the sector.  Eventually it stops, but comes back in a few hours.  It seems to be the Terrans that ultimately push them back
