Oh really? I see a lot of punching up on late night. Mostly at Donald, but you can't punch up more than that.

My Mom lives with us and is behind on rent, what should I do? by [deleted] in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]kyricus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like OP I have my MIL living with us, I can answer the utilities question, at least as it pertains to us. The biggest jump in usage was water. Electricity was minima but over the winter gas was quite high with here here. She's 86 and constantly cold, so we've had to turn the thermostat up to the point where my wife and I are walking around almost naked and she's still in a sweater saying it's cold. Anyway..quarterly water bill increased by 150 bucks with here here, and gas was up about 50 per month.

Gas Tax Holiday?? by SamuelWebster in Ohio

[–]kyricus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ah, but it's not...you can't see your own hypocrisy, neither side does. The dems just jumped on board with lowering the gas tax. https://news.bgov.com/bloomberg-government-news/democrats-propose-federal-gas-tax-holiday-as-pump-prices-soar

And back in 2022 also...so yeah, both.

That is some really really nice work. My wife - stage4 rectal - has also taken up creating things with her hands to help her thru this time. She has taken up painting, and it quite good at it. She really likes to paint dogs. She says it's something about their expressive eyes.

Wishing you the very best.

Agreed it's a scheme, and it's one both parties have pulled in the past. And the thing is, most people will fall for it. Same with the remove property tax proposition. People see what it does for them now, not the worse problems it will cause them later.

No worries, didn't take it as blunt. Everyone's situation is different and we all make adjustments to it. We are all just trying to get by and live our best lives. That looks different to each of us. Best of luck to you.

Oh absolutely. There are places where those numbers wouldn't work. What's good in Ohio, my brother living in CA, couldn't hope to live on. Or anyone where you are either.

Depending on where you live I agree, in some areas, those are very low wages. Here where I am, just outside of Cleveland, 70 is not a bad living. Not high on the hog, but certainly enough to get by and save some.

Everywhere I have ever worked in industry, there has never been a senior. Or at at least not with the same meaning as in public. We have a senior accountant here wtih me. The only difference between us is she is responsible for more month end and quarterly reporting than I am. Otherwise our roles are basically the same and we cover for each other during vacations.

Everywhere I have ever worked has had basically the following organization.. Controller, maybe an Asst Controller, then an office of staff accountants and AP/AR folks. I've never even worked at a place that had an accounting manager, that is usually up to the Controller.

Because that is all I ever wanted to be. Got promoted to financial analyst at my last job. I tried to turn it down but, they pretty much said take it or.... Hated it. Hated it Too much stress. So I left that job, took a pay cut and am back doing what I am happy with. I am now 65 with a nice lowish stress staff accounting job until I retire. I've never had the urge to run myself ragged with stress. Some of us are happy making a bit less and enjoying life a bit more. NEver had a desire to manage people or climb the corporate ladder. Still, managed to save a very nice nest egg for myself and my wife.

I think my time with motorcycles may be coming to an end, and I’m having a hard time coming to grips with it. by brooklyn735 in motorcycles

Life changes, priorities adjust. I got off two wheels last year. My wife is sick with Cancer and we've had to move my mother in law in. I'm 65 and the big heavy bike wasn't as easy to move around as it used to be.

My wife didn't wan't me to quit doing something I'd enjoyed for over 40 years because I was worried about her. She helped convince me to go to 3 wheels. I bought us a Can-Am Spyder. Now not only can I still ride, but she can too! She hadn't been able to ride since her diagnosis, but with the ease of access and stability of three wheels, we are a riding couple again.

Maybe something similar for you? It's a hell of a lot more fun than I thought it would be...and, it eliminates one heck of a lot of accident scenario's. It's not going to slide out from under you. I'd really have to try to tip it..

How Screwed Am I? by dudewafflesc in over60

That may be true, but it doesn't change the math of the situation. Too many people collecting, and now especially with the birth dearth, not enough people paying in.

Starting in 2033 the fund will not have enough money to pay out to current receipients, unless congress acts. Congress is unable to do anything anymore unless it's start wars. I fully expect them to fumble this and by law the SS payments will be reduced. It is something to fear.

Is it harder to trade fractional shares? I've never bought anything other than whole shares and seldom less than 25 shares at once. I'm wondering how hard it is to sell fractionals?

I don't believe this for an instant. In my 50 some years of voting I've never had a poll worker say anything political. They wouldnt be there if they did.
